Why Do You Suppose So Many Fell For Trumps "Art Of THe Deal" While Prez?

You have no idea how I voted. And you also refuse to acknowledge any of Trump's accomplishments, which is really unfair.

You ignored a lot to only respond to the voting topic. And trump has pretty much no good 'accomplishments'. There are some good things that happened while he's president; there are sine things he has not broken, and others he has. His biggest 'claims' are disasters, the tax cut for the rich and appointing more terrible Federalist Society radical Supreme Court judges, including the stolen Gorsuch seat and Kvanaugh.

The House can't get anything through the Senate and the President can't get anything through the House. That's not counterproductive. It's politics as usual.

It's both. When the Republicans are dedicated to plutocracy and against the American people, all that can be done is not let them cause harm until the people have the sense to vote them out.

I thought about it.

But I haven’t cruised the local used bookstores recently.

No way will I even consider buying or downloading a new copy.

I will not give that man my money under any circumstances!

we all do almost every weekend.

It's pretty cool, isn't it, how I get to choose what I respond to?

Do you remember James Carville's "The economy, stupid"? Do you really think that our hearty economy and dropping unemployment aren't successes for Trump?

Why is the current congress holding up the USMCA bill when it could help out so many farmers and other workers?

USMCA is barely different from NAFTA and won't really have any appreciable effect. It was all done for smoke and mirrors, so Trump could claim he change "the worst trade deal ever made" to the brand new "terrific deal".

Barely different?

1. NAFTA does not include child labor protection laws. Mexico still has over 800,000 child workers under the age of 13 depending on what source you trust.

2. NAFTA does not include the environmental protections. The USMCA does.

3. NAFTA didn't take into account of China's hugely subsidized state run businesses that can manipulate pricing......which hurt Mexican, Canadian, and US workers.

No one is moving on immigration. It’s all lip-service. What does that have to do with my post?

What started this immigration talk was that YOU said if you're against legal immigration you're a racist. Notice you were the one who brought up race? I sure did(wink)

You like all the others poo pooed(typical libertarian) the greatest immigration study ever conducted which recommended our LEGAL immigration numbers be around the 550,000(Half of whats been going on for years and still today)

Nice job(thumbs up)

About Trump? Who knows? I should've marked all that down, but nobody told me there'd be a test. None of that alters the quality of my historically best analogy, though.

I asked because Trumpster talking points have a regular habit of collapsing and amounting to nothing. Often, this is because Trump himself undermines the very themes his surrogates (and himself) are trying to promote. (Trudeau, Macron and Johnson got laughs out of that fact last week).

I have noticed that the Trump crowd doesn’t actually bother defending the latest Trump stupidity.

And Trump himself, is busy trying to play to his talk radio base with tropes on twitter. The latest one being the old hobby horse about low flush toilets.

2. NAFTA does not include the environmental protections. The USMCA does.

NAFTA already had side agreements that included labor and environmental laws. Admittedy they were poorly enforced, but USMCA did not much to improve situation either:

It includes language stating that each party would retain the right to exercise reasonable enforcement discretion and to make bona fide decisions with regard to the allocation of enforcement resources provided that the exercise of that discretion is not inconsistent with the labor obligations. It states that nothing in the labor chapter shall be construed to empower a party's authorities to undertake labor law enforcement activities in the territory of another party.

Environment: same deal:

Nothing in this Chapter shall be construed to empower a Party’s authorities to undertake environmental law enforcement activities in the territory of another Party.

Here is an example of how this works (well, does NOT work):

In practice, though, such provisions have had little effect within both NAFTA and subsequent trade agreements in addressing regulatory backsliding. Only hours after the USMCA text was released, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced their intent to significantly weaken mercury emissions applied to the U.S. coal sector.

You think Canada or Mexico are going to lift a finger under either NAFTA or USMCA about this? :lamo

3. NAFTA didn't take into account of China's hugely subsidized state run businesses that can manipulate pricing......which hurt Mexican, Canadian, and US workers.

The whole Chinese hoopla simply warns that if someone enters a free-trade agreement with another country (e.g. china), other countries are free to leave within 6 months.

But does it really matter that much? NAFTA already had a clause that allows any member to leave the pact in six months’ time for ANY reason.

What started this immigration talk was that YOU said if you're against legal immigration you're a racist. ....

LOL. That's not what I said but thanks for the deliberate twisting of my words and the lame attempt to make a false accusation.

Legal immigration is only a problem in the eyes of racists. I fully support immigration reform as a means to control illegal immigration. A wall is just for idiots.

