US school shooting: Police investigate Marylan

From the article, “According reports, the attacker was shot by a school security officer.”

So a good guy with a gun prevented a mass school shooting.

Awesome.

Apparently you still haven't fixed your reading comprehension defect.

I'm thrilled nobody died, you simple jackass. You are the one calling it a "win."

This is apparently a political competition in your mind.

It's a WIN for the kids!!!
How does his statement make this a political competition?

Nobody died. Get a grip! You sound like you're disappointed that there isn't a body count.

The shooter was pronounced dead at 10:41 a.m today.

This was handgun against handgun, the cop was not outgunned. I am ok banning all assault rifles, all semi auto's except .22 rimfire, if that is what it takes to keep people safe.

If you advocate "hardening the schools" and putting more guns in there, sick kids who want to do this will take note. You have to go in better armed, and buy a bullet proof vest. The vest will stop the resource officers 9mm or .40, but if the cop has a bullet proof vest, it won't stop your .223 from your AR-15. You stand a much better chance of killing a lot of people when you have to cops outgunned.

Kids will learn from this experience. They'll "arm up".

Too bad. We can learn alot from them alive.

I hope that his social media and interviews with friends and relatives will reveal more about his personality, issues, access to firearms, etc.

Yes, a mass shooting was prevented. Not a shooting prevented, but a mass shooting.

The MSN will give this 1-2 news cycles, and then it will disappear since it doesn't fit the narrative and they don't want to disabuse anyone of the notion that hardening schools and looking at the "why" of school shootings matters, so close to the "March For Our Lives", which is meant first and foremost to secure Democratic voters and anti-gun advocates.
You mean like serial bomber terrorizing texans. Its not a gun so its barely worth covering beyond an obligatory mention so they claim they didnt ignore it.

I don't argue that the "left" has an agenda when it comes to gun control. I don't go along with it. I think it's foolish. I have not seen the "left's" response to this shooting. What I have seen, in this thread, is right wingers making this all about political victory points and poking at liberals.

The rest of your Norma Rae/Abbey Hoffman stuff is of no interest to me because it has no bearing on the thread subject.

Seems like you'd like it both ways. You'd like to accuse the Right of using this shooting as some political "victory", yet, you also seem to wish to downplay and deflect away the fact that the Left has conferred rock-star status, wisdom, expertise and a profound understanding of our constitution to high school children who came by these prodigious talents and status by way of being recent victims who suffered severe psychological trauma after a long-standing and well-known-to-police-healthcare professionals and school administration problem minor (criminal) killed fellow students and teachers at their school.

The pot/kettle analogy couldn't possibly by more apt.

Yea.....gun nuts will jump all over that in some kind of vindication parade. What an extremely sad set of circumstances that push the need for armed guards on a school campus.

Perhaps then we should examine the set of circumstances that caused this student to decide to kill fellow students?

Naw... its got to be the gun... Lets see.. this kid probably used a handgun. Lets see.. then we must ban assault weapons.. will be the cry.

The story narrative got a bit unhelpful for the Leftist MSM when the bomber seemingly wanted to make it clear that "no", this isn't about targeting minorities/hispanics/POC, and set up a few more bombs which could have injured or killed ANYBODY.
Oops, there goes the opportunity to pin this on Trump.

once again this could have been prevented but inaction by the school allowed it.
they supposedly investigated threats against the school then deemed them not a threat.

seriously?

when are these idiots in education going to step up to the plate and take responsibility.

I'll be shocked if we don't find out this shooter was known to school administration, if not police. Known to be "troubled" or a "loner". Prescription meds won't surprise me either.

When we as a society decide to hold people responsible for their actions.. not inanimate objects

When we as a society are willing to spend money on real solutions rather than on inexpensive and ineffective actions.

David Dennison is the first 'president' who should not be held accountable for anything that happens on his watch.

We already know how scurrilous gops would have acted towards a Democratic President
if anything Dennison has done would have happened under BHO or WJC ...

i am all for censoring free speech
denying due process and allowing the police to storm in any house
they want as long as it keeps people safe.

you might want to reconsider your logic of limiting the rights of people.

what other rights can we just get rid of as long as it keeps people safe?

that is the flip side of freedom. you accept certain risks with that freedom.

these people do have an MO that they follow.

usually non-social
usually on some kind of anti-depressant etc ...

No, he didn't prevent it. He responded to and stopped a mass school shooting in progress.

Nope, to be a mass shooting requires a higher victim count. The (student) shooter shot two students and the SRO shot the shooter preventing it from becoming a mass shooting event.

Actually a level three bullet proof vest will stop a .223. .

You really don't know what you are talking about.

No mention of the type of gun the shooter in Maryland used.

Yep, no mention of details about either gun used in that gunfight. That is likely because neither were scary black rifles.

Three victims and the shooter wounded. Nobody dead, thank goodness.

Becoming a regular occurrence it seems.

No, there is one dead, the shooter, thank goodness.

Yes there is something very odd going on, guns have absoltely nothing to do with it. Children are deciding to commit murder, a gun is a good tool to use to do it but its the decision to kill that is so odd

I was raised in a urban school where nearly every kid owned a rifle from age 12 and a few had pistols too, all legally.

Know one ever heard of a "school shooting" anywhere at anytime.

Kids would never consider murder in those days, we worked our issues out in fist fights if words were not enough. The idea that anyone would become a "murderer" to settle a score was unthinkable.

We need to do some forensics on the psyches of these young male killers and determine what is causing so many of them to accept murder as a cure to their issues.

It's not about "vindication." It's about what it takes to stop a shooter. We'll never know how many lives were saved today. But we know that somewhere out there -- there's a guy who ran toward the shooting -- instead of away from it and he had to make the very sad decision to shoot a child because he couldn't take a chance of others being killed.

No, I wasn't arguing semantics. The people declaring I was wrong about what classifies a mass shooting (body count) were arguing semantics.

My point was, the SRO didn't prevent the shooting. It was in response to the moral victory right wingers are declaring - because apparently the shooting itself isn't as important as the opportunity to take a victory lap for their cause.

Hmm... how is the SRO expected to shoot someone that is not an active shooter?

There may be a one in many millions of a chance that the SRO would be able to spot an impending shooting (gun brandished but not yet fired) but managing to respond and take out the shooter after claiming only two victims is pretty damned impressive.

This is so important to emphasize, so if I may add onto your post with my thoughts about being very clear in language and definition.
When the likes of Everytown inflates school shooting numbers to inflame passions and mislead people into thinking that the numbers are higher than they really are, we should strive to communicate clearly.
