What Was The Last Movie You Watched and Rate it!

So few good movies out there....

The last new movie I saw that I actually thought was good was "A Quiet Place"

Love that one. Granddaughters were here watching it with me, and it was soooooo quiet in the house - you kind of hold your breath when watching that movie, because you don't want to make a sound. Then one granddaughter crunched on a handful of popcorn, and it seemed so loud - hilarious.

Everybody should go and see THE GREEN BOOK. Just the best film of the year.

You're going to pass on "Bohemian Rhapsody"? Oh please don't worry! The movie is an amazing experience. There's so much humor and love in it. You won't walk out regretting it. I promise! I love Freddie too (he's one of about 5 rockers/singers for whom I still mourn their passing). I couldn't wait for this film to come out and I enjoyed every minute. They didn't tear him down at all.

I haven't watched the documentary and I don't think I will. I remember what it was like back in that day. He was no different than a lots and lots of people in his situation. I'll leave it at that.
While I enjoy Queen, the song 'Bohemian Rhapsody' is a song I never need to hear again at this point, it's been plaid so much, so often. There's a lot of classic rock songs that, IMHO, have gotten way too much airplay, and that's one of the worst offenders.

Give me 'Don't stop me now', 'Fat bottom girls', or 'Pressure', please.

They only played parts of the song twice in the move and one of those was the recreation the Live Aid set did. That alone is reason enough to see the movie.

We saw A Star is Born with Lady GaGa and Bradley Cooper on Tuesday.

I haven't seen any of the other versions of the movie nor did I really know anything about it so I went in with no preconceptions. We both loved it. The acting is first rate, Bradley Cooper turns out to be a good director and
Lady GaGa, once you strip away all the showy crap is an outstanding singer and talented pianist. Though having listened to her sing jazz standards with Tony Bennett I already knew that.

I still love "Bohemian Rhapsody". Of course I limit how often I listen to it. I cannot think of the last time I heard it on the radio. Hmmm. But I get where you're coming from. I'm rather burned out on "Killer Queen" myself.

The story of "Bohemian Rhapsody" in the movie, was very entertaining.

Oh yeah. I give me those and "Somebody To Love" and "Bicycle Race". Really, I like them all.

I get ya'.

Hey, I'm a big Rush fan and if I hear 'Tom Sawyer' again, I'll scream like I'm being stabbed.

I will say that the preview I saw that had the dude playing Mercury crowd surfing made me roll my eyes. Seriously, does everybody have to crowdsurf now to be a rockstar?

Jolene on Amazon Prime....has a large helping of the ridiculous which I normally dont like but this is a sexy romp.

9/10

Bitter Moon, a good indicator of why the artistic community was never willing to throw Polanski to the dogs.

They rarely make movies this good anymore.

9/10

Lost a point for flaws in filming like glass fluid levels not matching up, they were not that careful...what ever that is called.

in time; dystopian sci fi movie in which no one ages past 25, but are engineered to die once they run out of time. time becomes the currency; some have a lot, some live hour to hour.

good premise, mediocre execution. certainly an aspect of the film is that it is a thinly veiled critique of capitalism; albeit a flawed one.

i'd give it maybe a 5.5 out of 10. better than some sci fi movies; not as good as GATTACA, which i'd probably give at least an 8.

And entirely likely to happen some day in the near future, possibly even within my lifetime.
Curious, what specific flaw? Not saying it isn't flawed, just wondering what your contention is.

i saw it in 2012, so i would have to watch it again to have a good discussion about the film. my guess is that i meant that there is a difference between desperately attempting to avoid certain death and living paycheck to paycheck.

Yeah, after I hit SEND I suddenly realized you'd posted that in 2012.

i do remember the movie a bit, so it must not have been that bad. perhaps i underrated it.

My guess is that the story takes place some time around 2050 or maybe even 2060 or so, because apparently we've addressed the issues of fossil fuels and health care, at least to some extent.
Medical science is right now on the cusp of being able to fully clone and design human beings, and in a few short years we will be able to genetically erase a great many risk factors for some of the more horrible diseases.
The cars in the movie all appear to run on some sort of hybrid or pure electric propulsion, so we're clearly past the gasoline era.

That's why I am guessing we'd be somewhere around the middle or waning decades of the century, clearly a couple of decades after I've shuffled off this mortal coil.

I do find it odd that in 2012 the writers still think everyone in the US working class has factory jobs, although now that money is time, does it really even matter where one locates a factory anymore? As long as most people automatically die a little bit after twenty-five years of age, you've eliminated any issues related to things like old age pensions and social safety nets.
If you're poor and poorly qualified to get ahead, you simply die, that's all.

