Police officers should be required to be nice

Police officers need to take control of every situation, and often that precludes being "nice". Nice can and does get them killed.

Not being nice has lead us to this point of cop assassinations...

That's because they deal with a-holes all day.

And if they can't handle it than they shouldn't be in that line of work. It should be realized that police officers chose their occupation.

They handle it all right. No where does it say they have to be "nice" when they do it. Isn't part of the job description. All that's required is be professional. That means straightforward and all business. If the a-holes don't think that's nice enough for 'em, too bad. Don't do something stupid that draws their attention.

Police officers should be required to be professional. The extreme vast majority of them are. Some arent.

Police officers should be required to be nice to people and if they aren't they should lose their job and perhaps be incarcerated as well.
Omg, are you serious? How old are you?

He is white so that should make everything OK...
Why are you so bitter? Still mad the democrats didn't win? I've known you for years across several forums and you always just bitch bitch bitch. Don't you get tired of listening to yourself gripe? Dude, it's OLD. Get over it. If you like socialism, move to Cuba; get out. We're done with the democrats and their over-taxing and social meddling.

Who would get my political view (which you have incorrect) out of my statement and then rant about it?

Answer: A political hack.

I have known you to and you make racist post after racist post... all good. Be true to yourself.

If a police officer is dealing with an obvious criminal they should use whatever means necessary to stop the criminal, but beyond that police officers should conduct themselves with politeness, courtesy, and respect for others. And this includes, as a matter of fact this mostly is about, when police officers are off duty and engaging in interactions with other people, such as on internet forums.

Why limit it to police officers? Shouldn't all people "conduct themselves with politeness, courtesy, and respect for others."?

The contact I have had with LEO's has been positive. They all carried out their duties in a professional manner.

Good for you. I can't say the same for myself.

A felony judge I know said there are 3 types of police officers:

1. The "White Knight." They are police because they want to battle evil people and protect the helpless.

2. The "Thug." They are police for the power.

3. The "employee." They are police because they need the job and it is just a job.

The judge said it is #3 that is the truly "good" police. They go to work. Do their job professionally and go home.

"White knight" police will lie, set people up, abuse and otherwise use their power to get people they see as bad guys - whether or not the people really are bad guys. Thugs are thugs.

You ignored the questions.

The logical fallacies are flowing with this one. First off, not every cop enforces every law in the book. Take a look at your local traffic laws and you'll see how many laws you and everybody you know are getting away with. The reason is that officers have discretion. It's physically impossible for police to enforce every law. Second, which laws are unjust and being enforced on a regular basis? And finally, why are you lumping all cops in with the few that actually do enforce these "unjust and cruel" laws?

Perhaps, but especially police officers.

1. It doesn't claim that cops enforce all laws, rather that they agree to. No contradiction.
2. I would argue that all laws are unjust since they are designed to infringe upon freedom and enforcement requires the initiation of force. However, It's an even easier argument to make that at least all malum prohibitum laws are unjust, as they are victimless. These constitute the vast majority of laws, and all cops do enforce at least some of them. The very few malum in se laws, like murder, assault, and theft; are not the primary focus of law enforcement. If you disagree, examine what crimes the majority of incarcerated people are charged with.
3. Because all cops do enforce them.
