Roger Stone Taking the Fifth

So call for their release and lets all know for sure.

Isn't that the job of Congress? I'm guessing one or more of their committees has already looked into this and found nothing, hence why nothing has been done about this nothing burger.

More lies.

You guys keep trying, and failing. That you keep promoting failures as damning evidence, is just shameful.

Tea party groups get revenge against IRS as judge approves $3.5 million payout

"A judge late Wednesday signed off on the settlement between the IRS and hundreds of tea party groups, closing out the last major legal battle over what all sides now agree was unwarranted and illegal targeting for political purposes.

The IRS agreed to pay $3.5 million to groups that were wronged by the intrusive inspections, and insists it’s made changes so that political targeting can’t occur in the future.

A few issues are still being fought over in the courts — including whether former IRS senior executive Lois G. Lerner will be allowed to forever shield her deposition explaining her behavior from public view, and whether the IRS should pay attorney fees — but this week’s decision closes out five years of litigation over the targeting itself.

“It shows that when a government agency desires to target citizens based on their viewpoints, a price will be paid,” said Edward Greim, the lawyer who led the class action case in federal court in Cincinnati.

The $3.5 million closely approximates the fines the IRS would have had to pay in damages for each intrusive scrutiny of tea party groups, had the agency been found in violation of the law. The money will be split with half going to the lawyers who argued the case and the other half to more than 100 tea party groups, which will get a cut of about $17,000 each."

Victims Of IRS's Tea Party Bias -- And Taxpayers -- Must See Lois Lerner's Testimony, Lawyer Says

"Lois Lerner, formerly of the Internal Revenue Service when it discriminated against applicants for tax exemptions based on their viewpoints, claims Americans have no right to read statements she made under oath about why she did it.

Lerner, the former director of the IRS’s Exempt Organizations Division, wants U. S. District Judge Michael Barrett to maintain under seal a deposition she gave in June for a civil suit that victims brought in 2013. Unsealing it would place her safety in jeopardy, she says."

What is shameful is you posting bs without a link so it can be reviewed. Not unexpected for some of you seek to weaponize our "apolitical" institutions. ..but also a flagrant violation of the rules of this board.

Re: Stone declines Dem request for interview, invokes Fifth Amendment

Sorry for the delay getting back, here. I don't know the specific law, but I do believe a President can indeed pardon anyone he wants accept for himself. It's then up to Congress to hold him accountable for his actions, if they so choose.

All this in my humble opinion. of course.
Before a pardon can be official, a judge has to issue an order acknowledging the pardon, and to dismiss the case. If a judge overseeing a defendants case has been presented evidence (perhaps sealed) that the president is a conspirator, any pardons then could be dismissed by the court as obstruction, and that would result in a legal fight.

Remember, Madison said no man can the judge in his own trail.

During the Iran-Contra investigation there was a lack of smoking guns tying Reagan and Bush to the conspiracy, so Walsh knew he had a mountain to climb to prove obstruction. OTOH, in Watergate many witnesses were on record implicating Nixon to both federal investigators and the Congress, and that made the legality of any pardons very questionable.

Trump has been told this and it's why he hasn't simply pardoned his cronies.

It's freaking facts, it's wikipedia, it's been posted a hundred times, probably 20 by me alone. Stop acting like you arent' just pushing the same old tired conspiracy theories.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IRS_targeting_controversy

They had to investigate twice because of the stupid conspiracy theory right wing nutters.

In late September 2017, an exhaustive report by the Treasury Department's inspector general found that from 2004 to 2013, the IRS used both conservative and liberal keywords to choose targets for further scrutiny, blunting claims that the issue had been an Obama-era partisan scandal.[2][3] The 115 page report confirmed the findings of the prior 2013 report that some conservative organizations had been unfairly targeted, but also found that the pattern of misconduct had been ongoing since 2004 and was non-partisan in nature.

Republicans, the party of conspiracy theories, abusing power to investigate based on bull**** claims, and continuing to fan those conspiracy theories as true long after they have been evidenced to be complete and totally bunk.

Obviously, you cant' stay on topic, which is Roger Stone, Republican connected to Trump, helping Wikileaks time the release of the Russian-hacked DNC emails to help Trump win the election.

It's freaking facts, it's wikipedia,.
:doh

It is kind of a problem that you seek Wikipedia is the basis for your truth. People were targeted unfairly and they were paid restitution. That is the relevant fact.
If you crucify stone for taking the 5th then one must treat Lerner the same. Stones legal history is not yet complete. Lerner evaded and was held to different standards. The Obama institution she was running admitted wrongdoing and paid restitution.

Justice Department settles with conservative groups over IRS scrutiny

"(Reuters) - The U.S. Justice Department has reached a settlement with dozens of conservative groups that claimed the Internal Revenue Service unfairly scrutinized them based on their political leanings when they sought a tax-exempt status, court documents showed.

In a pair of lawsuits filed in federal court in 2013, the conservative groups accused the IRS of targeting organizations with such words as “Tea Party” or “patriots” when they applied to the agency for tax-exempt status starting in 2010.

The sides asked the United States District Court for the District of Columbia on Wednesday to issue a declarative judgment in one of the cases involving 41 plaintiffs that would say the IRS was wrong to apply the United States tax laws based on an entity’s name, position or association with a particular political movement.

