Major League Baseball 2017

This was kind of a surprising move considering the Yankees made it a whole lot farther this year than anyone expected them to. It also seems like it was Hal and Brian's decision, not Joe's.

I'm hearing it was not Girardi's or Cashman's decision. This came from the Steinbenners.

Of course right now that's all speculation and rumor. But reading Girardi's press release it definitely doesn't sound like he quit. He was let go.

Hmmm. ESPN talking head said he had been expecting this ever since the family relocated permanently to Florida during spring training, and he respected "Joe's decision."

It seems kind of weird to replace the manager right as the team is starting to come together but that's just my take.

Nats have their spring training in Florida, perfect for Girardi, who must not burn any bridges. Girardi would be excellent for Lobaton and Severino ...

In June/July there were rumors the Yankees were not going to rehire him. But again, just rumors and those rumors were all on the Yankee not bringing him back, not Girardi quitting. And reading Joe's email, he was let go. He didn't quit.

Yankees did it in 1995/1996.

Yeah. That was coming off the 1994 strike year and nothing was "normal" then. If I remember correctly the Yankees turned over damned near half their roster from '95 to '96.

Lots of talk today that teams want to go with younger managers in baseball nowadays, the team brass want more analytical managers, guys who will work more with the GM. They don't want older guys who are 'old school'. Of course guys like Madden and Francona are untouchable.

But IDK, might be something to that line of thought. Mets went young. So did the Red Sox.

Nats should have an opening for a General Manager. Cubs would be smart to go after Mike Maddux to replace fired Chris Bosio ...

Maddux is going to the Cards.

I think Joe has his old pitching coach from TB in mind. Bosio is a great catch for any team - hope he goes to the AL.

Maddux will certainly help the Cardinals ...

I don’t understand the Yankees’ decision to not bring back Girardi, but I’m an Orioles fan. For the Orioles, a manager getting his team to just around .500 is a major success. For the Yankees, overachieving and just missing the World Series is a failure. Two completely different worlds.

I had to take today off work. I'm still processing. I hope the boys in blue are more resilient than me. I'm still in the denial phase and I haven't been able to move onto even anger and its only Game 2.

Losing like that really sucks. It probably didn't help to be stuck sitting in traffic for two hours after getting your heart ripped out either.

It's official. The Nats were screwed.

MLB’s Joe Torre confirms that Nationals were hurt by a blown call in NLDS Game 5
This won't make the winter any easier.

Dusty or no coach on the Nats bench knew the rule OR knew they could ask the Umps to buzz NY and get a ruling on a rule question?

It was obviously a bad call, but the Nats come off looking pretty bad too. Between them playing a very sloppy inning, to the Nats bench not knowing they could challenge the Ump's ruling.

It was not a reviewable call. Both Weiters and Dusty protested.
