2018 FIFA World Cup Thread [W:87]

Could someone just take some of these boys to the local swimming pool where they would be better suited.

~ As for that incident...not a pen. Why? Notice Kane 's arm? If Kane is moving backwards then he is pulling the Tunisian player, while the Tunisian player is holding/pushing Kane... basically they are both fouling..or so it could easily be argued. Plus they basically trip each other... notice their legs ~

Not a bit of it Pete, from other angles you see Kane being pushed across and as he loses balance he instinctively grabs what he can. YOU see him fouling a Tunisian player, the rest of us see a rugby tackle.

Separately, some people have said possibly what happened was the VAR officials cancelled it out because Stone is pushing a Tunisian guy in the same incident.

Does this help?

Yeah, you see from lots of angles on the BBC broadcast. It's a rugby tackle pure and simple.

I guess the Tunisian player would have to be plunging a knife into Kane's jugular before you saw anything amiss, Pete. Or I guess Kane would just have to be, y'know, not English. Then you'd see a foul. Provided he wasn't Swedish or American either. You're just a riot of sporting nationalism.
Has nothing to do with nationality. I am Kane fan for ****ing sake. From that view it looks like they both are equal in the fouling. I will see if I can find other views.

OK, you have until FIFA find this and delete it.

It's always about tribalism and nationality with you Pete. You choose a side and cannot see anything good in the opponent and nothing bad in your elect. When I read something of yours that praises Ronaldo/Real Madrid/England/USA without caveat, or that criticises Messi/Barca/Denmark/Spain/Liverpool without qualifications I may alter my opinion. Eight years and counting.

Morocco playing really well against Portugal; the difference is Ronaldo. Guerreiro being owned by Amrabat. Morocco should have had a penalty for Fonte's shove in the back of Ziyach (I think it was). They had another shout that I think was no pen, neither the Portuguese shout for a foul on CR.

Portugal look strangely unsettled in defence but I just can't see Morocco having enough in approach to capitalise. Wouldn't surprise me to see the score remain 1-0.

Morocco lack a quality striker

Morocco much the better team this last 15 minutes but still lacking threat in the box. Sticking with the 1-0 prediction.

There you go. 1-0. It looked like a foregone conclusion for the entire second half. Despite being the better side by some distance in that last 45 minutes, they just don't have attacking midfielders to create chances nor a striker worth his wages. A top centre forward would have sunk at least three of the opportunities they did have. That last effort skying the ball over from 7 metres was scandalously profligate. Despite being the better side overall, they don't have Ronaldo so they don't win. Sorry for Morocco but they are just not good enough to continue.

Pepe is a horrible little man

He's a product of the ethos of the two teams for which he plays, in fact he's the archetype of it.

I so hope that Portugal come up against a team able to overcome that negativity and cynicism, but with Ronaldo in the squad and on such form they could go much, much further.

In the second round they will face either Russia or Uruguay. If it's Uruguay that's a game I'll happily miss.

Yea yea whatever, nothing of this is remotely true.

He aint little, but yes he has always been horrible. Should have been banned from football and put in jail for the assault back in the day.

Morocco should have one, were the better team. One thing that is frustrating about soccer, the better team often doesn't win

Spain attacking the ten man Iranian defence, where a wall of bodies builds up on the goal line, with both sides hacking to get the ball, when the keeper wraps himself around it and the whistle goes.
British commentator: "Well, it'll never replace football, but that was quite interesting!"

Some good football by Iran, hopefully Adidas, Le Coq Sportif or Puma will step up and supply football cleats to their players.

Yea they have had good players and team for some time now. This group is quite interesting and close.

Spain and Portugal at 4 points, Iran at 3. Next game is Portugal vs Iran, where winner takes all. Spain needs 1 point against Morocco to secure a place in the next round and Morocco has nothing to play for.

Yes that is true. Did not see the game, but the better team can be beaten by tactics and luck. Happens often with very defensive teams like Portugal

Yeah, Spain had over 70% possession but they could have lost, or at least tied Iran. Iran had many chances to tie it

And I hate it when teams just sit back and defend, those games turn into snore fests

If Morocco come out flying with nothing left to lose I can see an upset in the making

Yes but why would they? They are basically already on vacation.
