Happy GOP Presidency folks; here is your GOP curse ........... I told folks Trump would tank the economy & no one listened .........

Dow Jones Falling: Is a Curse on GOP Presidents to Blame? | Money

Theories abound as to why the stock market seems to be falling apart — with the Dow Jones industrial average plunging another 1,000 points on Thursday and slipping into an official “correction.”

Some think this is a sign investors are scared of rising interest rates and inflation. Others believe the market simply got ahead of itself last year. And still others blame a slew of new-fangled leveraged investment funds that let investors bet on or against market volatility.

But history suggests there could be a simpler explanation.

Call it the GOP president’s curse.

“Every Republican president since Teddy Roosevelt has experienced a recession in his first two years in office,
” says Sam Stovall, chief investment strategist for the research firm CFRA.

Yeah, I don’t know if I would classify a “curse” as a “simpler explanation”. :)

I think the simpler explanation is Republican economic ideas just don't work.

When, exactly, did the market become a result of Trump policy and not Obama's, as you were cheering people for saying it was Obama's market, not Trump's, while it was climbing?

LOL ............. I wish I could TRIPLE 'like' that post :peace

I know the answer - last week, of course.

Why are people so dumb as to believe that Presidents have that much influence on the market??

Yeah, I don’t know if I would classify a “curse” as a “simpler explanation”. :)

Except presidents simply don't have that much power. I mean, certainly policies matter...But that's way too strong of a signal. I'd be more inclined to think that we elect Republicans when the economy is bullish and Democrats when it's bearish. Then the curse is more of a reversion to the mean.

the DJIA grew over 31% during Trump's first year in office, which had nothing to do with Obama. If HRC would have been elected in 2016 the markets IMO would not have realized that type of over heated growth that we have seen with Trump in office. Trump himself has claimed responsibility for the markets gains since his election; he claimed it, he owns it. There was absolutely NO reason whatsoever for the gains realized within the markets since Trump's election. When I stated, "I told folks Trump would tank the economy & no one listened" that is to say I predicted if Trump won the 2016 election the economy would TANK on his watch. The greed & stupidity of traders, in response to Trump's election & the expected easing of regulations by Trump, is what has caused the bubble; it is popping, slowly.
Enjoy your pop .........

Wallstreet is leveling itself while Mainstreet is gearing up for a massive rise.

Where is the economy tanking?!?

influence? what do you consider influence?

people that are in the markets trading have certainly been influenced by Trump's election, by the regulations that Trump has done away with, and they are influenced by the potential of what Trump has stated he 'will' do while in office. Is that influence misplaced? IMO it most certainly is.

Ahhh yes.... a curse. That's why the Red Sox and Cubs couldn't win too remember. It wasn't because they had ****ty teams that couldn't win, no it was a curse. If Republicans are so cursed maybe we should stop letting them run the country.

It was President Reagan who broke the 20-year curse of presidents dying in office when elected in a year ending in zero ...

GOP curse = GOP was formed in Saint Paul, MN in 1854. First GOP POTUS = elected 1860. American Civil War presided over by first GOP POTUS. Hell of a record right there ....... I mean, Hell of a curse, right there .............

Yeah, it's all just a big coincidence that. Bad luck that has continued for over 100 years straight. Here's an idea. let's try and flip things around. In 2020 let's elect a Democrat, but instead of replacing them after 4 or 8 years let's just keep electing Democrats until they end up with a bad economy. Then you can elect a Republican to catch it on the upswing, and things will start working the other way around.

Trump's been telling us for a year now that he is responsible for the stock market. If that's true should use his awesome power for good and fix it.

I think you misunderstand. I think that generally speaking Democratic policies have resulting in more sustained growth. But it's not credible to think that it's as significant as the numbers suggest. Gore was a coinflip. Do you really think he would have avoided a recession?

ROTFL

It's hard to tell what's going on with the kookers in regards to the economy. One day it's BO's economy, then the next it's DJT's. Back and forth, you see? They can't make up their minds. Now its a curse, of all things. LOL Wow, the leftist propaganda machine must be working real hard to compete with the Olympics.

Do you see those words that I typed?? They have a meaning that you are intentionally trying to change. You are responding to what I said as if it was "have any influence". But that's NOT what I said now is it??? So why don't you try responding to what I actually said, instead of what you wanted me to say.

Yes, and many around here, including the OP, were of the opinion that it was actually Obama. Until it dropped.

Americans elected as president a man who was five times bankrupted with a long and repetitive historical of being really bad at making business decision, being only successful at self-promoting himself with fake facts and information. What you expected???

How sure are you it is a bubble?

Willing to put money on it?

Tell me where you think the market will be at years end....we can go DJI or S&P numbers....

And if you want to play for charity we can make it as much as you want up to say $ 2500 (my favorite charity could use a little boost)

We are experiencing a correction....a NATURAL correction

markets react to where they see things going....not where they are

with the election of Trump, the markets saw a chance of two major things happening

1. the tax cut....which is now law
2. easier regulations, which means less red tape, and less expenses for companies

both items have happened, at least to a degree

do i think the market is overheated? yep

do i think we are in store for a correction? yep

DOW is at 26117 at the moment...down 326 today

i wouldnt mind seeing it fall to approx 22-23k for a nice correction.....

it would get some of the froth out of the market, and maybe some common sense back

i have cash sitting on sidelines...waiting for pullback....been waiting for nearly 2 years now

i am reinvesting dividends, but all new money is just sitting in cash waiting for correction

https://www.debatepolitics.com/polls/308096-poll-dow-increase-decrease-trump.html#post1068116156

i called for the correction....it was necessary....and the market depending on the fed action should simmer down now
