Modern English probably takes the prize for two awful covers of its own song, "I Melt With You."

Are they so bad you couldn't bring yourself to posting a video...? :2razz:

"The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" by the Band......

Joan Baez' idiotic version of the same song......

Baez takes a song about gut-wrenching, nearly biblical loss and turns it into an up-tempo party tune.

"Hey, look kids....the south has been crushed...everybody dance!!"

Disgustingly, Baez' version was a huge hit.

I was actually at this show and, having seen The Who do it live, this was.....less than special.

In the annals of bad covers this one is epic

I know that I'm going to get grief for this but I still can't get into this one

If you were into basement punk in the 80's you probably heard this one

Gary Hoey did a commendable cover of the Focus tune, Hocus Pocus but when he tried to cover the Edgar Winter classic, Frankenstein he just came across as loud

This is another one I'm going to get crap for

How about the really awful covers (not just odd person in bedroom playing up for youtube) made by people who should have known and done better? I've already commented on the really awful Judas Priest cover of Green Manalishi but here are two more horrors..

I am not even sure if this fits the criteria; came across it when listening to Queen on YouTube.

I figure it's a metaphor about what has happened to the concept of talent in the days of Rap. He starts at :58 after a taped intro. Give him a verse of two before you do an unintended protein spill

Wow! That's horrible.

Listen to the whole thing, then comment.

Obviously, asking people to listen to the whole thing is your idea of "Rick Rolling" them.

I'll grant you this, it was spectacular in it's awfulness.

I missed all of those but, then again, I don't shop that part of the record store.

I didn't watch the video myself; I read that Madonna had covered "American Pie" and was so horrified that I couldn't go on.

Not content with ruining one classic, Soft Cell went and vomited all over "Purple Haze" and "Voodoo Chile" too.

Proof that some take up rap because they can't actually sing. Anyhow, it fits - it's godawful.

Believe me, you won't. Mind you, I really loved Run DMC walk this way. Bit like Public Enemy and Anthrax working together, you knew this was true people across the political, musical and cultural boundaries working together.

Trust me, it's not worth the nightmares.

One excellent cover is Heart doing Stairway to Heaven with a full piece orchestra at the Kenedy Center....
