2017 NFL Draft [W:89]

Re: 2017 NFL Draft

The Atlanta fans probably think so.

The guy is a Steelers fan from Ohio. What I want to know is how Big Ben isn't in jail and how they won that Super Bowl against the Seahawks.

Re: 2017 NFL Draft

Bengals snag Mixon at 48.

Nice. He's probably the second best RB in the draft. And, for a team with a history of guys like Chris Henry, Chad Johnson, TO, Vontaze Burfict and Pacman Jones, Mixon is a choir boy.

I just saw this. Pretty disgusting. You bunch women in the face, no consequences. Marvin Lewis shouldn't have a job.

Bengals are good at turning a blind eye to stuff like this. Chris Henry would be the best example of it blowing up in your face. Pacman is the poster child for it leaving egg on your face. And, that last minute of the Steelers playoff game back in 2016 would define exactly how it hurts your team when you have a bunch of thugs on the field.

So it's not just GM Doug Whaley. The Bills have dismissed their entire scouting staff, as @mikerodak reported.

Paging Kobie.
As I understand it they fired him because of hiring Rex Ryan, losing players to free agency, and previous bad drafts. This one wasnt so bad on paper.

Re: 2017 NFL Draft

He claims to have multiple witnesses, including other women, that he asked her to leave then she got angry and left. She did a rape kit. We'll find out if he's lying soon enough. I presume teams spoke with his alleged witnesses.

Wouldn't you normally be all over the "men are treated unfairly and falsely accused all the time" narrative? Why not in this case?

After witnesses in the hotel room where an alleged rape involving the Raiders first-round draft pick occurred last month claimed that Conley and the alleged victim did nothing together, Conley’s lawyer now admits that Conley and the alleged victim had consensual sex, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media.

It was going to happen regardless of how the draft went. You generally want to hit the reset button after the draft rather than try to cram.

Re: 2017 NFL Draft

Steelers draft a WR for their 2 pick? LOL. They desperately need defense, but then draft a wide out? The only reason I can think of is all is not good in Steeler receiver land. The Steelers may be starting to tire of the BS circus with their receivers. Especially the 1 named Antonio Brown.

Didn't they just extend Brown?

Re: 2017 NFL Draft

Gotta wonder if he told the team that. It's looking more like a dumb pick.

Simply dumb and it makes you question if these teams actually care about issues of domestic violence.

Raiders: Okay Mr. Gareon Conley, I know you are being accused of rape and might go to jail for 10+ years but we will invest a first round pick on you.

Bengals: Okay Mr. Joe Mixon, I know there is video of you punching a women and broke bones in her face but we will draft you in the second round.

Yet Colin Kaepernick remains unsigned because he doesn't stand for the national anthem???

Gotta agree.

Except, if Kaep was a legit starter he would be signed no matter what. He seems to have lost his edge. I'd be happy if Miami gave him a shot as I've no faith in Tannehill.

Kap would be signed for $18M per year in a NY minute---probably by the Jets, lol---if he could throw and still run like he did when he played for Harbough.

Conley is a top 10 pick who fell into Vegas's lap at 24 due to his "issue." It would be foolish not to take him.

And, Mixon was probably the best RB in the draft. I'm glad the Bengals scooped him up in the second round. If he pans out, great. If he keeps beating women, he'll be out of the league right quick.

These comments are simply disgraceful.

Why do you hate merit based decisions, rewarding on field performance?

Teams like the Bengals and Raiders will sell their souls just to chase a Super Bowl Ring. You win with integrity and honor.

I am not opposed to teams drafting players with checkered pasts, but these two teams appeared to have rewarded bad behavior.

Conley should have been a third round pick at highest. Mixon a 4th. But drafting these players without any financial penalty is mind boggling.

Says the guy who loves the team caught cheating twice and extended the contract of a murderer.

I don't know how to respond to such a patently false statement. I mean really, just stupid.

Lololol. He's got you there.Poor Bucky. Facts aren't his friend.

Re: 2017 NFL Draft

Those are lies he just told. libelous and completely false.

Nope. Your Pats were caught cheating twice and extended the contract of a man who committed murder. Facts, baby.

They also knew who Hernandez was when they drafted him. So, for you to go all high horse, saying, "the Raiders and Bengals will do anything to win," is rather ironic. To say the least.

I am not opposed to second chances however I do believe in consequences. The Patriots invested a 4th round pick on Aaron Hernandez. That was an appropriate amount of risk given his character issues. A 4th round pick hardly has any job security compared to a first or second round pick.

“When he was at Florida, he had some issues there too, there were some things that went on,” Reese said, via Bedard. “We all knew about it. It was just from our standpoint, we were getting a first-round talent in the fourth round under a contract that was going to keep him in line or it wasn’t going to cost us a penny. The real downside for us was the fourth-round pick.”

And that’s why teams will continue to take chances on talented players with red flags. At a certain point in the draft, it’s worth the risk to roll the dice on a player who may end up being a steal. The downside, as Reese said, is the squandering of the lower-round pick.

Reese admits Patriots knew Hernandez had issues | ProFootballTalk

Okay Calamity read this part very carefully:

“We knew he had some issues prior,” Reese said. “[Former Florida coach] Urban Meyer and Bill [Belichick] were very, very close, and I think Urban convinced Bill that, you know, that these things weren’t going to be an issue. When we structured his first contract, his rookie contract, we probably had 75 percent of the money in the contract set up so that he would only make it if he stayed out of trouble, didn’t miss meetings, was always there doing the right thing. And for the period of the original contract, he lived up to every bit of it. So it turned out well. Of course, after that, after he signed [a $40 million contract extension], things kind of went awry.”

You act as if the Patriots knew he was a murderer before drafting or giving him a contract extension?