Meanwhile, back on topic; how many people really believe Trump even wrote "the art of the deal" much less believe it?

Hang in there with this video and watch the whole thing

Where is Trumps ability to work with congress and NOT use executive orders?(LOL)?

Because Americans worship TV 'stars'. If you're on TV, you've made it. And if you've 'made it', you must be awesome in any capacity-even president.

According to his ghost writer Trump was unable to stay focused for more than a couple of minutes at a time, so he essentially made the whole thing up, not being able to get anything remotely coherent from Trump-except his tedious, ceaseless bragging about how amazing he was.

Why bother defending Trump when we have brain dead, wall to wall coveragr of leftist insanity on display in the House in a near daily basis? You folks are busy trying to distract rhe public with that flea circus in the hope that no one will notice your 2020 candidates and the history of the current House session, with no proposed legislation a four year old would consider worthy of even a glance. One doesn't need to be a Trump supporter to notice the bankruptcy of the political left. You guys push your lower jaw forward and put it on display daily.

Ask US farmers about 'bankruptcy' and see how they feel about Trump's policies-in particular his failed trade war with China, now extended to Europe. I'm sure you'll get a sympathetic hearing.

A lack of focus would also help explain Trump's Adderall addiction....which doesn't seem to be working as well as he hopes. Adderall addiction also explains his dilated eyes and frequent manic personality when speaking at his rallies or elsewhere.

I'm surrounded by farmers. They support Trump. I'm sure that some farmers have suffered with the trade dispite. Culling out the weak is a natural phenomenon, and farm businesses are no different, as business goes, from any other business.

They were doing just fine until Trump began his failed trade war, and now many are not able to sell to their biggest and most reliable market-China, and it has nothing at all to do with strength or weakness. Why have farm bankruptcies suddenly risen by 24%: because of Trump's 'winning' strategy? These are the people who feed you.
Your governor disagrees, by the way...

Trump's trade war has devastated farmers, Gov. Northam says

Heh. I'm quite capable of feeding myself, and others. You likely are not.

The lack of an ability in business to diversify and to adapt to changing marlets claims many victims. The commodities marlet is notoriously volitile as well. China will have to be dragged, kicking and screaming, into a fair trade agreement with the US, and it affects far, far more than just US farmers. You, living where you do, appear to have little understanding of the breadth of negative influence China's trade policies have here in the US. China only understands economic force in these matters. The potential gain for us far outweighs the temporary hit some farmers may experience.

What is a soybean farmer supposed to diversify into? Quit making pathetic excuses for the real damage Trump has done.

The ground has been known to yeild more than just soybeans. You may have noticed, but it would be surprising that you would.

I've offered sound business policy, and so far you're just bleating about soybean farmers. I'm talking about an entire nation of over 330 million people here, and you're whining about a very small subset of it. Don't run around acting as if you've made a significant point. You haven't.

That "very small subset" consists of the people who feed you. Dairy is being negatively affected also. Trump is hurting those who deserve it least, and yet here you are making glib platitudes about diversifying. Tell me, what does a farmer in the middle of nowhere diversify into? How long do you think soil which has been optimised for soybean production will take to be optimised for alternate crop production?

Every deal requires at least two parties. If one party simply won't negotiate, no matter how good the other party is at making a deal, it won't happen.

Yeah, see this statement made since 8 years ago under Obama, but if Republicans weren't willing to work with Obama under any circumstances why on earth should Democrats work with the current piece of **** in the white house on anything. What goes around comes around.

Of course the difference here is that Republicans refused to work with Obama because they're stupid ****ing bigots. Democrats refuse to work with Trump because he's a stupid ****ing bigot. In either case, the Bigot is the problem.

In other words...

"Why can't Trump make a deal with you?"

"Because I won't make a deal with him."

"Why won't you make a deal with him?"

"Because I don't like him."

Don't presume to lecture me about farming, and can the "your food" schtick. Nobody is starving here. Farmers have bad years without fluctuating markets. It's hardly new. This years hay crop is seriously short due to adverse weather. So those farmers who make the bulk of their income producing hay may have serious problems. That stuff thoughtlessly refuses to grow during the winter. Meat prices will go up as a result. Should we blame the weather, a failure to grow more than just hay grasses, or what?

While you resolutely focus on the end of your nose, some of us prefer taking in a more expansive view. We have some sense, and an appreciation of scale you lack. We have individual states here that produce more than your entire country.