Side note: I've always wanted to take an old classic cruiser and retrofit it with some kind of 21st century modern power plant.
I love the idea of taking a 1960's Continental and equipping it with a torquey electric drivetrain, although I'd much prefer a 1965 Chrysler Imperial instead.

And an electric or hybrid powered Dodge Charger? Yeah, it's more than a bit sacrilegious but I bet we'll see it happen once gasoline starts to hit ten bucks a gallon or more. A few wealthy people will hang onto their Hemi-powered models but they'll live most of their lives under a tarp, only taken out a few times a year, sort of like pleasure boats.

But the whole issue of turning money into time? Entirely within the realm of possibility when you listen to the way some of the elites talk.
And that's the elites on all sides of the spectrum, by the way. I doubt that even the most liberal billionaire would fight all that hard to resist the effort to transform our monetary system as long as they are allowed to continue enjoying the lives that they lead.

Turning money into time is the ultimate libertarian "gotcha" move in a darwinian sense.

Just did "Under the Tuscon Sun" with the wife as we did movie night, in surround sound.

Touching and well done

Last movie watched was "Casino". After the football games later today I'll watch "Disclosure".

Mission Impossible: Fallout
- pretty much the same as all the other MI movies, but this one drags way way too long. The whole franchise is pretty much about huge set pieces for stunts and FX. I for one am tired of it. Did I also mention that its predictable? Tom Cruise and his team are basically all superheroes. 4.5/10

Operation Finale- movie starring Oscar Isaac as a Mossad agent in the real life capture and trial of Adolf Eichmann. I saw a previous, made for TVversion and this one is pretty much the same movie. Over-dramatized and over long, it drags pretty soon after the first scene. Well made, though its pretty much it. 5/10

Tried to watch READY PLAYER ONE on HBO the other night and found it dreadful and a complete waste of time. I gave up after 75 minutes. It pains me to admit this since I am a huge fan of Spielberg going back to his first films on TV when he was a kid working for Universal.

Then went to the moves and saw something my wife has been after me to see - A STAR IS BORN. I enjoyed it and would give it 7 out of 10. I thought Bradley Cooper did a really good job both on screen and as director. And Lady Gaga was very impressive in the lead although I want to see her in something else where she is not so much playing herself. Sam Elliott is in it and he is always a bonus in a good supporting role. I did not even know I was watching Andrew Dice Clay as her father until the credits. He was that good.

Watched THE MAN WHO INVENTED CHRISTMAS last night and really enjoyed it. 8 out of 10. Christopher Plummer plays Scrooge and was delightful.

It shows how Dickens wrote the classic CHRISTMAS CAROL and the characters come into his falling apart life to save him in more ways than one. It was really good.

The Vanishing (2018)- 3 lighthouse keepers in a deserted island find a cache of gold on a not so dead person and begin to get greedy. Interesting premise, but the script cant pull it off. 5/10

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2837574/?ref_=nv_sr_1
The Old Man and the Gun (2018)- Robert Redford stars in his final movie about a geriatric bank robber. Somewhat easy going and whimsical. 7/10

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6966692/?ref_=nv_sr_1
Green Book (2018)- Viggo Mortensen stars as a Itlaian gangster out to drive a black dude around the South before the civil rights era. OK and not bad at all though its really kinda Disneyish and feel-good all around. 7.5/10

Bad Times at the El Royale. 4/5

I'm a noir junkie, so I'm an easy mark. VERY well-written, very well-acted. Direction suffered a bit from its own grand design.

One of the better films of 2018.

Knock, Knock.

I wanted to knock Keanu's head for doing this movie!! Threw the dvd in the garbage, where it belongs.

Bohemian Rhapsody- I prefer to watch drama movies at home so I waited until it came out on streaming. Rami Malek is pretty good as Freddy Mercury, but the teeth issue is overly exaggerated, imo. The movie is uneven, with some scenes not really coming together and it rather sanitizes many key aspects of Mercury's life, but in the end, the good outweighs the bad since the music portions are very good. 7/10

Widows- about a group of women who team up on a heist after their criminal husbands die in a shootout with the cops. Although the premise is good, I thought the whole thing felt contrived, and it had the obligatory Hollywood ending. Also, the twist at the end was pretty predictable, I guessed about 70% of it right. 5/10

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4971344/?ref_=tttr_tr_tt
The Sisters Brothers- Western about two brothers who are bounty hunters, and I was pleasantly surprised at how good it is. Joaquin Phioenix, John C Reilly, and Jake Gyllenhall are all good in it. I was expecting it to be somewhat of a parody, but it was played straight- way better than The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. Unpredictable plot and somewhat unexpected ending too. 7.5/10
