Minister: American Girl doll 'a trick of the enemy' to emasculate boys

You don't know? They have gay members. Damn, you should check things out before getting ugly like that.
I know they have gay members which is why I asked what is homophobic about them. They seem to embrace homosexuality, not fear it

But you're over there disparaging them. Village People, really. What did they ever do to you?

How was what i said disparaging of them?

I said that one song had a military theme, which of course it does, a not very serious theme of course

What i think really epitomized military ignorance towards homosexuality was that the navy itself contacted the band to put together a music vid as a recruitment for the navy...at a time when homosexuality was strictly outlawed. The navy even gave them ships to use and the vid itself had quite a gay undertone. But apparently the navy brass didn't notice

The implication was clear. Don't be obtuse.

Ken was not advertised towards boys and was almost exclusively played with by girls.

Btw, girls have been getting more masculine for decades now. I doubt either of us could disapprove or prove the GI Joe character did nothing or something to effect that. I would however say that it's hard to argue that creating a culture that promotes masculine behavior in women didn't influence the increase in the behavior.
Perhaps it was the rosy the riviter adds

At the same time it's been some years now that people like you have been promoting toys like this for boys and even a society that promotes more feminine behavior in men, and well, there is more feminine men around, isn't there.
you are really missing the mark on this. I don't think boys are being feminized per se, just that masculinity is being pushed away. It doesn't have **** to do with toys.

What did he say that was disparaging?

What does this "boy doll" look like, exactly? What's the primary selling point?

I know I'd certainly be hesitate to buy my son anything from a company explicitly called "American Girl."

Just... Why?

Yeeeaaaahhh... Sorry, but...

No red blooded little boy is going want to play with this fat little wuss.

That's a baby doll, full stop. It was clearly made with a little girl's sensibilities in mind.

Yeah, where's your concern about the longstanding influence to prevent (usually) boys who were interested in girls-marketed toys from even being around them? You know, those kids do exist, even without any prodding. Researchers way back in the 80s found that about 10% of boys tended to play with toys that were intended for girls, given the choice. But at home, most have been denied their desires to have such toys. But you don't give a damn about that, of course, just make the same tired argument it will make kids gay/effeminate

Eh. That statistic could be misleading (assuming it's even true).

Technically, I guess I "played" with my younger sisters' barbies while I was growing up. Keep in mind, however, that what that "play" generally consisted of was stripping them naked out of pre-pubescent curiosity.

The "dance instructor" barbies with the extra flexible joints were particulalrly entertaining in this regard, as I recall.

A lot of toddlers and preschoolers, boys and girls, play with dolls of this type. It about1rt or 2nd grade that boys tend to drift off, and those girls who are no longer play with dolls. Beside, if the girls are playing mommy with the dolls, how is it wrong that boys play daddy, and pretend/learn to be caring fathers?

The only context I ever remember playing "daddy" in was if there were girls involved, and it was a "house" kind of scenario that was their idea. It wasn't something I did on my own.

It's not like I was some jockish bruiser of a child either. I was fairly sensitive and well behaved.

Pre-school age children are too under-developed to indicate much of anything for the purposes of this discussion.
