[W:549] Nfl 2018

Re: Nfl 2018

Not me, I think he's going to ball out for the Vikes. He's careful with the ball, he makes quick reads & has a quick release, goes through his progressions instead of zeroing in on the hot receiver or checkdown. I watched plenty of dismal Redskins games where he was the only offensive skill player worth a damn. Balls bouncing off receivers hands & numbers count against the QB in terms of comp/att and W/L ratings, but the devil is always in the details. Cousins carried that offense for 3+ years and was 2nd only to Brees in the FA QB market. Sure he's no Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers, but he's certainly no Ryan Leaf or RG3 either. A SB-winning team could easily be built around him.
Looks like the deal is done, so we'll see soon enough.

Re: Nfl 2018

Packers gain Jimmy Graham but lose Jordy Nelson. Is that a net positive?

Graham is a bit of a girlie man. He is afraid to block. But he is money in the red zone.

and jordy is bank on the sideline

Re: Nfl 2018

Lewis, Dola and Butler all gone. Nate Solder makes that another after his huge contract from the giants.
Hope they are saving all this cap room for someone huge

The only one that will really hurt will be Solder...provided that Edelman returns at or near full steam.

Re: Nfl 2018

Welp, Bears sign a whole bunch of guys but Im not holding my breath since I think we're still in a rebuild stage.

What concerns me is Cousins and the Vikings- they could be the team to watch in the NFC North is Kirk lives up to expectations.

Lewis will be missed as well. White is great catching in the backfield but he’s no where near as effective running the ball

I suspect they will find another plug and play back to fill the role. Thats always been one of their strengths as an organization.

Danny Amendola: - He would have been the 4th WR with Julian Edelman coming back. Heck, with Malcolm Mitchell and drafting another WR, he might not have made the team.

Dion Lewis - A player that small and with durability issues would have been a risky signing. The Patriots have never been a run dominate team since that one season when Corey Dillon rushed for 1,600 yards.

Malcolm Butler - No need to explain

Nate Solder - The biggest loss however his play has dipped and isn't as valuable as before.

Re: Nfl 2018

Saints owner Tim Benson has died at age 90.

Benson wasn't the perfect owner but I did appreciate him keeping the team in New Orleans despite a lot of opportunities to move. RIP. Hopefully we can bring home the Lombardi in his owner.

Re: Nfl 2018

Crabtree available. Free agency seems qb and wr rich. Draft is qb rich. Can qb contracts continue to climb?

Re: Nfl 2018

Craptree...

3 years with Oak: yards 900 1000 600, TDs 9 8 8. The 600 is as their #1 for most games and the season as he eclipsed Cooper.

A Fantasy team could do better at qb and wr, and te, with free agents (given choice of all available) than rb. That's my free agency fantasy analysis.

He will probably go back to the 49'ers and join his buddy Richard Sherman.

They added Jason McCourty, who is Devin's twin brother. Nice move considering they gave up practically nothing for him. Bill loves those players from Rutgers.

They could sign Adrian Clayborn, whose a beast against the run. Not much of a pass rusher but he would be an upgrade from what they had before.

Re: Nfl 2018

One guy I would want is eric reid. Hes an upgrade over chung, younger and can play lb. We all know though we no one is signing him.

Re: Nfl 2018

The Seahawks are letting older vets go left & right:

- Michael Bennett (Eagles)
- Richard Sherman (49ers)
- Paul Richardson (Redskins)
- Sheldon Richardson (Vikings)
- DeShawn Shead (Lions)

Plus they're still shopping Earl Thomas to "several teams" for at least a 1st and 3rd.

Meanwhile, they've signed a whopping ONE external free agent: edge rusher Bark Mingo.

They're actively trying to get younger, hungrier, and cheaper. I'm a big fan of that!

Re: Nfl 2018

It's a great way to show whether the coaching staff has a great program, or just relies on talented athletes. I just hope we keep enough field leadership to keep the younger guys steady as they adjust to the NFL and the pressures.

Re: Nfl 2018

Today we signed the best pass blocking TE in the league, 30 y/o Ed Dickson (which reminds me that I forgot JFG in my list above). It's for 3 years, but with the 1st year fully guaranteed, I would be amazed if there's any dead money for cutting him after 1 year. I'm guessing his role will be leadership/mentoring for Nick Vanett and a rookie. As always, Pete will make him compete for the starting position.

actually, dickson is not fleet enough to be an impactful blocker down field ... but he is very good at blocking for running backs
Olsen is our tight end who is effective blocking for down field receivers. he's not going anywhere (but to the hall of fame after he retires)
dickson is also a player with great character and is very coachable
sorry to lose him but glad his strong work ethic is really going to pay off

That's cool, I just want him to block pass rushers and blitzers, not so much downfield. I also read he had his best season yet in receiving last year, so that's good stuff too. :)

Re: Nfl 2018

Hill is a decent replacement for Dion Lewis.
