A British family on vacation accidentally drove into the U.S. They’ve spent days detained with their

They lied to Federal agents. That's a felony.

Unless you're an elected or appointed federal official. In that case, you're eligible for a national commendation, at least an Attaboy in your personnel file.

Hillary can lie OK, but Martha goes to prison for it.

You left out Democrat.

It works both ways. The only difference between Donkey and Elephant is the spelling of the name.

Donkphant?

What's the big deal? They came into the country illegally and were arrested. We arrest illegal immigrants all the time.

Do you think they deserved special treatment?

You can always immigrate, if you hate us so much.

This is stupid. The fact that they CLEARLY had no intention of staying (no luggage, no destination), they should have be warned and sent back across the border. Absolutely stupid.

The second best one at that...

The first Bond was American.

Barry Nelson, the first actor to play James Bond onscreen in the 1954 production of Casino Royale, has died aged 89....

Barry Nelson, an MGM contract player during the 1940s who later had a prolific theater career and was the first actor to play James Bond on screen, has died. He was 89. Nelson died on April 7th 2007 while traveling in Bucks County, Pa., his wife, Nansi Nelson, said Friday. The cause of death was not immediately known, she said. Nelson is survived by his wife. He did not have any children.

Contrary to popular belief, the honour of being the first actor to play James Bond fell not on Sean Connery, but on American Barry Nelson, who starred in a live one-hour production of Ian Fleming's Casino Royale. The performance on 21st October 1954 (8.30pm EST) was the first in CBS's 'Climax' series of dramas. CBS brought the rights for Fleming's first book for $1000. Nelson played James Bond as an American named "card sense" Jimmy Bond; the program also featured Peter Lorre as the primary villain. Originally broadcast live, the production was believed lost to time until a kinescope emerged in the 1980s. It was subsequently released to home video, and is currently available on DVD as a bonus feature with the 1967 film adaptation of the novel.

Seriously? Because they came from Canada, were admitted to Canada, and without legal permission to enter the US it’s only obvious they would return them to the country they came from which they had legal entry to.

Yes, seriously. They were tourists in Canada. Does the United States rescue random tourists from Canadian custody just because they entered through the United States? Who does that?

As stated in the article. When Canada refused to let them enter, they then contacted the U.K. Twice.

And you believe that?

Canada is still part of the commonwealth. Queen Elizabeth II is still their monarch.

Yes, but their legal nationalities are separate and distinct. They allow dual citizenship, but members of the commonwealth are not automatically British citizens at birth and vice versa. It’s not an empire anymore and the Queen is little more than a figurehead relic outside of the U.K.

Can you provide evidence that it isn't true?

Their story is so far fetched that it's rather peculiar anyone would accept it at face value, from some "animal" causing them to go off the beaten path (for how long? why not turn around?), to insisting an actual road that crosses the border is not clearly marked (that's the biggest joke of all here) to the excessive exaggeration about facility conditions.

Ya think that maybe these folks were crossing the border illegally?

I sure do.

I don't know how far from the border you live but there's lots of places where the only marker is a little, 4 foot aluminum Indian with Canada engraved on one side and United States on the other. It would be very easy to drive past it unnoticed- in fact, I only saw it because I was walking. In the town where I grew up there's miles of road, 0 Avenue in Surrey, BC, where you can walk across the street in Canada, cross a grass verge maybe10 feet and be standing on a residential street in Watcom County, Washington.
If you want to see how easy it could be to cross the border by mistake just Google Earth the border where it starts at Boundary Bay in the west and follow it.

I'll remember that if another national is legally visiting Mexico and happens to cross into the US, intentional or not, and Mexico doesn't want them back and their country doesn't answer, the logical thing will be to fly them further into our country, house them (including an infant) for hundreds of dollars per person per day at a detention center that was recommended by the state to be shut down, and take their time figuring out what to do with them.

I would say turning them back around and monitoring the area for awhile might make a little more sense and save a ton of money and the hassle of all the government time and paperwork while not exposing an infant to be locked up in a questionable detention center but I'm the crazy one.

I don't doubt the veracity of your comment, but did you really buy the whole "an animal forced us to detour" malarkey? Are you buying this woman's utterly dystopian exaggerations, if not outright fabrications?

I have to admit that after I posted this, the whole 'swerved to avoid an animal' thing started to niggle at the back of my mind. That does indeed sound a little dodgy.

Yup. That was the first clue, lol.

I just read an article that says the Brits intentionally drove across a ditch to get into the US, we re denied reentry by Canada and that CBP couldn't reach the British embassy. I have no idea if any of those allegations have been verified but the Hot Air article cites a WaPo piece that's behind a paywall.

That British family of border jumpers was probably more than they seemed

Maybe the WaPo has more information.

First off, I apologize for the bizarre spell-check edit in the post you replied to. I wrote "obelisk" and somehow "indian" appeared in the post.
I've read since that they drove across the grass verge I described on 0 Avenue in Surrey. Hard to see how you could do that by accident. The first reports I read said they had swerved onto a side road, which is a whole different thing. If that's what happened, if they drove across the grass divider onto the American street, they probably were goofing around, maybe making a cell-phone video to have something to brag about later. And, if that's what happened, it was just a dumb move.

Do you know how big those mooses are? :lamo
Anyway we got more to the story. They were probably in a rush.

I read that too. Probably, if that's what happened, it happened on that street I described, 0 Avenue in Surrey.
And, if they did that, it was a dumb thing to do. Especially nowadays. Used to be different but there's not much sense-of-humour along that border anymore.

Should they have left their baby at the airport instead? Where did you leave your children when you went out for a drive?

Um, on a joy ride to nowhere? Detoured by a Yeti?
I can't believe anyone is gullible to fall for this woman's story!
