A (belated) comment on trump's election

I didn't vote for Trump and I don't like him.

Try again.

Who are you hoping to vote for to undo the work of Trump and why do you want to undo the work he's done?

:lamo

So they invented something to tag onto Trump voters. Even though it doesn't actually pertain to a majority of Trump voters and only focuses on race as a singular aspect...
Vox is so damn pathetic man and it just had to link to WaPo as well.. nice non-partisan pick for the article by the way.. (noted sarcasm spike)
I mean the repeated use of the same tired lies about things Trump has said. Should've been a dead giveaway for anyone who even remotely thought that this article would be credible.

It's not bad enough to be reminded how poor the post is doing these days. With them begging for money nearly every time I stop by and I already ****ing subscribed.
Alright calamity. Show me the coloration in that this "study" that shows is proof for the previous claim.

Because all their doing is trying to invent a demographic of Trump voter that most likely doesn't exist in such a recognizable number.

Have you ever been to one of Trump's rallies?

What issue is it that I don't understand?

What is the problem you perceive that rises with less inequality?

The problem rises with MORE inequality. There are many, but one is the loss of democracy.

What is your prescription for eliminating the perceived "harm" of the rich on the government?

Progressive economics, returning to less inequality with higher tax rates on the rich, lower debt, and spending priorities changed to benefit the people. Here's part of that:

Bernie's Plutocracy Prevention Act

Muslim is not a "race," it is a term referring to someone who believes in Islam. There are white Muslims, as Malcolm X found when he went on Hajj.

Immigration involves nationality, i.e. someone from one nation seeking to move to and become a member of another nation.

Try again. :coffeepap:

That's why I think "xenophobia" or "intolerance" are better descriptors of the phenomenon.

Why is creating division so common among Democrats?

In my life, when confronted by the realization that the wealth of others was greater than mine, my thought was not how do I take it away from them.

My thought was how do I become more like them so I can have a nice car, home, clothes, etc.

Them getting more did not take away from me. Me getting more did not take away from them.

Why does envy, anger and hate of others infect EVERYTHING that Democrats think, say and do?

So what, exactly, are democrats plotting to deprive you of?

Perhaps you could 'educate" yourself first................ on how little "race" is a issue with white voters.

If truth be told, many members of the (current) majority ethnicity DO think a lot about ethnicity matters -- either consciously or unconsciously.

Of course, it depends a lot on where they live. (What state? What city? What neighborhood?)

In fact, many people who proudly announce to the world that they are color blind are actually not.

It would be better if everyone cooled it. The less said about ethnic matters, the better.

We all have our views, and no one will ever change those views through preaching.

This comment isn't about all trump voters, but the large portion to whom trump's appeal was largely about his opposition to other groups - non-white, illegal immigrants, Muslims, etc.

That 'average American white voter' belongs to multiple groups, and could pick which group mattered in the election.

One group is the economic division, where the ultra wealthy, the plutocrats are the 'other group' they're at odds with, who are taking the money and power in the country out of the hands of the American people, where three people have as much wealth as half the country's citizens.

Another group they could felt mattered was 'white people' versus other groups - the above mentioned non-whites, refugees, Muslims, etc.

The election was largely about which group each party could make voters care about. If Democrats succeeded in getting those voters to care about the groups based on wealth, they won. If trump could get groups to care about the groups based on race (and willing to base votes on hate and superiority), he won.

Bernie would have been a great leader for getting voters to base votes on the wealth issues. Hillary, painted, with reasons, as someone so close to Wall Street, was not. And so too many of those voters voted more on trump's race issues than Democrats' wealth issues. And so they got what they wanted, trump, and his support of plutocracy, but also his ongoing hostility to other racial groups.

This remains a challenge for 2020.

Democrats have to make those voters, if they want their votes, vote on the wealth issues. Not only are those voters largely unchanged about these things this election, many of them don't even understand that there are these wealth issues. They only see the fear issues, about immigrants, Muslims, etc. It's up to Democrats to do better educating this time. I don't think Biden would be the best, though he'd be better than Hillary on it.

