Why I give Trump a solid "A" grade on his coronavirus response

,
It is fair to call out the 'dead weight' he is encumbered with.
It is also fair to call out the little else but hostile and dishonest treatment he's received from the press.

I think calling him a Great Man is a bit over the top. He has plenty of faults and foibles which take away from his potential greatness, at least in my view.

Trump does have a 'connection' with non-elitist and non-leftists that the elitists and leftists simply cannot fathom or comprehend, much to their continued frustrations.

He brought all his dead weight with him. He has assembled a whole collection of bag men, yes men and wannabes around him. They’re his type of people. No one will clutter his simple television addled mind with an inconvenient fact or thought. All will harumph on demand. (We’ve watched that embarrassing spectacle at cabinet meetings).

Bellowing, hugging a convenient flag, name calling and bluster are what makes a great leader to some.

BTW, I clicked your 10 worst US media failures on the Trump/Russia story just to see.

Eight of them were true (not necessarily in specific detail).

Two happened before Trump was elected, and were not linked to Trump.

I’m sure that Trump will fill two and a half hours of Fox time with nonsense and bluster again today. I don’t now if you’ll be sitting in front of your TV entranced. I won’t be.

We sometimes give too much credit to doctors. Trump is a social scientist. He knows how to lead. You don't have to be a mechanic to lead an automobile company. You don't have to be a cook to lead a restaurant.

"We sometimes give too much credit to doctors. Trump is a social scientist."

Funniest thing I have read all day.

“So last year 37,000 Americans died from the common Flu. It averages between 27,000 and 70,000 per year. Nothing is shut down, life & the economy go on. At this moment there are 546 confirmed cases of CoronaVirus, with 22 deaths. Think about that!”

“We have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China. We have it under control. It’s going to be just fine.”

“And again, when you have 15 people, and the 15 within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero, that’s a pretty good job we’ve done.”

“The Coronavirus is very much under control in the USA. We are in contact with everyone and all relevant countries. CDC & World Health have been working hard and very smart. Stock Market starting to look very good to me!”

“The Fake News Media and their partner, the Democrat Party, is doing everything within its semi-considerable power ... to inflame the CoronaVirus situation.”

“It’s going to disappear. One day — it’s like a miracle — it will disappear.”

The virus is dying. The weather is getting warmer. We are going back to normal in May.

The virus is dying. The weather is getting warmer. We are going back to normal in May.

Trump:
“Now, the virus that we’re talking about having to do — you know, a lot of people think that goes away in April with the heat — as the heat comes in. Typically, that will go away in April. We’re in great shape though. We have 12 cases — 11 cases, and many of them are in good shape now.”

“There’s a theory that, in April, when it gets warm — historically, that has been able to kill the virus. So we don’t know yet; we’re not sure yet. But that’s around the corner.”

Facts:
"There is some evidence to suggest that [coronavirus] may transmit less efficiently in environments with higher ambient temperature and humidity; however, given the lack of host immunity globally, this reduction in transmission efficiency may not lead to a significant reduction in disease spread without the concomitant adoption of major public health interventions,"

"a study of the outbreak in China showed that even under maximum temperature and humidity conditions, the virus spread "exponentially," with every infected person spreading it to nearly two other people on average."
Prestigious scientific panel tells Trump coronavirus won't go away with warmer weather - CNN

I give Trump a solid "A" grade on his coronavirus response. I give the media an "F" grade. The media needs to realize they are suppose to represent us even Trump supporters. We’re all in this together, or are we???

Why Trump gets an A:

  • He has stepped away from the spotlight and given the two expert doctors a large platform to discuss the virus. Yes, Trump is not a doctor but being a doctor does not make one qualified in itself. Is Trump less qualified to speak about this, for example, compared to Rand Paul or Ben Carson? As Albert Einstein once said, “I don’t need to know everything, I just need to know where to find it, when I need it.”

  • Stopped flights from China and Europe early on. That showed decisive leadership

  • Tackled the problem early. Many Democrats/members of the media called Trump's policies xenophobic and hysterical. Boy, they were wrong.

  • Unlike previous presidents, he was able to work well with Congress. He negotiated with Democrats which led to a Stimulus Bill. Received praise from Democrats like Gavin Newsom, Andrew Cuomo, and Ilhan Omar for his prompt response.

  • Comes across as very measured. He did not cause Americans to panic or support policies that would attack our individual civil liberties and rights. He could have easily caved and put this country on a national lockdown or something even more drastic like suspending all domestic flights or putting certain states on quarantine, which would have been illegal and unconstitutional. That could have led to chaos or riots on the street.

Bueno Trump! Mission almost accomplished! We avoided a near disaster!

Satire?

Trump is not an alpha by any means.