“We hope that today’s settlement makes clear that this abuse of power will not be tolerated,”"

Judicial Watch Statement on Justice Department’s Decision Not to Charge Lois Lerner in IRS Scandal

"Judicial Watch’s litigation forced the IRS first to say that emails belonging to Lerner were supposedly missing and later declare to the court that the emails were on IRS back-up systems. Lerner was one of the top officials responsible for the IRS’ targeting of President Obama’s political opponents. Judicial Watch exposed various IRS record keeping problems:

In June 2014, the IRS claimed to have “lost” responsive emails belonging to Lerner and other IRS officials.

In July 2014 Judge Emmett Sullivan ordered the IRS to submit to the court a written declaration under oath about what happened to Lerner’s “lost” emails. The sworn declarations proved to be less than forthcoming.

In August 2014, Department of Justice attorneys for the IRS finally admitted Judicial Watch that Lerner’s emails, indeed all government computer records, are backed up by the federal government in case of a government-wide catastrophe. The IRS’ attorneys also disclosed that Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) was looking at several of these backup tapes.

In November 2014, the IRS told the court it had failed to search any of the IRS standard computer systems for the “missing” emails of Lerner and other IRS officials.

On February 26, 2015, TIGTA officials testified to the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee that it had received 744 backup tapes containing emails sent and received by Lerner. This testimony showed that the IRS had falsely represented to both Congress, Judge Sullivan, and Judicial Watch that Lerner’s emails were irretrievably lost. The testimony also revealed that IRS officials responsible for responding to the document requests never asked for the backup tapes and that 424 backup tapes containing Lerner’s emails had been destroyed during the pendency of Judicial Watch’s lawsuit and Congressional investigations.

In June 2015, Judicial Watch forced the IRS to admit in a court filing that it was in possession of 6,400 “newly discovered” Lerner emails. Judge Emmet Sullivan ordered the IRS to provide answers on the status of the Lerner emails the IRS had previously declared lost. Judicial Watch raised questions about the IRS’ handling of the missing emails issue in a court filing, demanding answers about Lerner’s emails that had been recovered from the backup tapes.

In July 2015, U.S District Court Judge Emmet Sullivan threatened to hold John Koskinen, the commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service, and Justice Department attorneys in contempt of court after the IRS failed to produce status reports and recovered Lerner emails, as he had ordered on July 1, 2015.

Obama IRS Commissioner Koskinen was nearly impeached in September 2016 for misleading Congress on Lerner’s emails."

So you don't care for the truth. Understood.

You do understand the difference between being 'old school' and just plain 'foolish' ? Yes?

Tell us the reason(s) certain parts of government documents are redacted.
Well who knows? The FBI redacted the fact that McCabe had spent 30k on an office table out of a document. Could be any reason no matter how a scetchey

yeah right dude..that's it. :screwy

Ok oh wise one you tell us what is in the redactions because I thought those blacked out areas were certainly here to prevent people from knowing what was written there. But I guess you possess “special “ information that the rest of us don’t. So spill the beans let us know what it says.

Stone needs to be indicted...convicted and jailed....He is a traitor pure and simple.....Do they still hang traitors?

You
I'm not opposed to justice. It's been 2 years. Why do you think POTUS, the Republican Senate and the Republican House haven't done anything to reveal the truth? Is it because there's nothing to reveal? That it's just a big, fat nothing burger?

So if it can be proven that the FBI andDOJ knew the Russian dossier wasn’t verified but used it as evidence for a FISA warrant and signed off that it was verified to a FISA judge would that be lying to the FISA judge? Would you want the FBI wiretaping

you and reading your emails based on lies given to a FISA judge? I betting you will spin your answer.

Let justice be done. I'm all for it. However, it's been two years now and all we've seen is bitching and whining from the far right. Now the Republicans have lost a crucial edge with the loss of the House. If this wasn't a Nothing Burger, then why didn't the Republicans do something about it?

So, show us that the IG did not report what's in wikipedea then. it's sourced, you do understand wikipeadia lists all it's sources right?
So please cite your source that shows conclusively that the IG did not issue that report.
We can go get the actually IG report if you want, is that what you're going to link us too? I sure hope so.

I wish one day, a Trumper got something of significance correct on the forum. Just, you know, maybe 1/10 times. Maybe 1/20 would even be nice.

I have already answered that question once for you. The DOJ and The FBI obstructed the relese of the doucments like the FISA warrant application for the warrant to spy on Carter Page. That was because Comey Yates McCabe And Rosenstein all signed off on an application which fraudulently used the fake Russian dossier as a Reason to spy on Carter Page.

By the way the Clinton foundation is under investigation by the FBI in Little Rock and the IRS and they have 2 whistle blowers and about 6000 pages of documents and 95 exhibits. Next Thursday the house is interviewing the two whistleblower and John Huber on the subject.

What is fake in the dossier?

Buzz fed published it. You should be able to find it.

Oh, you just make that claim without a clue about it's accuracy? Color me shocked.

Well Steele said it was raw and unverified and Comey called it unverified and salacious. So you prove that Russian prostitutes we doing Golden shower's on Trump's bed because that is part of the accusation in it. Since it accused Trump of various BS then its up to those that want to use it to prove its true. Do you believe its true?