Hillary was a bum candidate. She was lazy and had a very inept campaign strategy. Wealth issues, sure Hillary won those voters who make less than 50,000. Trump won those between 50,000-200,000, call them the middle class. Hillary then won those voters making over 200,000. So Hillary attracted the poor and the very rich. Trump those in the middle. The working class more or less.

Race was also interesting. Comparing Hillary of 2016 to Obama of 2012.
Whites 37% voted for Hillary, 39% for Obama. Obama was more attractive to whites than Hillary was.
Blacks 89% voted for Hillary, 93% for Obama. Trump did better among blacks than Romney.
Hispanics 66% voted for Hillary, 71% for Obama. One finds that Obama did roughly 5 points better than Hillary among almost all voting blocks.

Democratic base, 89% voted for Hillary 92% for Obama. Trump received 8% of the Democratic base to 6% for Romney. Independents, 42% voted for Hillary, 48% for Obama. Union households, 51% for Hillary, 58% for Obama. Education whereas Obama won the High School and less over over Romney, Trump won this group over Hillary. Romney won the college grad group over Obama, Hillary won that group over Trump.

Hillary didn't inspire her base. Democrats made up 38% of the turnout vote when Obama ran in 2012, Democrats made up 36% in 2016. Republicans increased their share from 32% in 2012 to 33% in 2016.

If the Democratic base had matched the total percentage of the electorate they made up with the turnout, Hillary would have won. The Democrats let a 6 point advantage in their party's base made up of the total electorate shrink to 3 points due to lack of turnout. Lack of inspiration is what I call it.

Not according to Trump. His primary campaign strategy for energizing his base is to make racial attacks.

Trump’s Midterm Closing Argument: Pure Racial Fear

So, based on Trump's actions, he believes his base is largely composed of racists. But you seem to think you know Trump's base base better than Trump himself. I find that laughable.

Survey after survey has borne out that white anxiety was a predominant characteristic of the Trump voter. He's practically a white supremacist himself.

Considering Trump's main campaign strategy to energize his base is to make racist attacks, Trump apparently agrees with you.

I find it hilarious that people seem to think they know Trump's base better than Trump himself.

Without putting too fine a point on this, the rich are the people that make it possible for the rest of us to enjoy life.

Penalize the rich using your recommendations and they will either stop the actions that we enjoy or just leave for greener pastures doing what they do elsewhere to benefit others.

If the rich are not around, the population of North America is a bunch of tribal nomads hunting buffalo.

So what, exactly, are democrats plotting to deprive you of?

I have no idea what I included in my post to make you ask that question.

Why did you ask it?

I have a feeling that you suffer from a warped thought process, but I can't know this.

When I write that "hard work is the path to a better life", why do you read "Democrats are plotting to take something from me"?

"...my thought was not how to take it away from them". So, if you didn't hint at that's what Democrats are planning to do, as many conservatives believe that their precious guns/freedom/whatever are in jeopardy, then what were you suggesting? And what is this nonsense about envy?

I stopped reading your absurd cult dogma there.

Billionaires take more from the poor - praiseworthy. Middle class citizen says to not let them take all the wealth - right-wing cultists say that's "envy".

Wow what a stunning response. I never knew 'Muslim' wasn't a race. I look forward to my next lesson. Thanks. Oh, and by the way, 'race' was not mentioned in the post I replied to. Try again (I sense a demotion coming on).

What was mentioned in the post you replied to?

They basically have won, and are just gradually cementing it. The only thing to change that will be a big change like a Bernie win, and even that wouldn't do it without a Democratic super majority in the Senate.

Find out for yourself. I'm not your internet forum guide.

I did. The post you replied to simply said: "Citation please."

Those two words were in response to total racist bigoted claims vomited from one of the more racists posters on this site.

When challenged, you claimed: "'race' was not mentioned in the post I replied to. Try again (I sense a demotion coming on)."

Really?

"Poor/low income whites have been trained to hate Blacks, Muslims, Mexicans, gays, abortion, Democrats and Jewish liberals, not greedy rich white conservatives."

Race was most certainly part of the post you commented on.

So why did you lie about that?
