This evening, after much practice learning the mangled lyrics of this summer camp national anthem, originally written by Rose Bonne, put to music by Canadian folk musician Alan Mills, my five year old twin boys performed after dinner with their shrill soprano voices at the highest possible volume, accompanying themselves on their new open tuned to A ukuleles, their own version of "There was a fat lady who ate a bugger, a worm, a snake, not our pet frogs" after dinner with my older son's family in their home. Immediately met with repeated shrieks from my daughter in law, standing on her chair, "What pet frogs!!!?" Who knew?

Some parents dread their children's first encounter with drums. Now parents can fear the terror of ukuleles. My son is contemplating suicide, my daughter in law still drinking wine directly from the bottle seeking oblivion, the other 4 siblings ensconced under noise canceling headphones. Grandpa's revenge, and grandma hasn't stopped laughing herself silly having braced herself before dinner with two double martinis. My co-conspirator.





The pet frogs are sitting in an old terrarium with plenty of frog food, dead dried flies, a pebble beach, a small pool of fresh clean water, and a mesh covering, on top of a six drawer dresser in the boys shared room. A gift from their sisters who have accepted responsibility for their future good health. Soon some new plants will be added to the terrarium. A joint landscaping effort. No animals have been harmed in this production. Yet.

At one time Bob Dylan sought out Ronnie's advice about selecting a back up band for a tour. Later, Ronnie convinced those same back up musicians to practice for their own thing at a place they called The Big Pink. Ronnie had supplied the paint.