I assume you have watched his press briefings? Because this here is nonsense, when someone asks the doctors a question he doesn't want answered, he steps in and prevents the answer being given. He keeps giving advice rather than letting the doctors give that advice, "because he knows a lot about this". :lamo

I am not sure why doctors are getting such a platform. You would be surprised how little doctors know.

Many people are listening to what Bill Gates has to say about this subject matter. Bill Gates is not a doctor, didn't even go to medical school. What makes him an expert on disease?

Just look at the dead weight he has to pull all day everyday....Almost no one else in America can do what Trump does....he is one of the last of a breed....the Great Men.

No kidding. He could stand to lose more than a few pounds.

According to whom?

Many credible people say we will go back to normal in May.

No, Trump and Hannity are not credible.

Credible people have been saying that was not true all along.

Weak me apologize for something they did not do.

Leaders take responsibility.

Trump does not. And never has. And never will. He announced that to the world.

In a crisis, the leader does not say “it’s not my fault” (even if it isn’t).

A leader doesn’t have to.

A leader leads, and deals with the recriminations later.

But Trump started by doing nothing, advocated for you to do nothing, floated conspiracy theories, promoted dubious unproven cures, and refused to take responsibility.

He had to be dragooned into declaring a State of Emergency in the first place.

He has to be dragooned into extending it.

And he whined, cried, blustered and lied all the way through it, and continues to do so.
And now, he has the noise machine declaring premature victory (after moving the goalposts to promote the fake narrative that Trump’s belated actions (including the ones he never took at all).

Trump is one of the Great Men....he drives himself to be the best at what ever he decides to do....he drives himself to not waste this life as so many now do.. They who spin their wheels getting nothing important done....even worse they who demand to be carried by the rest of us.

This guy is ALL IN.

I'll take the ding from the mods. But you are an idiot. You spout idiotic things every day. I sometimes wonder if you do this simply to "own the libs".

Insane historical revision going on by people out.

January 22: “We have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China. It’s going to be just fine.”

February 2: “We pretty much shut it down coming in from China.”

February 24: “The Coronavirus is very much under control in the USA… Stock Market starting to look very good to me!”

February 25: “CDC and my Administration are doing a GREAT job of handling Coronavirus.”

February 25: “I think that's a problem that’s going to go away… They have studied it. They know very much. In fact, we’re very close to a vaccine.”

February 26: “The 15 (cases in the US) within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero.”

February 26: “We're going very substantially down, not up.”

February 27: “One day it’s like a miracle, it will disappear.”

February 28: “We're ordering a lot of supplies. We're ordering a lot of, uh, elements that frankly we wouldn't be ordering unless it was something like this. But we're ordering a lot of different elements of medical.”

February 28: “Now the Democrats are politicizing the coronavirus, you know that, right? Coronavirus, they’re politicizing it. We did one of the great jobs. You say, ‘How’s President Trump doing?’ They go, ‘Oh, not good, not good.’ They have no clue. They don’t have any clue. They can’t even count their votes in Iowa.” “They tried the impeachment hoax. That was on a perfect conversation. They tried anything. They tried it over and over. They’d been doing it since you got in. It’s all turning. They lost. It’s all turning. Think of it. Think of it. And this is their new hoax.”

March 2: “You take a solid flu vaccine, you don't think that could have an impact, or much of an impact, on corona?”

March 2: “A lot of things are happening, a lot of very exciting things are happening and they’re happening very rapidly.”

March 4: “If we have thousands or hundreds of thousands of people that get better just by, you know, sitting around and even going to work — some of them go to work, but they get better.”

March 5: “I NEVER said people that are feeling sick should go to work.”

March 5: “The United States… has, as of now, only 129 cases… and 11 deaths. We are working very hard to keep these numbers as low as possible!”

March 6: “I think we’re doing a really good job in this country at keeping it down… a tremendous job at keeping it down.”

March 6: “Anybody right now, and yesterday, anybody that needs a test gets a test. They’re there. And the tests are beautiful…. the tests are all perfect like the letter was perfect. The transcription was perfect. Right? This was not as perfect as that but pretty good.”

March 6: “I like this stuff. I really get it. People are surprised that I understand it… Every one of these doctors said, ‘How do you know so much about this?’ Maybe I have a natural ability. Maybe I should have done that instead of running for president.”

March 6: “I don't need to have the numbers double because of one ship that wasn't our fault.”

March 8: “We have a perfectly coordinated and fine tuned plan at the White House for our attack on CoronaVirus.”

March 9: “This blindsided the world.”

Edit: March 9: "The Fake News Media and their partner, the Democrat Party, is doing everything within its semi-considerable power (it used to be greater!) to inflame the CoronaVirus situation, far beyond what the facts would warrant.”

March 10: "It will go away. Just stay calm. It will go away."

March 13: National Emergency Declaration

March 13: “I don't take responsibility at all”

March 15: "TODAY IS A NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER. GOD BLESS EVERYONE!"

