Where is Trumps ability to work with congress and NOT use executive orders?(LOL)?

Every deal requires at least two parties. If one party simply won't negotiate, no matter how good the other party is at making a deal, it won't happen.

This is what we've seen happen time and again when it comes to Trump trying to make a deal with Congress.

For example, when Trump was trying to get Congress to appropriate money for his wall this was Nancy's answer: "No money for a wall." Kind of hard to make a deal in this case. Trump's only choice was to use other legal means to obtain the money.

So it goes...

Great video.

IF the Democrats had been sincere about wanting certain measures, they would have spent these past three years working with President Trump.

They would have been astonished at how much they could have accomplished if they had shown respect to him, instead of announcing on the first day of his presidency that they were going to depose him one way or another.

How sad for our country that the Dems have wasted three years that could have been used for constructive legislation on the many issues that are facing this nation.

Hopefully, thoughtful voters will show their disgust with the Dems one year from now.

The same question should be asked about the people who run the current congress.

The same congress that whined when the republicans had the house and now are using the very same tactics.

Why is the current congress holding up the USMCA bill when it could help out so many farmers and other workers?

No... no... and no.....

You're talking about the author here of the "Art of the deal" man!

"With congress, you have to get everybody in a room and get them to agree"!(LOL)

"Grab'em.... hug'em .... kiss'em to get the deal done!!!(LOL)

But.... finish the story. Trump failed to acomplish that exact thing

He is the "Art of the deal", not congress

OK, sure, maybe Congress was a tough nut to crack, but look at what a great job he did negotiating a deal so Mexico would pay for the wa....

Er...never mind.

Seriously though, as anyone who has played RISK knows, the strategy for beginners is the "Scorched Earth" deal making, where you warn everybody at the table that if they attack you, you swear you won't worry about winning the game, but will focus on destroying your attacker.

That's the only strategy Trump knows, the same strategy 10 year olds use when they play their first few games of RISK. Then the 10 year olds learn to develop alliances, make deals, etc. Trump hasn't progressed that far. I suppose when daddy has hundreds of millions and bails you out every time you screw up, you never need to learn more.

What you propose is not a secret. Everyone, from the Saudis to the Russians to Kim, knows how to get what they want from Trump - kiss his ass. The aforementioned are more than happy to acquiesce. Europe and Americans, not so much. See, America has a tradition of giving the middle finger to politicians, unlike the aforementioned.

Funny how I never heard that during Trumps 2016 presidential campaign huh?

No, it's not funny. A deal presumes two parties willing to negotiate a mutually beneficial outcome.

A good sales person learns how to turns the "No's" into a yes. Trump's childish negotiating tactic is to say something ridiculous so he can work down from there. This does not work against adults.

No point, sigh, in thinking about what could have been accomplished in the past three years had the sole focus not been on "getting" Trump one way or another. My concern is that should Trump be re-elected, will this counterproductive crap stop?

Guess what...no deal.

When one party will let their people suffer rather than make a deal, there will be no deal.

Trump's approach is normal. It's practiced by sales departments everywhere. Years ago now, I decided to eliminate my cable service. They offered me several "deals" at reduced prices in an attempt to retain me as a customer. Unfortunately for them, I had already determined that I would eliminate cable service. There was no alternative deal to be had for them. There wasn't anthing wrong with their sales department at all. I simply wasn't interested in purchasing to product.

Oh god, that's hysterical! Thank you for posting the video. But first, people should be aware by now that Trump never wrote 'The Art of the Deal'. It's true, he never wrote a single word, none of it. He hired ghost-writer Tony Schwartz to write the book, with his approval of course. Tony Schwartz spent hundreds of hours with Trump at Trump Tower getting a perspective of how Trump wanted to be portrayed in 'his' book. There's probably no man that knows Trump better than Tony Schwartz.

I'm going to type the narrative of that video, word for word. Then I'll explain why it was all nothing more than NY horse crapping on a national stage. Trust me, as a near-New Yorker, I know what horse crap is. It was buffoonery and lacked any substance or actual real information as to how to 'make a deal'. This video is a pretty good snapshot as to why many people thought Trump was a business 'genius' and voted for him, and it's was nothing more than persuading them with a bunch of rambling, non-substantive rhetoric, gobbledygook double-talk.

Here is what Trump said.

"A good deal maker will make great deals but do it the way our founders thought it should be done. People get together, they make deals. Ronald Reagan did it with Tip O'Neill very successfully. You didn't hear so much about executive orders if you heard about it at all. You have to be able to get a consensus. Now, the real person, like it was mentioned about the deal with Iran... how bad a deal is that? It doesn't get any more amateurish than that. A good deal maker would never make a deal like that. With Congress, you have to get everybody together in a room, and you have to get 'em to agree. But you have to get 'em to agree to what you want. And that's part of being a deal maker. You can't leave the White House, go to Hawaii and play golf for 3 weeks and be a real deal maker, it doesn't work that way. You have to get people in, grab 'em, hug 'em, kiss 'em, and get the deal done but it's gotta be the deal that you want."

Okay, what did he actually say with all those rambling words? Where or how did he explain how to make a good deal? He said people should "get together to make deals." That's pretty obvious. "you need a consensus", yes that's obvious too. You have to "get people in a room and grab them and hug them and kiss them." No, you don't have to do that in order to reach a deal.

The other comment regarding President Obama's going to Hawaii for 3 weeks to play golf, is just snark from Trump, nothing to do with making a deal. Trump had played 2.6 times more golf than Obama in his first 2 years and 91 days and had cost the tax payer an estimated $74 million more than Obama.

Finally about 'making deals' there's logical methods to making business deals which even a college freshman student working on a BA degree knows the format and process. In order to be successful at any negotiating table, the most essential first step to gather the right people, those that are in the position of making final decisions, not second-tier people. Then, be as prepared as you can possibly be and focus on the key issues. Respect and welcome participation from all in attendance. And lastly, close the deal, finalize it.

Sounds to me that the ball is always in Trumps court(wink)

Like with Bill Clinton, everyone who voted for Trump should have known he was a unrepentant lying, draft-dodging coward. That type of personality doesn’t change. Like Clinton, everyone knew the stories of Trump’s drug use and serial sexual harassment of women. That type of personality doesn’t change. In short, in both cases, people either didn’t care and voted for them anyway or they were idiots who voted because they fell for the BS spewing from the lips of each candidate.
