Trump Ruined My Vacation to Cuba

Where do you draw a line between freedom and safety? After the recent use of acoustic weapons in Cuba in is understandable why travel may be restricted. Same way you can't travel ti North Korea just be cause you want to.

Up until a couple months ago you could travel to North Korea just because you wanted to. I can, and do, travel to places like Iraq and Afghanistan all the time and the US government doesn't prohibit it.

I don't care how dangerous a place is, the government has no business telling me where I can and can't go, especially when it is outside of US borders.

Again, am I not a free man living in a free country? Why can't I go wherever I want?

I don't want to join an educational tour. Why do I have to lie? Why do I have to pay some tour extra money to continue a charade? Where's my freedom?

You can travel to Cuba if you want to, but you will do so illegally if you violate the current U.S. law that is in place--a law that President Trump had nothing to do with. Such laws restricting travel are in place for national security, humanitarian, and/or personal safety reasons.

Why ignore my posts?

you can still go man, you just cant stay at certain hotels affiliated with the gov or the military.

That only applies for one of the US consulates, not the entire country...

That isn't what the Portugal embassy says:

NO VISA IS NECESSARY if you are a U.S. citizen and will be traveling to Portugal for up to 90 days. However, you will need a valid U.S. passport for at least 6 months from the date of planned return or other travel document recognized by member States of the Schengen Agreement.

I have some friends who were just there, no problems.

Trump has everything to do with this. Obama allowed us to go to Cuba if we wanted to. It's a freedom I had under Obama. Now Trump has taken that freedom away from me. Now you claim Trump has nothing to do with it? Really?

Republicans believe coddling the old Cubans in Florida help keep it red but the young Cubans are not the same.

The young Cubans don't know what the Old Cubans had to deal with under Fidel and his bastard brother. In other words, they're ignorant.

An associate told me he had a great time in Cuba and I should go. I was planning to go on vacation with a friend for 4 days in Cuba. They have great food and musicians there. Then this...

Trump tightens limits on personal travel, business ties to Cuba

Let me get this straight: We're the land of the free but I don't have the freedom to visit Cuba? What kind of freedom is that?

This is what I hate about Republicans. Their claims about being the party of "freedom" is total BS. I guess I can travel to Saudi Arabia and China but not Cuba? Why? WTF?!

I repeat, Libertarian who support Donald Trump are NOT libertarians.

You still can go...

book with Canadian travel agency!

you should have not problem going (Cubans love Americans and love tourism money). But know that cuba is fairly poor country and so you are visiting 3rd class version of Caribbean countries. Food is great and cheap, people are awesome and country is safe no matter where you go

Dude, it's not like Americans are banned from travel to any country. There are dozens (if not hundreds) of places to vacation. You're making it sound like Trump himself is holding you down like a schoolyard bully.

If the Hildabeast had won last year, and did the exact same thing, $50 says you wouldn't care.

I'm just glad your side is out there defending our constitutional freedoms.

How did you feel about all our Olympic Athletes who made years of sacrifice-time, effort and money to make the olympics only to have Jimmy Asshole Carter screw them out of that opportunity so that scumbag could pretend he was DOING SOMETHING about the soviets in Afghanistan ?

So the constitution gives you the right to travel to Cuba? Or any country?

In all seriousness I would like to know where why and how you came to that conclusion

I feel your pain and understand your resentment and disappointment. We all, though, should know more about how this gvmt operates. I don’t know much, but this I do know. The gvmt stifles new businesses, as a probably poor example. Want to open a bakery? “No, sorry, we already have three here. No license for you.” I also know that the gvmt pays terrible wages. Doctors, for instance, can make more working at one of those three bakeries than they can practicing medicine.... and all doc employment is under gvmt control.

Are these terrible? No, of course not. But there are many more reasons why I can see not welcoming them with open arms. Is it safe there? I don’t know. Remember, it’s all good til it’s not.

I am sorry your trip was spoiled, though, for sure.

Go there. We met many Americans in Cuba- mostly they'd gone through Mexico. One couple through Jamaica.
My advice? A couple nights in Havana then rent a car and hit the road. Look for paladares, look for casas particulaire, talk to the people, you'll have a great trip.

I meant to say the consulate was closed in regards to the immigration services they were once offering, but yes, in pretty much anywhere in the EU a US citizen doesnt need a visa.

Such a sucker for fake news.

https://www.state.gov/e/eb/tfs/spi/cuba/cubarestrictedlist/275331.htm

"Below is the U.S. Department of State’s list of entities and subentities under the control of, or acting for or on behalf of, the Cuban military, intelligence, or security services or personnel with which direct financial transactions would disproportionately benefit such services or personnel at the expense of the Cuban people or private enterprise in Cuba. "

You can still go to cuba, you cant go to these places that directly benefit the regime.

Were you plannin on doing business with the gov and militaray over there?

This is most likely a response to the sonic attacks on our personel in the country.

It also lists nearly every hotel in Cuba.
