Mom defends her 3-year-old child’s right to wear tutus

Yep. So?

There's a ga-zillion different ways kids can be cruel and bullies towards somebody else.

3 year old's don't tend to do that though.

If it's the kid's choice, and not the mother's overbearing influence, why should it matter to anyone else but the kid and his parents?

As long as it happens while the child is at home, I don't have a problem with it. Sending them to school that way is another story.

My 5-year-old niece likes to wear her daddy's work boots. She kept falling over so my brother bought her a pair of her own. Is there any difference between that and this little boy who loves tutus?

Yes. Your five year old niece doesn't like to stomp around in boots (which is why my 3 year old little girl also likes to wear boots) because a parent is constantly filling her head with genderless nonsense, which is what Jen Shattuck appears to have done to her son. Three and a half year olds don't come out with crap like "there are no rules about what boys can wear or what girls can wear" unless they are repeating what an adult has told them.

And even if you believe that kids should wear 'gender-appropriate' clothing, whatever that is, is it okay for someone to confront parent and child and forcefully express disapproval?

It depends on who you are. Unless you can speak into that parent's life with some kind of authority (either from a relationship, or a position), all your words will do is cause the parent to double down on the child abuse.

Why the hell is it anyone else's business?

Why the hell is it your business if it's anyone else's business.

The question was is it OK, and it is OK. You can say things to other people, you can disapprove of their choices so long as you leave it at that. You can have an opinion and express it. No one has to listen to that opinion or give it any weight, but it's a free country so one can express it.

I don't think a tutu is appropriate attire for any gender to wear to school.

This. Kids like **** that's colourful and sparkly. As a culture, we associate colourful and sparkly with feminine clothing. Notice camo gets mentioned as the go to "boys" clothing. From the perspective of a child, unless they have previous associations (military cartoons etc.), camo is ****ing boring.

Hardly "boring"

Wow,you think allowing a toddler to wear whatever they want is child abuse?
I guess filling their heads with stories about an invisible sky wizard is child abuse also.

I don't think wearing a tutu is a violation of dress code.

I don't know, schools these days can be rather unreasonable about a lot of stuff.

What i dont believe are the parents... a three year old saying the tutu makes him feel beautiful and brave. What idiotic horse ****. Parent speaking for the child.

No, I think that trying to convince your three year old little boy that he's actually a little girl, or questioning, or in between, or whatever, because it shows what a good Progressive you are (which is what this mother appears to be doing) is child abuse.

Yeah. A three year old only says this kind of crap if he or she has been taught to say it.

It's a tutu, it's not gender confusion.

Being an asshole's quite popular too I believe, but I defend anyone's right to assholedom.

It kinda is though... how many shows have gay characters? 3% of the population but how many shows? More than 3%...

TV's not real. Well OK, there are documentaries. But mostly it's just made up stories. Does it have to reflect the full statistical demographics of a country? Who cares if shows have gay characters, if it bothers you, watch something else.

I don't think sending a 3 year old to school is age appropriate, never mind gender.

American pre-schools are pretty sophisticated these day. Given many families need two incomes, they're a must.

Just because one can, doesn't mean one should. Or that it's "OK".

You can call a black person the "n" word, does that mean it's "OK"?

I can't stop you from yelling at all the little girls in your area that they're all whores. That doesn't mean it's "ok" does it?