March 16: "I give myself a 10 out of 10"

March 16: “I’ve always known this is a, this is a real, this is a pandemic, I’ve felt it was a pandemic long before it was called a pandemic” source

March 17: "It snuck up on us." source

March 22: “It is absolutely critical that Americans continue to follow the federal government’s guidelines. So important about social distancing, non-essential travel, and hand-washing.”

March 23: Democratic concerns have focused on a $500 billion funding program Republicans want to create for loans and loan guarantees, with some Democrats calling it a “slush fund” that lacks any oversight because the Treasury Department would have broad discretion over who receives the money. Asked about this Monday evening, Trump responded, “I’ll be the oversight.” The vote Monday was 49 to 46, well short of the 60-vote threshold needed to advance the legislation for a final debate.

March 24: “THE CURE CANNOT BE WORSE (by far) THAN THE PROBLEM!”

Today April 9th: We're going to hit 1/2 million confirmed causes with untold numbers of unconfirmed cases in a few days. We have 15,000 deaths and counting.

He is taking measured steps and dealing with a difficult decision - saving lives vs saving the economy. Putting this economy into a great depression will cause more lives lost than the coronavirus. If we extend this stay-in shelter for a few more months we are going to have riots on the street, possibly have to call in the military to control riots.

People think we can just shut this economy down for 2-3 months and everything will return back to normal.

Well said and the public appreciates Trump. We never expected the authoritative Democrats to accept him and they don't matter.

Very true. SOME do appreciate Trump's handling of the Corona Virus and some can even be found on this thread.

But MOST of the public do NOT approve of his handling of the Corona Virus.

What I'm trying to figure out now is, are the majority of Americans dumb-asses or are the minority of Americans dumbasses?

Thoughts?

People have no issue blaming trump when things go bad (even when it is not his fault) but refuse to give him credit when things go right.

Trump is the QB of America. He deserves credit when it is due.

Trump actually has experts on staff handling the virus. And Trump merely discusses it daily. I count it a blessing he addresses it daily.

Those wasting time blaming Trump have the same IQ as a turnip has.

Oh really? Which ones, and what exactly did they say?

Within hours of President Trump's decision to restrict travel from China on Jan. 31, top Democrats and media figures immediately derided the move as unnecessary and xenophobic -- and they are now beating a hasty retreat from that position as the coronavirus continues to ravage the economy and cause scores of deaths.

Democratic presidential contender Joe Biden led the way, quickly attacking what he called Trump's "record of hysteria, xenophobia and fear-mongering" after the travel restrictions were announced, and arguing that Trump "is the worst possible person to lead our country through a global health emergency." Biden, on Wednesday, didn't criticize the travel ban in any way, and instead accused Trump of "downplaying" the virus early on in remarks to Fox News.

"I had Biden calling me xenophobic," Trump told Fox News' "Hannity" on March 26. "He called me a racist, because of the fact that he felt it was a racist thing to stop people from China coming in."

In March, another Democratic presidential candidate, Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., conspicuously insisted at a Fox News town hall that he wouldn't consider closing the U.S. border to prevent the spread of coronavirus, before condemning what he called the president's xenophobia. The Vermont senator has since taken to promoting "Medicare-for-All" and workers' rights amid the outbreak, while deferring to health experts on border closings.

For many news outlets, the about-face has been stark. A Jan. 31 article in The New York Times quoted epidemiologist Dr. Michael Osterholm as saying that Trump's decision to restrict travel from China was "more of an emotional or political reaction."

Weeks later, though, the paper reported that dozens of "nations across the world have imposed travel restrictions to curb the spread of the coronavirus," and did not criticize any of them for the move.

Oh really? Which ones, and what exactly did they say?

1. The Heritage Foundation's Lyndsey Fifield identified numerous other instances of prominent media outlets criticizing the travel ban, in many cases without issuing any kind of correction. For example, The Verge cautioned that Trump's policies "contradict advice from the World Health Organization (WHO), which said yesterday that countries should not restrict travel or trade in their response to the new virus."

2. BuzzFeed News asserted that "barring foreign travelers from China, along with making U.S. citizens self-quarantine at home ... likely violated civil rights laws, without leading to any real lowered risk of a U.S. outbreak," citing "global health law expert" Lawrence Gostin of Georgetown University.

3. STAT, a health and medicine news site, reported that the travel ban was similar to calls from "conservative lawmakers and far-right supporters of the president," even as "public health experts ... warn that the move could do more harm than good."

4. A week earlier, Vox confidently declared that "The evidence on travel bans for diseases like coronavirus is clear: They don’t work." The article originally referred to the "Wuhan coronavirus" in its headline, before left-wing journalists and Democrats argued that terminology was racist.

Vox also tweeted on Jan. 31: "Is this going to be a deadly pandemic? No." On Mar. 24, Vox deleted that tweet, writing that it "no longer reflects the current reality of the coronavirus story."
