Aaron Hernandez Advanced CTE

I wonder how many old timers who played back in the day, did things that could be blamed on this. Has anyone ever explored that?

A lot of the oLd timers are a mess. Read the Jim Kick story to get an idea of how bad it gets.

I doubt CTE had anything to do with Hernandez killing people. He was a thug long before his football days.

BUT there is NO doubt CTE is now a big problem for the NFL, and they better address that problem soon or the lawsuits will start to come more often and faster that they are now. And in turn become very costly.

No one should get money just because Aaron Hernandez was a ghetto-thug. That's ridiculous.

I hate the Patriots as much as everyone does, but no one should have to pay out just because Aaron Hernandez was a murderer by his thug upbringing.

I was being part sarcastic when I said I hoped the Hernandez family wins 50 million and then have the family of his murdered victim sue and take it all.

Where was the concern of the Hernandez family when he was making more in one year than some people make in a lifetime? There was no concern or if there was it was hidden in all their laughter of making millions.

One does not go into a sport like football and not know that they can be seriously injured at anytime. Just the compilations of having your body crushed over and over is going to come back and visit them in their old age.

Look at rodeo bull riders. Watch a former bull rider walk and you can see the crippling effect of that sport.

But nobody holds a gun to their head. If they went through the NFL right now and made players aware they could possibly suffer CTE and most likely will have some have some physical effect from playing the game. How many does one think would say, " I am outta here".

Funny how it's just the NFL. $$$ not any care of the players is what's driving that

No surprise here.

Lawyer says Aaron Hernandez had advanced stages of CTE

...hence, why I no longer watch the games.

Move the game to more of a rugby style, where you have to tackle people (below the shoulders), not just hit them and knock them down. That means wrapping them up and putting them down. Rugby players don't wear the hard helmets that NFL players (some wear the soft headgear) do and the prevalence of CTE is far less among rugby players. Getting rid of pads and helmets would probably do more to reduce CTE than anything else, since it forces people to be more conscious of how they are hitting.

The Red Flag in Hernandez's case IMO, isn't that he was a murderer. He was a thug and a gang member before his football career. The Red Flag for me is that he was only 27 YO when he died. And he hadn't played football in what? 2-3 years. That means all the CTE damage was done before he was even 24 years old?

It's troubling that it started, in his case so young, and there was severe damage by the time he was only in his mid-20's. They can't detect CTE until after the person is dead. so obviously most of the studies were on older men, but with Hernandez it showed SEVERE CTE can and does start very early. Again, troubling.

Geee zus.

He didnt accidentally die at 27. He didnt die from massive brain trauma. He hung himself in prison after losing his last real shot at ever seeing the world as a free person. He hung himself knowing his fiance and daughter would always see him behind bars. He died knowing his only companion for the rest of his life was going to a sweaty guy with prison tats. He died knowing he ****ed up what should have been a brilliant career and wealthy and prosperous life. Theres at least 100 reasons why he killed himself which has nothing to do with CTE or a TBI.

Or Nick Buoniconti, brilliant guy, was a top shelf lawyer, but he is a mess now.

It happens very young. We all know the "dumb jock" in high school stereotype. Why do you think it originated?

He hung himself after beating a double murder rap while appealing the first conviction.

Can you be even more wrong in this thread? It's great.

How long before all this information about the damage associated with football hits critical mass and something is actually done about it?

First step is smart parents guide their kids away from playing football. Second step is people do what I did: quit watching it.

Aaaaaand....his life sentence was going to change...how?

Lol...you don't know?
So your theory is that he was convicted of the weapons charge, but acquitted on 2 additional murder charges, that he was confident in his appeal that his life sentence would be overturned, and THAT is why he hung himself.

:lamo

Vance hasn't a clue. My God!! I was going to correct his reply to me because he completely misread what I wrote.

But why bother.

I acknowledge my error on this trial-convicted of the weapons charge...acquitted on 2 ADDITIONAL murder charges. But he was still convicted for murder and sentenced to life in prison. He wasnt going anywhere but back to his 4x8

Pending an appeal which had a reasonable chance of succeeding. People do not usually commit suicide right after winning a double murder trial.

"I am yet to examine the brain of professional football player who does not have CTE or other forms of brain damage," he said. "And we have always known for centuries that if you suffer forceful and/or repetitive blows to your head in whatever human activity, you will suffer brain damage."

Riiiiight. THATS why he killed himself. Because he had a reasonable chance of winning. No...wait...wait...how did you put it? He killed himself during the appeal so his fiance could get paid. Dies under appeal...he's innocent, the Patriots pay her his contract. Thats what you said...right?

Opinions change as more information is obtained. You should try doing that sometime.

I do...when warranted. There is no indication of diminished capacity in any of Aaron Hernandez's behaviors. There is no indicator that he lacked the ability to distinguish or choose right from wrong. There is no period of dramatic change, uncontrolled/uncontrollable violent mood swings. His defense never attempt to explain away his actions and behaviors as a result of CTE or possible brain damage...they simply denied everything.

This is the problem with 'causes'. People abandon all reason and jump to the 'cause'. Its what you have done.

CTE results in poor impulse control. You'd know this if you bothered to read even one article about it.

There is no evidence Hernandez struggled with impulse control. That’s just you trying to shoehorn a case into a cause.

lol...no trouble at all. Everyone just takes a shot at someone who spills a drink on them. It's perfectly normal behavior.
