[h=1]Democrats Formally Seek Six Years of Trump Tax Returns From IRS[/h]https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-04-03/democrats-formally-seek-six-years-of-trump-tax-returns-from-irs via @bpolitics
House Democrats on Wednesday formally demanded that the IRS turn over six years of personal and business tax returns for President Donald Trump, setting the stage for a clash with the White House and in the courts.
Ways and Means Chairman Richard Neal sent a letter to Internal Revenue Service Commissioner Charles Rettig, citing Congress’s oversight responsibility to review the president’s business activities before and during his first term.
“We must obtain President Trump’s tax returns and review whether the IRS is carrying out its responsibilities,” Neal said. “The committee has a duty to examine whether congressional action may be needed to require such audits, and to oversee that they are conducted properly.”

Six years of tax returns are being requested, even though tax returns are subject to IRS audit going back ten years in time, six years is the statute of limitations for criminally filing a false income tax return. There is no subpoena necessary issued to IRS for this information. According to the testimony given by Michael Cohen in February, Trump's taxes were not under audit as he said they were. This was the argument he had given for not releasing his tax returns.
