Trump to 'sign executive order about social media

Wonder how long President Trump could go without Twitter? How would he get his rants out.

I have to admit I don't follow his "tweets" except when it is brought up in the news or here on DP. President Trump does seem to get facts wrong on issues he does not agree with. Like mail in voting. So I would not miss his "tweets". Let the site go silent for awhile. See how he likes it.

If another politician, let's say Biden, were to post something so ridiculous, then yes, absolutely -- I'm convinced Twitter would add a notice for readers not to accept that tweet as fact.

Am I understanding you correctly? If I get on twitter and start spreading lies like, "I heard trump has the clap" and twitter steps in and says, check this for factual accuracy, twitter should now be responsible for everything on its site? So basically your argument is spreading lies is ok, saying check for factual accuracy isn't. You are arguing these platforms should be used for propaganda and lies and it's up to the user to find the truth. What a warped way of protecting the first amendment.

There's only one US president. Does that mean they're only going to "fact-check" (aka add negative spin to) Trump's tweets? Yeah, no bias there.

230 protects content platforms from liability for third party postings but in this case Twitter is the one making the posting and I'm not so sure that's protected under the rule.

Trump's normal MO is to use bullying tactics to get what he wants. Now he's using government power to apply those bullying tactics. Tis sad.

Yes but there could be a silver lining to this sh** cloud. The republicans are not looking so good this fall. I always thought Trump would take the party down with him. The mystery is why can't the senators see that?
 
Make no mistake: Trump and his supporters are authoritarians and they will suppress dissent to maintain Trump's power using any means at their disposal.

They will not stop trying to destroy our Republic so it is extremely Trump and Trumpism are defeated this November.

And I'll say it, and I don't think we need to beat around the bush anymore, and you can take Godwin's law and shove it up Trump's arse: Trump is like Hitler, and Trump's supporters are like Hitler's supporters.

Don’t worry about it.

The President does not have the power to regulate speech, or to nullify the First Amendment.

This is just Trump thumping his chest, playing to his victim mentality, and diddling his base. After all, the Limbaughlooney crowd buys all this BS.

Yeah, but the Trumpeteers, Cultists, and Loyalists will all jump on board claiming that this is just and Trump has the authority.

I've never seen such excuses for the gross expansion of government power against the rights and liberties of the People. They'll seemingly excuse anything for Dear Leader.
