Dick's Sporting Goods halts sales of assault-style weapons

It's kind of ironic that the first people to take sensible action to save lives are Dicks.

stopping the sale of guns to lawful buyers is neither sensible nor will it save lives

Get well regulated so we can sell you any weapon you are weapons qualified for!

Already am, I use this daily

1. There's more Dems than Republicans, more liberals than conservatives...and it seems to me that if Dick's wants to attract a larger share of the population by using free advertising, this is a great way to do it. This is what conservatives used to call the free market at work.

2. Is it somehow now a constitutional requirement that a sporting good store ALSO sell assault-style weapons?

3. And could it be that maybe, just maybe the CEO of Dick's has realized that FAR more innocent lives are taken by assault-style weapons than are saved in self-defense by assault-style weapons...and maybe he looked at his grandkids and realized that their lives are worth far more than his profits.

Make up your mind. Is it free market or 'for the kids'? Third option: strawmen.

1. They did not just stop selling guns and ammo entirely - please get your facts straight. They stopped selling assault-style weapons and high-capacity magazines, and they no longer sell firearms to those under the age of 21.

2. This may come as a shock to you, but bicycles are not designed to kill human beings. Assault-style weapons are. You - and the others here who try to use the same tired old excuse - need to remember that that's a clear violation of a logical fallacy. Your excuse is no different from saying that we should be able to legally purchase self-propelled artillery because cigarettes have killed far more people than self-propelled artillery has.

Just so you know.. its not a its not a violation of a logical fallacy.

Your excuse is no different from saying that we should be able to legally purchase self-propelled artillery because cigarettes have killed far more people than self-propelled artillery has

Exactly.. that's not a logical fallacy. IF what you are concerned with is deaths.. you should be more concerned with cigarettes.. IF they are statistically more deadly than self propelled artillery.

This is purely a marketing move and will have zero effect on safety.

I think it will hurt them overall.

I will be sure to tell them I don't appreciate their attitude toward firearms. I live in a gun friendly state.. maybe we need to have a little campaign about this.

Or that Dicks is pandering to dicks.

I got your joke if no one else did....

Dick's Sporting Goods halts sales of assault-style weapons

More power to them but it seems, to me, idiotic for a sporting goods store to alienate/piss-off a large portion of their business.

I think the title of the article should be "Dick's Sporting Goods give into people who don't buy their products". Because I doubt the people screaming for gun control ie a ban on semiautomatic firearms under the guise of an assault weapons ban actually buy semi-automatic weapons from any place that sells firearms, unless they are stupid tards who don't know what they asking for when they call for a ban on so called assault weapons .

DP has been a board in which these threads are swarmed upon for its entire 14-year existence.
It's accepted on DP that hyperbolic nonsense from the extreme end of the gun debate passes for acceptable discussion.
It is also accepted on DP that any push back to these extreme positions is in and of itself extreme moronic nonsense.

We should be proud that we are expected to comport ourselves to a higher standard.
We actually have members on DP who think the Cincinnati Rebellion within the NRA in the 1970s didn't go far enough.
This is the same Cincinnati Rebellion that gave us this proliferation of weapons of war as we now know it today.

Posting in a common-sense fashion, not attacking DP members personally, is viewed as a Weakness on our part.
History will not be kind to these members of our Regressive Era,
as compared to those in the Progressive Era 100 years ago ...

hmm.. well.. well we are trying to get those anti gun folks who are making those hyperbolic comments on the extreme end of the gun debate to come to reason.

I hope one day Nimby.. we can get you and Glen to be logical and reasoned. but I am an eternal optimist.

We are anti-weapons of war slaughtering our students, not anti-gun, but you already knew that.

Using names of posters in your post only shows just how lost militant members of the gun crowd are, and shows how the militant gun crowd is losing this debate.

I'll not repeat our common-sense approaches with our school admins at our local level, since you're not interested in common-sense ...

With mass shootings not ceasing and knowing they will continue, this will be the response. Not just from stores, but the government eventually. These types of firearms were banned for nearly a decade. Once the expiration date occurred mass shootings increased nearly 200%. Granted that comes with population inflation, but its still a telling number.

Let them defend 'legal' people owning weapons of war that are on dangerous psychotropics. Dangerous psychotropics with debilitating tendencies to commit suicide and mass murder. Especially when these dangerous psychotropics are mixed with regressive drugs like alcohol ...

you are lying, semi auto rifles sold to the public are not designed to kill people

Of course they are, stop lying already.

Must suck to know your God, DJT, is pushing for stronger background checks, more age limits on gun purchases and banning bump stocks.

so I own dozens of those rifles, have never killed or tried to kill anyone with them. So are you telling me I didn't properly use them. I don't have Gods, and I laugh at gun banners who want to ban stuff they are completely clueless about

One step at a time grasshoppa.

Do you realize that the AR is available in over 100 calibers, and not selling ammo for those means not selling ammo?

Once again: One step at a time grasshopper.

One step at a time grasshoppa.

Smart people buy theirs on line and save a few bucks, but not to worry the other major chains will be happy take more or the market.
