1946 Lynching Case Records Must Remain Sealed

He does pick those under his cabinet and demands fealty. Read the op.

Yes... Trump is the Overlord Despot that you fear... Thought Crime.

William Jefferson Clinton had nothing to do with this case.

On the other hand, Trump's DOJ fought to keep the grand jury testimony buried, even after 74 years.

One can only wonder what/who they are protecting with this dick move.

Probably just to screw with YOUR mind.

No one was ever charged in the killing of two black couples by a group of white men in rural Georgia, known as the Moore’s Ford lynchings.

Mourners carried the coffin of a lynching victim out of Mount Perry Baptist Church in Bishop, Ga.
in 1946. The lynching was a quadruple killing.

Even after the passage of 74 years, the Trump Justice Department fought against the release of the grand jury testimony. More than 100 people testified before a federal grand jury in December 1946 but no one was indicted.

Reminds me somewhat of the eventual indictment and conviction of Klansman Byron De La Beckwith (1920-2001) for the 1963 assassination of Medgar Evers in his Jackson, Mississippi driveway. After two trials resulted in hung juries in 1964, Beckwith thought he had escaped justice. But in 1994 buried trial documents were unearthed and Beckwith was indicted, convicted of the murder and sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Are any of the suspects going to be alive? If not this is just an academic exercise to see if the government would release the documents.

What was the purpose of this exercise in the first place?

Trump has nothing to do with releasing records or not... Trump is not a Master of Puppets controlling everything in government.

He sure controls William Barr.

And people wonder why idiot leftists have no credibility when they **** themselves and shriek RACIST!!! RACIST!!!

Are you trying to argue the brutal murder of African Americans by a lynch mob wasn’t racist?

I'm stating that trying to inflame racial hatred and using a case form 1947 to try to indict Trump as racist is stupid as **** and that anyone that truly believes that that is an intelligent play is a ****ing moron. But hey...thats just, like, my opinion, man.

I've studied this particular case and interviewed the scholar who brought the lawsuit in collaboration the granddaughter of one of the victims. There are sound arguments on both sides for whether those documents should be released. Everyone interviewed at the time is dead and the case has clear historical importance. However, grand jury records are sealed not to silence the truth but to ensure the validity and integrity of today's grand jury proceedings and the promise of discretion in exchange for candor.

Regardless, the scholar who brought the suit -- really, the only person on earth with enough background in the original case to fully interpret those transcripts -- died late last year. So that was pretty much that.

Maybe... but Trump Trump Trump is past sounding a lot like "The Sky is Falling!!"

It isn't. People need to chill out and stop hyper-ventilating over freaking everything Trump does or says.

I suggest that those that are terrorized by Trump need to get a life.

Trying to figure out who committed a horrific crime is not “trying to inflame racial hatred”. It is setting right wrongs which were committed long ago based out of a deluded sense of racial superiority.

If Trump doesn’t want to be called racist, perhaps he should stop pandering to white nationalists and all the other scum out there.

When one treats innocent people so badly that even ****ing Nazi POWs are appalled.....that says a lot.

Without question the Klan the did it. Southern white supremacists carrying on Reconstruction traditions.

The state legislature of Georgia is still passing laws/requirements to suppress African-American voting.

If Trump wasn't such an all-around putz, the less criticism he would receive.

As it is.....

Looks to me like they want to bury 1946 southern RACISM... pretend it never existed.

That is my point... stop paying so much attention to Trump. Apart from this medical pandemic... America was rolling along just fine with Trump. He did some good things he did some stupid things he said a ****ing ton of stupid things... so what? And we both know I am not talking about criticism... I am talking about the many MANY people, including many here, that simply obsess over every little thing that he does or says.

The Trump Klan Party gotta keep all keep things the way they were back then, so the racism can continue.

You bury your head in the sand if you want, but I'm not about to. Trump is ruining this country.

And I still have heard no rational reason for why the GJT has to remain sealed after 74 years with everyone involved already dead.

I am not burying my head in the sand... I just don't let him ruin my life like you are letting him do to you.

I've never really understood why records are sealed for long periods of time. Some long enough to have a generation die out. It's a censorship that screams "Y'all are too stupid to know about this!"
