Looks like the mods closed the thread. I'll just say this, I spent two years in Laos fighting that secret war. Just 120 of us along with the Royal Lao and the Hmong had fought the PL and NVA to at least a stalemate. Then congress got wind of the war, it became public, in either 1970 or 71. All sorts of restrictions were then placed on us. Those restrictions led directly to the fall of Laos to the communist, same for Cambodia and South Vietnam. I was one angry guy.
Not backing the contras was just another way of congress surrendering to the communist. I think back then I actually thought congress was pro communism. Hard to imagine today, but that was my mindset. I wasn't angry at North Vietnam, the USSR or China, they were just doing what they thought in their best interest. I was mad at congress for allowing them to do so without trying to stop them. What I didn't want was another Cuban Missile Crisis. One had to live through that to understand.
