Should People Be Forced To Vote Or Pay A Fine?

Should People Be Forced To Vote Or Pay A Fine?

Another thread inspired me to post this poll. I think some lefties here on DP feel that Democrats best chance of winning elections is by forcing people to vote or face a fine as they do in some other countries like Australia. I guess their thinking is that the more people who vote the more will vote Democrat. So, should we up our voter turnout to 90% or more by forcing people to vote or face a fine for not voting?

No we should not force people to vote. I don't want someone at the polls because they don't want to pay a fine. We got enough idiots who know little to nothing regarding politics voting in elections. Its because of those people and die hard party-tards why we got the scum in office we got and why we can never really seem to get rid of them. If anything we should encourage people to research the issues and if possible the candidates they are voting for. Not encourage people to blindly vote for who ever that the stupid get out and vote campaigns seem to do.

I would prefer that each Congressional district be required to make public the number of eligible voters it contains each election, requiring the ballots cast for each candidate in each district to be made public.
There are but 3 choices a voter can make, one being "for" a candidate, another being "against" a candidate, and lastly to "abstain". Even our elected members of Congress sometimes abstain and/or don't show up to vote.
If there is no candidate to vote "for" or to vote "against", the only rational choice is to not vote at all. There should be no write in votes cast for persons who are not on the ballots, just the names of candidates who have met the requirement to be placed on the ballots, and those names should be identical on every States ballots.
If we want to see greater voter turn out, perhaps we need be given a better choice of candidates

I have talked to a lot of people that do not vote. They have determined that it doesn't matter who they vote for. Both parties are owned by the rich and powerful and do their bidding no matter who you vote for. The illusion of choice is all we have. We vote for their man R or D. Or you could vote third party. Trump got in and he was not one of the party puppets I say. They say look what the rich and powerful are putting him through.

But the truth is often you can't even get on the ballot without a lot of money. You need money to reach people. A lot of the money comes from the parties themselves. About the only way the average Joe or Jane can even get on the ballot is if they are approached by the party to do so and the party writes them a big fat check and backs them. But, even then, in most cases the party picks out someone who is not an average Joe or Jane to be their candidate and they pick someone who will not disappoint the party as to what is expected of them in return for the backing. Since the candidate would have an almost impossible chance of winning without the backing of their party, they pledge allegiance to the party and don't waiver very far from that pledged allegiance. There really isn't a way to "field a better candidate". Our only choices are between a bought and paid for Democrat or a bought and paid for Republican and many on the left are delusional if they think that Bernie or AOC are somehow different.

Why is it that some think they should be able to decide what others do? What gives them the right to decide that I must have healthcare or vote? Why do these people feel that they should be able determine to how many or the type of guns I own? Why do they think they are qualified to determine what people drive or eat? As long as I am not infringing on the rights of someone else, what business is it of theirs? These people remind me of the 80 year old bitty who lived behind me. She had her nose in everyone's business and thought she ran the neighborhood. She would constantly call and complain that kids playing in our pool were making noise and upsetting her dog. Sometimes others need to understand that we don't really care how you think we should run our lives.

The only conclusion I can come to is these people are so irresponsible or insecure they feel they are not capable of making valid decisions and therefore everyone else must be the same.

Because these people know what is better for you than you do and if they shove it down your throat it will be for your own good, much like a mother shoving medicine down a toddler's throat or forcing them to take it. It's for their own good and your own good, whether you like it or not.

Your rights are insured by the government. The government is representative of the people. You nor I are islands, we are communal members in a much larger concept, a nation.

Praise be to socialism!

I agree, we had around 60 million of those types of people vote for a monster yet that is our system. Voting is a precious right, use it.

But but but you guys claim it was low information voters who elected Trump president and now you want even more low information voters to vote? That doesn't make any sense. Or are you just lying when you claim low information voters are the ones who elected Trump?

Fearful secularists believe the government should tell everyone what to do and how to do it. They seem unaware that there is no entity known as the all-seeing, all-knowing mother government, just more fallible humans like themselves who think everyone should think the same thoughts they do.

Sounds like a science fiction movie, which kind of makes sense, because many of these lefty socialists are lost in their own reality, AKA fantasy.

This idea stems from the following video:

While he was addressing Christians, and true or false, this concept was accepted by both the Democratic and Republican parties as true.

I honestly would like to see mandatory voting just to see what’s true and what’s not. My personal beliefs are fairly left but I believe in American democracy more than I believe I am correct on all issues. And if I don’t like the way the country is going, there is no wall keeping me here. It’s not freedom if we aren’t free to leave.

So I am voting yes to the poll, not because I think my side will win, but because I’d like to see exactly where the American public really stands without all the rhetoric.

If implemented, you wouldn't find out. If you force these people to vote, it would be like reading a ballot written in Arabic. They would be filling in the bubbles in a nice cute pattern because they wouldn't know one candidate from another, nullifying the results of being anything meaningful. About the only result you would get would be to find out which side's trillions of dollars in sound bite ads worked the best because it would literally bring in trillions of dollars in new advertisement money to see which side was more effective in buying voter's votes.

So very little difference than now?

Eliminate political parties, especially at the national level. The origin of government powers should be the result of a majority of both the people and the States, not simply a majority of the people.

But in response to the OP question, everyone has voted in every election. Those who didn't fill out a ballot should be tallied in each election and their total number should be recorded as none of the above, and made public.

Those who want to examine how mandatory voting works, need only examine North Korea. I strongly suspect this is what the Democrats have in mind. First they make you vote then they tell you how to vote. Those who oppose the grand scheme will experience the whole wrath of the IRS. Oh wait, I think Obama already tried that.

You seemed to think if we forced everyone to vote we would find something out. All we would find out is that voters have scrambled eggs tor brains. We wouldn't find anything out. But I do find it amusing the left thinks low information voters elected Trump president and now they want more low information voters voting, actual proof that it is the lefty voters who are the idiots.

Which "lefties" brought you to that conclusion? Please include a link to their posts which made you assume that this is what they "think" so I can follow your thought process and see for myself. Thanks.

I don't understand the need to talk about our fantasies here on DP. I've got some good ones too but I probably can't post them here without violating site rules. The world I live in is reality and I would rather makes posts regarding realities rather than fantasies. I don't know if you are a lefty or not but lefties, especially since Trump was elected president, seem to only want to deal in the fantasy world. You need to wake up and see how the country or the world can be changed using reality.

Again, the link has already been made. It's not up to me to spoon feed you. If you can't keep up then you shouldn't be here.

What are you calling a fantasy?

There are over 170 posts here in this thread. You find it. I'm tired of the mindless games you play.

So you can't point me to the posts, or say the names of the lefties so I can search for myself. Got it.

Discussing things with you is always interesting. You post and run. Every day.

i don't know why I bothered anyway. Your claims almost always are lies.
