Minister: American Girl doll 'a trick of the enemy' to emasculate boys

A move by a national doll manufacturer to add the first boy to its lineup has one local minister in a tizzy.



The Rev. Keith Ogden of Hill Street Baptist Church sent a message to more than 100 of his supporters and parishioners Wednesday titled, "KILLING THE MINDS OF MALE BABIES."




Ogden invoked Scripture as he criticized the American Girl company for its debut of Logan Everett, a drummer boy doll, who performs alongside Tenney Grant, a girl doll with a flair for country western music.

Logan is the lone boy among American Girl’s vast cast of characters, and the company sees him as both a.way to please longtime fans as well as a new addition who will appeal to a broader audience.


"This is nothing more than a trick of the enemy to emasculate little boys and confuse their role to become men," the minister said in the e-mailed statement he sent at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday after watching a segment about American Girl on Good Morning America.
Ogden has been influential in Asheville's community, often speaking publicly about race and policing, violence in low-income communities and his opposition to same-sex marriage.


In June he announced he would soon leave Buncombe County due to his wife's health concerns. He said Wednesday he still doesn't know when he will depart; he is still trying to sell his house.


American Girl, however, says it's just meeting customer demands and expanding its market.


"A boy character has been a top request from our fans for decades,'' said spokeswoman Stephanie Spanos, adding that along with two new historical characters the toy line this year will introduce more dolls with modern story lines than at any time in its 31-year history.


"We're hopeful Logan will appeal to both girls and boys," she said. "For boys, we know Logan can speak directly to them and give them something unique and special to call their own.''

I have to disagree with the minister, I think there is nothing wrong with this. The American Girl Boy doll is great, the problem is the prices with these dolls. Hopefully the brands that make lower priced version will also make a boy doll as well.

"It just doesn't make sense," Ogden said. "It's not natural for a boy to act like a girl. It's not natural for a girl to want to be a boy. You've got the government and people who placate this mess instead of telling little boys they can't change their biology."

It is my belief those who cry the loudest about the supposed "emasculating" of males have the tiniest penises. Why else would they care so much about something which has absolutely no effect on their lives?

It's tiny penis syndrome.
 
Getting boys interested in girls toys and girls interested in boys toys is part of the movement to make men more feminine and women more masculine. Furthermore, it's not the fact that it's a doll that people find objectivable here, but the fact that the dolls are focused around more feminine things.

I'm convinced that men that think about other men's penis sizes have self confidence issues focuses around their own penis size.

I have no lack of confidence in anything good sir. I just think some people try way too hard, and care way too much, about their masculinity and I'm telling you why I think they care so much. I believe those of us who aren't obsessed with some arbitrary definition of masculinity tend to be less worried about the size of certain extremities, for reasons I'll let you understand on your own.

People like the minister in this story, who is so consumed with the concept of masculinity, possible does so because he feels like less of a man between the legs. I believe tiny penis syndrome is a thing and I feel like one of the symptoms is the need to try and convince people how much of a man he is. Again, those of us who aren't embarrassed by what's down there tend to care less than those who are.

:roll: Maybe he is just opposed to men acting like women and women acting like men. Maybe he just cares about maintaining what he finds important. No, that can't be right. It must be because he has something going on in his head that all goes back to his penis. Geez.

I do consider women and men as equals, if that's a feminist to you so be it.

We can set attributes to a gender all we want but that doesn't mean everyone has to conform to what certain people decided a female's role is.

So that view you just said is the feminist view. They think there is nothing to it but social forces and that it is really nothing more than oppression.

To be fair, in the other thread you were bragging about your extensive research into the connection between the proportions of the male anatomy and penis size. Sounds kind of like an obsession to me.¯\_(ツ)_/¯
 
Fear not.

I never had barbie dolls growing up. I played with Luke, Chewie, Vader, Han, Yoda, Boba, Leia and Co.

It didn't make me more masculine and I didn't turn to the dark side. Don't listen to the crazy Minister. It's a trap.
