A teacher wore blackface to school and rapped on Halloween. He's now been suspended

Oddly enough, the Prime Minister of Canada was a teacher when he did that. Still kept his job.

He kept his PM job, too. Look at the racism you people tolerate.

The people firing his probably haven't checked his political status.

Probably would be illegal if they did. But you brought it up, you said he'd get a pass if he was leftist.

You saying the teacher deserved to lose his job?
Careful, your snark is backing you into a corner your words can't get you out of.

Buncha racists in your country.

It is fascinating with all of the smug leftists about, that not a one is actually smart enough to know that how something is perceived in no way dictates whether something is racist or not. If something was not intended to be racist, then it cannot be racist. Hell, intent is at the very core of racism. This should not even need to be said, with all the experts on everything in the universe around here.

The one unforgivable sin in this country these days is to do ANYTHING that might offend a left winger.

Blackface has always been demeaning, belittling and offensive towards people of color, why would it be OK in 2019?

No, it hasn't always been offensive. In many cases it was used to express an ironic or satirical take on racism.

Yes, by it’s very nature it’s offensive. It allowed a society to routinely and historically imagine African Americans as not fully human. It served to rationalize violence and Jim Crow segregation. It was white performers in blackface playing characters that perpetuated negative stereotypes about African Americans including being lazy, ignorant, superstitious, hypersexual, criminal or cowardly.

The teacher should have been apprised of my CNN race watch thread, which defines what's considered racism. Currently, 'blackface' and the 'n word' are among the worst racial protocol breaches. It's easy to avoid them. CNN will let us know down the road, maybe in a year or two, what the next 'big thing' is regarding race protocol.

... oh yeah? Go for it. Show us the 'many' cases.

Perhaps the teacher needs a lesson from this guy.

He never wore black face. How can we ever be sure he was a rapper?

Did you vote for your racist PM?

Had nothing to do with his stupidity years ago. I didn't vote Liberal for the first time in forever because the twerp bought a pipeline and tried to influence an Attorney-General's decision. Neither is something a liberal PM should do.
How about you? Did you vote for your racist spoiled-brat President? Yeah, you voted for that whiny cry-baby, didn't you.

... imagine trying to dress up like Eminem for Halloween, and coming to the conclusion that all you need to do to be like him, is to stand up. The real Slim Shady never stands up in the video, because deep inside, we can all be Eminems. We can all be the real Slim Shadies, and be sure that those other Slim Shadies are just imitating.

If a black guy white-faced to be Slim Shady, it would be funny and harmless.

For a guy who knows more about black people than the average person, you sometimes miss the community jokes.

I'm going to Ghana next month. Looking forward the people, food and music.

I don't do music. But the idea of a white-face Slim Shady makes me laugh.

I hope the Cameroon government can get their act together. They were once on pace with Ghana to be a nice destination.

True. But that was released in 2008 before the height of organized social media shaming and "Cancel Culture." Do you think that movie could be released today? I highly doubt it.
Social media barely existed in 2008. There were maybe 1.3 billiok regular users. The internet in 2016 has 3 billion users. Why is it that things not being discussed in your sphere is indicative of nobody else speaking of a subject before the invention of something else? I think what we are seeing is a case where you're now realizing that black people weren't talking to you about what they thought was racist, and now the internet allows you to see a lot more of their opinions whether you like it or not.

Thankfully white christians aren't the arbiters of what is and what is not racist and anti semitic anymore

Perhaps instead of shooting a pre-loaded response from the hip based on the motivations you have imputed to me, you could address what I actually wrote, Hatuey, or ask for clarification. I was pointing out that the film was released back in 2008 before the height of organized social media shaming and "Cancel Culture." How many organized or spontaneous social media campaigns aimed at ending people's careers do you recall from back in 2008, or attacking the production of a film? I do not recall very many compared to more recent years. I simply do not think many studios would be willing to take a risk on a film like Tropic Thunder. If you disagree, and you think that studios would be willing to take such a risk, please tell me why.

Okay, so we have established that the only way for you to acknowledge discussion of a topic is through a platform that didn't exist in 2008 the way it does today either in size or definition.

Nobody was talking about the Vietnam war on the internet in 1976. That's the real injustice here. How did anyone ever think it was wrong when everyone around me was in favor of it?

The lesson here is that we should step outside more often.
