Well, why stop there? Why not require at least one graduate degree?
I know people who only made it to 8th or 9th grade who are nevertheless very well-read and also very intelligent. In fact, the husband of one of my girlfriends (and she does hold a doctorate) didn't even have his GED for a very long time and worked as the service manager of a Ford dealership for 18 years. But he decided to earn his GED...and then he decided to teach himself calculus...and now he holds at least three patents, doesn't have to work, and races his Mustang Cobra all over the country for the fun of it.
Conversely, I've known legions of academics and am here to tell you that despite perhaps being utterly brilliant in their area, some of them are, truly, as dumb as a box of hair, so stupid that you're reminded frequently that the reason they're able to breathe on their own is because this is involuntary. And childish too.
I corrected myself already. It was a snotty thing to say that didn't capture what I really meant, which is that I don't like when people form opinions about technical subjects (like economics) fact-free. It is the defining quality of our political culture right now and infests this forum.
