Major League Baseball 2019

As an old-time baseball traditionalist I think a Astro-Nats WS would be fun...

With both teams starting staffs I can see Seven 1-0 games. lol

BTW Jack I'm going to zing you a bit here.. I told you a few times I thought Harper was a clubhouse problem. You disagreed... Obviously what the Nats are doing this year may not have a thing to do with Harper no longer being there but also it might.

He was not a problem in Washington and he's not a problem in Philadelphia. In fact, word is that he's in regular supportive contact with several former team mates in Washington.
What is different is that the emergence of Juan Soto and Victor Robles has made the Nats' OF this year without Harper better than it was last year with him.

Last year? The Nats playoff woes with Harper go back further than last year.

Add in the fight he had for all to see in the dugout? His lack of hustle and leadership.

We'll agree to disagree. But I think this year speak VOLUMES.

As I said, he remains in regular and cordial contact with several Nats.

Not sure what that has to do with the Nats shaking off their playoff problems this year.

Fact is he's no longer there not hustling and showing poor leadership.

Leading by example is more important than keeping in touch via Twitter and Instagram, or whatever.

I thought you said we'd agree to disagree. I always thought his hustle & leadership were fine -- certainly not a problem. No team mate ever complained. Generally he was one of the Nats who played well in the post season.
Player who has made the most difference in the clubhouse this year has been Gerardo Parra, picked up off waivers from the Giants.

Some complained...Have a nice night..

“I would have done the same thing if I were Papelbon,” one player anonymously told Nitkowski.

“Pap did what should have been done three years ago. Veteran players should be doing this across the league,” another added.

“As a teammate, you always feel you have the right to say something to someone if you feel it’s wrong or hurts the club. Right after the popup is not the best time to call out a hitter,” one said.

While MLB players agree that Harper’s lack of hustle warranted a strong response from his teammates, they acknowledge that handling the matter inside the clubhouse and at a different time would’ve been more appropriate.

One player, however, was unequivocal in his assessment of Harper.

“He quit on his team after the fight, just like he does on popups.”

Following Nitkowski’s initial report, former MLB pitcher LaTroy Hawkins publicly supported Papelbon.

No critical comment came from a Nats player.

Lol...I just checked the score of the Nats game on my phone, and thought they were still showing results from yesterday’s game.

Nats are going to the World Series, and will have several days more rest than the AL winner.

Too much time off in baseball is usually not a good thing.

Get rotation lined up, and let relievers recuperate.

I remember the Rockies going like 20-0 to get into the playoffs and sweep the NLCS only to die on the vine in the WS, getting swept themselves, after the AL winner went seven games and stayed in rhythm.

Anyway, I didn't expect the Nats to sweep the Cards. Impressive wins too.

Nats having so much time off is a double-edged sword, but I err on the side that they need their pitching arms rested up for a 7-game series, that will probably go more than 4 games like the NLCS did.
Go Nats! I can't believe we're in the World Series.
When I think back to May...everything post season has been gravy and immensely gratifying.

Off to the World Series, these Nationals have proved everyone wrong (WaPo)
The Nats' World Series birth, Thomas Boswell writes, is like going to your backyard with a spade to plant petunias and striking oil instead. When it all looked like it had all fallen apart, finally, this team's depth, ability to avoid its bullpen, and old-school habits got them the team's first-ever pennant. They probably won't dominate in the Fall Classic — but there's a chance, and the team knows this isn't the end of the line quite yet.

Coincidence. It was a common phrase in DC long before Harper's gaffe in Philadelphia. Count on Yahoo sports to lack the depth to know that.

Agree. I don't think the Nats organization would stoop to trolling and further, would take away from the players who have fought hard and earned this spot. Why would they make it about Harper?.
And not for nothing, if they wanted to see Harper get jabbed at, they would have gotten a belly full and ANY home game, where Harper was booed and jeered and had some pretty nasty stuff yelled at him by Nats fans, as he came up to bat and played the outfield.

So, no, don't believe this.

Wasn't just yahoo.

Alden GonzalezESPN Staff Writer

Ryan Zimmerman, on reaching the World Series without Bryce Harper: "Bryce Harper is a phenomenal player. One of the best players I've ever played with. That's the business part of this game. You can't keep everybody. We would love to keep him, we would love to keep anybody who's been a really good player here. That's just not how it works out. He's a big part of why we're here today, as well."
