Some back story

It is quite a video: A teenage girl, a kaffiyeh over her denim jacket, screaming in Arabic, repeatedly punches, slaps and kicks a heavily armed Israeli army officer, who faces her impassively, absorbing some blows, evading others, but never hitting back.

Finally, he and a fellow soldier turn and walk away — only to spur parallel debates that, more than a week later, are roiling both Israeli and Palestinian society and engaging the conflict’s partisans around the globe.

...

The girl in the video, Ahed Tamimi, 16, is not new to this kind of encounter.

Two years ago she was videotaped biting the hand of another Israeli soldier who was trying to arrest her brother. And in 2012, when she was 11, she was photographed raising her fist and yelling at another Israeli soldier — an action that earned her an award from Turkey.

That her family appears to encourage the children’s risky confrontations with soldiers offends some Palestinians and enrages many Israelis.

But Ms. Tamimi’s face has already launched a thousand memes, and the Tamimis of Nabi Saleh and their frequent videos have drawn international attention to their tiny village and its long-running disputes with a nearby Israeli settlement, Halamish, that Nabi Saleh residents say has stolen their land and water.

The latest incident, filmed in the family’s backyard, occurred within hours after a cousin of Ms. Tamimi’s was shot in the face with a rubber bullet, and it was streamed live on Facebook on Dec. 15. It first gained attention on Monday, when a clip was broadcast on Israeli television.

Right-wing activists demanded the teenager’s arrest. Israel’s education minister, Naftali Bennet, said Ms. Tamimi and the other women who scuffled with the soldiers alongside her — her mother and an older cousin — “should finish their lives in prison.”

By Tuesday morning, Ms. Tamimi was in custody; the other two were arrested later. A hearing on her case is set for Sunday.

It is an impossible situation.

Not really.

Isn't the E.U., and especially Germany, welcoming to any and all refugees from the Middle East with open arms?

Why not just move all the Palestinians there...they'd get all those freebees and problem solved...although it might be colder during the winter than they are currently used to. :coffeepap:

Why not divide Israel according to the 1947 agreement.

Give East juresalem to Palestine

Why? Simply because I prefer to support the Jewish cause and let them have ALL the land promised to them by their diety...at least as long as they can hold it on their own.

I also support their goal of a Religious State, homeland for all Jews everywhere.

The Palestinians are related to the people of Jordan and Arabian Penninsula, plenty of room for them there and a welcoming religion too.

Israel is hardly in a position of weakness. Why is it not possible for Palestine to be given Eastern juresalem as its capital.

See above.

Judea (Israel) belongs to the Jews. They don't have to share.

If the Palestinians want to fight for it? More power to them...without our financial or political support.

Ahed Tamimi does indeed have a history with the soldiers of the Israeli occupation. She bit a soldier while the Israeli military broke into her home to arrest her brother. Now she is on trial for lashing out by slapping and kicking two Israeli soldiers in her family's back yard several hours after Israeli soldiers had shot and killed her cousin. So yes resistance and restraint are themes in the Occupied Territories but I am not sure who is exercising the restraint with the least enthusiasm.

Watch the video for yourselves:

Notice what happens about 21 seconds into the video. I'm not sure whether the Israeli soldier hit her or missed but his left arm moves quickly to the Palestinian girl's face and her head turns sharply to her left.

Cheers.

Well, isn't that a dumb thing to say.

Do you really want Israel to be left to "hold it on their own"?
Ya know, that land wasn't empty when it was given to the Jews in 1948. The Palestinians ought to be recognized as having a claim. If might makes right then the moral position doesn't matter and that needs to be acknowledged if we're being honest with ourselves.

In that case we should all leave this continent and recognize the native Indians as having a claim to all of this continent.
But that would entail that the native Indians recognize the "ancients's" claim.

Because that proposal was rejected by Arabs, who in turn became violent and attacked Israel resulting in Israel making rightful gains. If anything the Palestinians should make more concessions. I'd pretty much be fine with giving nearly all the West Bank in its entirety to Israel and Gaza being the sole Palestinian territory with some areas next to Jordan as well.

Really? You read that from what I said? You think it's either all one or all the other? People can't get along?

Your post is bullcrap. There's no reason Native Americans can't co-exist with everyone else, and no reason Israelis and Palesinians can't co-exist. Why do you think the stronger needs to eliminate the weaker? Why can't there be room for each?

Ask the Palestinians ... never heard the Israelis calling "Death to the Palestinians!".
Maybe Palestinians don't want to coexist with anyone. Every thought about that?
