Report: Ex-Trump lawyer Michael Cohen reaches plea deal with feds

yes, same guy. Craig Unger.

Let me know if you can, if there is new info on Trump/Russians.
Waiting for Woodward's book out on Sep 11. I am sure it will be, as usual from Woodward, full of bombshells

Maybe, the sentence is pretty light IMO.

But it would pretty much destroy his $$$ and that's what been noted most about what he does gain from the deal...protection of assets for his family.

Supposedly its three years in prison, a hefty fine, and protects some of his family assets.

But his lawyer has had Cohen talking with John Dean who served his prison time for Watergate and because he is looked at as a hero, came out of it smelling like a rose and made money for the next forty years.

Trump can pardon any federal crime. He cannot issue a pardon for a state crime and some of the crimes Cohen is pleading to, could also be filed on a state level were that necessary if they also violated state laws.

So...were they filed at the state level?

That is another must read.

Not to mention any political consequences that come as a result of issuing pardons connected to an investigation that's centered around him.

Yeah I listened to an interview with John Dean on NPR yesterday, re: this trial.

Cohen is no John Dean.

So...were they filed at the state level?

Not to my knowledge. But the point is that they could be if necessary. For example, New York has a state income tax and Cohen obviously could be cited for crimes associated with that. The same with his taxi medallions problem as well as defrauding any banks chartered under New York state law.

The crimes are there and Cohen will provide needed information to prove them.

IMO, if the government actually needed Cohen's cooperation they wouldn't have been able to make him plea guilty. But instead Cohen is agreeing to potentially years in jail.. that's no joke. Remember, Cohen had a ton of tapes and records seized, almost all of it related to his only real client. It's hard to see how they wouldn't have enough evidence to charge Trump for at least campaign finance violations.

But... none of this will happen until Trump leaves office. I don't think that SDNY is going to charge the president against current Justice Dept guidelines. They may issue a sealed indictment. But Trump's real jury will be the senate.

It was probably not a particularly good idea to let Cohen twist in the wind. The man knows at least 20 years of Trump's financial dealings, including all of his dealings with Russia.

Trump just ordered a case of Xanax. Twitter just fired up the spare servers. Brace yourself people.

I like how the prosecutors and investigators in all these tRump-related cases have been very, very patient. Like hunters on a marathon hunt. Slowly, strategically, circling their prey, taking them down one-by-one.

I agree with you completely. Cohen is no John Dean. But that will not stop him from trying to be and rehabilitate himself over time so he can earn money and support his family in something approaching the style they have grown accustomed to.

I agree with much of what you said here. I would disagree about one thing: the real Trump jury will not render their verdict until November of 2020 as the Republican dominated Senate will NEVER convict Trump given how they have completely kissed his bloated ass over the last year and a half. Its just not going to happen. The only exception would be really solid indisputable evidence that Trump has been a Russian asset and is serving Putin.

I don't think there's any chance that Trump runs again in 2020. He's not going to get any more popular and he'd be the oldest president ever to be elected. I can't see the GOP leadership remotely going along with that. But then again, I've been wrong over and over about the GOP. I guess that's what happens when you assume that people act rationally.

With that said, I don't think that his base would abandon himself for any reason whatsoever. I mean, think of the worst possible thing you could think of him doing. Mentally ill? Russian spy? Money laundering dope? Secretly molesting his daughter. Believable? Yup. Do you think it any of it would matter to his supporters? I mean he brags about barging in on naked under age girls like it's a conquest. He cheated on his pregnant wife with a porn star. He's been convicted of institutionalizing racism multiple times. The things we know that he's done are horrible enough.

It's all low information emotional support. Reality doesn't matter.

You bring up a good point. If Melania caught him in bed mid act with a circus midget, Trumps defense would be he was trying to cut his habit in half.

And lots of people would buy it.

.... Remember, Cohen had a ton of tapes and records seized, almost all of it related to his only real client.

I don't believe that's true. They stated that virtually all of the records were related to his business dealings. Records regarding attorney client privilege were reviewed. If I remember correctly, there was one recording related to Trump, for which Trump's legal team waived privilege.

It's hard to see how they wouldn't have enough evidence to charge Trump for at least campaign finance violations.

It will be interesting to see what the campaign finance law Cohen pled guilty to was, but I doubt there's a smoking gun leading to Trump.

Cohen isn't White House Counsel. MaGhan is...and he was interviewed for 30 hours....he indeed could be Dean.

It is over the payments to Trump's prostitutes....so yeah, it leads to Trump.

I think the Russian/collusion allegations won’t be the only problem for Trump. Obstruction would be another. But I also think that Mueller’s investigation will reveal widespread corruption. Perhaps on a unprecedented scale with much of it taking place across international boundaries:

Yes and most likely they will be construed as having been campaign finance violations.

You re spot on about that. I just picked up the book HOUSE OF TRUMP, HOUSE OF PUTIN and while I am only 40 pages into it, there is already much about this very subject.

Is that the fellow who was on CNN 2 days ago? Book lists Russian contacts/property purchases back to the 80's???

So I just read the description of this book on Amazon.

Can even one quarter of this book be true? How is that possible?

I'm more than willing to be open to the worst about the asshole in the WH but I wont believe stuff just because I want to...

How can the stuff described here be verified, even a quarter of it, and none of this came out before the election?

Well it will download on my Kindle 11 Sep-preordered

Is that one, Fear: Trump in the WH?

I have that pre-ordered too.

Agreed. THere's nothing you can do to make his supporters believe anything they dont want to...it's all just 'fake news.'

Well played Trump, well played.

He is on the record, before running, saying that he knows people will believe anything he tells them. And he was right for a very large number of Americans. Who chose to ignore that he said that :doh

I would be happy to loan you my copy when I am finished with it but Michigan and Seattle are pretty far apart. ;)

I can say that the first 40 pages are very informative.

btw- earlier we talked about cooperation agreement versus not having one - and former federal prosecutor Chuck Rosenberg on MSNBC talked about that and said that one usually can lead to the other and even if they do not announce this as a plea agreement to cooperate, it likely has already been placed in the talking stages and will develop. .

The US real estate industry was heavily invested with purchases from Russians laundering money. UK and many other countries as well
10 B fine for one bank, Duetsche Bank

Yes, that is a material difference.... Looks like Cohen will take a bullet for Trump as a plea without cooperation agreement will likely result in real jail time.

He is expected to plead guilty to a campaign finance violation, so that will be an additional crime on Trump's ledger.

him committing campaign finance violation has nothing to do with trump.
so what crimes has trump committed again?

i haven't seen any charges jury or trial in which he was convicted so can you please
list us for those in detail and the court dates and times?
