Baby Girl survives 3 days with bullet in her

Oh yeah, god--who recently let countless thousands of Haitian children die in horror--smiled down on this single child and kept it alive to grow up as an orfan. What a benevolent being this god surely is!

Who are your least favorite drivers?

Truckers who think they can drive it like it's a car. Picture this scene: it was late at night and I'd just disembarked the ferry from Belfast in Stranraer, Scotland. The main road to the motorway network is about 90 miles of winding single carriageway, with just the odd short section with...

    "Anyone But England" row

I can hardly blame you Scots for not liking God Save the Queen. I don't think that many English people even like it--I know I certainly don't--and we're glorified rather than insulted in it. As for Flower of Scotland: I'm more offended by the horrendous "wee bit" tautology then the reference...

The UK about to go bankrupt!

Hmm... strange then that the BBC are reporting better than expected economic growth.

    "Anyone But England" row

He he... I once got into a slightly heated discussion with a young Ulsterman who took exception to me calling him an Irishman. "I AM BRITISH!" he yelled at me in a distinct Paisley-esque manner. Had I been sober I would probably have apologised and left it at that, but my comedy beer head drove...

Who are your least favorite drivers?

I used to have to drive a lot on the UK's congested long haul dual carriageways and I lost count of the number of times I saw a truck pull out to overtake another, went for mile after mile trying to get up enough speed for the manoeuvre but failed and eventually dropped back to the inside lane...

    "Anyone But England" row

Actually, I think it's more the other way around: most non-English people see British as being English. ;)

    "Anyone But England" row

My grandparents were from county Mayo, so I know exactly what you're saying. But it concerned me just how vitriolic some of the anti-English--English mind, not British--sentiments still seemed to be. They seem to forget that most of the Ulster Unionists are of Scottish descent.

    "Anyone But England" row

I agree with you that the British anthem is a dirge, but I can't stand Land of Hope and Glory either. Even though I'm not religious at all, I prefer the Blake hymn Jerusalem. Stirring without being nationalistic. I must admit I envy you the Flower of Scotland though.

    "Anyone But England" row

I was working in Ireland just before the France '98 world cup and I was saddened by the number of people who apparently wished England ill. I would tell them I didn't know a single English football fan that didn't get behind Ireland in the USA tournament, but it didn't seem to cut any ice. Old...

Women say some rape victims should take blame - survey

Apart from the odd numskull comment, it seems pretty much agreed here that the actions of the victim, however reckless or foolish, should not excuse the perpetration of rape in any way whatsoever. Unfortunately, however, that is not how rape is judged in the real world. The perception that some...

Irrational fears give nuclear power a bad name...

So I take it you think lying to the public, and neglecting a large structure such as a cooling tower to the point where it simply collapses, isn't something to be concerned about?

Women say some rape victims should take blame - survey

Oh I quite agree. I'm just saying that the survey results may be skewed by a disproportionate number of such women being interviewed, as I find it hard to believe the figures quoted in the article are representative of UK women in general.

Women say some rape victims should take blame - survey

It would be interesting to see the religious and ethnic make up of the women surveyed. I only say this because I used to work with a couple of very religious immigrant women and they had absolutely appalling ideas about women who didn't live up to their "moral" standards. According to them...

And the self destruct of the UK Tories has started

You can half forgive statistical mistakes like this when they're made in speeches or on debate panels, but when they publish them in major campaign documents it's not very reassuring. If they can't work out simple percentages, or don't have the wherewithal to proof read and fact check their own...
