That's the message the media is sending us. As blacklivesmatter recently shut down the Bay Bridge in San Francisco to protest white cop on black person shootings, black on white hate crimes have continued to occur, and are ignored by BOTH the media and law enforcement.

Take for example, the attack on a white Iraq War veteran, which occurred in Washington Park, Illinois last October. He was attacked by 4 black males, beaten unconscious, and then ran over with a car. His only offense was being white in a black neighborhood. He survived Iraq, only to be nearly killed while pumping gas in the US.

The suspects have not been charged with a hate crime, and the local media refused to mention the racial nature of the attack.

That isn't the message the media is sending us...that just the OP trying to make it a racial issue where there was none.

I fail to see what the crime in the OP article has to do with BLM. It didn't even mention BLM. Not even sure if it was a hate crime like the OP is suggesting...it could've just been a crime of opportunity. Hell, the OP doesn't even know if the victim was white. But here the OP is ....pulling the race card and making it the premise of his thread. Can't blame Obama or the left this time.

To be fair, the Black Lives Matter idea came out of the impression some had (with some justification) of institutional discrimination buy state organisations such as police and judiciary against non-white citizens. There is a distinction between individuals being racist (which is inevitable) and the state supporting it. Sadly, the whole campaign has been spun, twisted and misrepresented by all sorts of people for their our various intentions so much so that any original good intentions have long gone.

As far as the media goes, they don’t care about any lives, they care about headlines because that’s what makes them money. They’ll report purportedly racist crimes that are white on black more than black on white precisely because they can get more response form the former. They know that can go to a couple of “campaigners” or just scan the internet and pick up a couple of stupid statements that can be easily spun in to a controversial headline. And, of course, the media will continue to feed both the pro- and anti- “BLM” lines to keep the profitable controversy spinning.

In the past elements of the media have played the same kind of game emphasising (and exaggerating) black crime too and there are currently elements playing with the anti-Muslim/anti-Arab angle at the moment. If you make the assumption that “the media” in general is political or racist rather than simply capitalist, you’re ironically playing in to their game for them.

You had something going until you pulled out the story about the Iraq veteran.

BLM has shown some definite racialist tendencies, by doing exactly what you just did, using isolated incidents to paint a broad swath of society.

In short - you, and they - pick the wrong hills to die on.

But, back up a moment. BLM is a grass roots movement and the message that REALLY underlies the protests is that blacks still feel a bit unloved and unwanted by whites. Their "heroes" fail, like Michael Brown, who, as it turned out, was a thug. But, the Brown incident led to a rallying, so they went with it. There are many, many other incidents where black children are killed (as I'm sure you want to point out) and no one rallies. While that might seem lopsided - and, indeed it is -- it shouldn't detract from the fact that blacks still feel like second-class citizens.

And, you know what? They're right.

But, you know what else? You're right, too. By BLM singling out only blacks killed by whites, a lot of injustice is overlooked. A lot of injustice toward whites from other whites, toward blacks from other blacks, and toward all humans by other humans.

BLM is less about thugs like Michael Brown and more about a cry for understanding and acceptance by young blacks who don't want to be depicted as thugs.

There is no evidence that BLM members orchestrated the attack on the Iraq veteran and it would be wrong to judge their group because of that. What we can do is look at those individuals who blocked the highway and say that they overstepped -- that they need to be arrested and fined (which is what happened).

Young Black men are statistically more likely to die at the hands of other black men more than any other risk factor. White guys of the same age mostly die in car accidents, IIRC.

He should have picked a few of the more recent examples of black on white violence. Something happening a year ago weakens the argument. But, we can look past that, just like we need to look past Michael Brown when discussing BLM. So, I agree with you as well as what the OP is trying to point out.

Black on white, racially motivated violence gets a pass in the media. It's downplayed, the racial component ignored or clouded as we see the stories told almost always try not to make race the issue. Unlike white on black violence which is almost always the lead story, and race there is the story.

Yes, it's downplayed. But, that's just because most MSM outlets want to fit in with what is politically correct. For the most part, white Americans live in relative safety. Sure, we have our thieves, rapists and ne'er do wells but when we look at crime statistics, they aren't nearly as prevalent in white neighborhoods as they are in minority neighborhoods. Statistically, more whites are the murder victims of blacks than blacks are the murder victims of whites. We all know that. But, it's also true that blacks suffer from the highest risk of being victims of violent crime as well.

"What you do" is much more likely to determine whether you will be a victim of crime than "who you are."

If you (black or white) live in a rural community, your risk of being a victim of violent crime goes WAY down. If you live in an inner-city poverty-stricken area, your risk of being a victim of violent crime goes WAY up.

I understand the argument that BLM is making a statement that whites are not important when it comes to discrimination, and we both know that true discrimination can happen to anyone, black, white or green.

We live in a society with growing pains and BLM is just one more example of a group of people wanting to ensure respect for who they are. They're not right. They're not wrong. They are just at a point in their lives where it makes sense to them to join this group and try to enact social change.

My advice is to just step back. Step away and look on the situation with new eyes. It's highly unlikely that the majority of protesters in the BLM movement really want to harm individual whites. It's much more likely that they think they can bring about social change.

White lives are the most valued lives in this country, LOL. Anybody who says otherwise is either dumb, ignorant or a white supremacist.

To add: I know that police are much more aggressive in the urban areas where many blacks live. However, unlike BLM, I do not see that policing as racist. I see it as something that has to be done. Those are high crime areas. Of course, they need aggressive policing.

One complaint I have about the BLM thing and the need for aggressive policing is the "no snitch" badge of honor worn by many in the black community. When the community actively interferes with police work and/or refuses to help fight crime there, the results of course will be ugly.

No snitching is starting to show some cracks though. Which is a good thing. For example, the arrest of the suspects who shot and killed a baby in a drug area in Dayton, Ohio were apprehended because people talked and gave the cops a good lead. If more of that becomes the norm, then we can be sure the police will be less hostile to the community in general.

If you are white, what's stopping you from protesting and bringing it to people's attention that you feel white lives dont matter?

well, they do actually, would the firefighter not be conscious of how the house fire is fought to not have the fire spread to the other house?

#blacklivesmatters is racial division, creates a state of open racism while ignoring much larger problems in the black community.

"A firefighter arrives to see two houses, one is on fire and the other is perfectly fine. All houses matter, he says.."

Sometimes the firefighters will let the house that is beyond saving burn while they soak the roof on the house next door. Is that the solution you are proposing? ;)

I used this story of the Iraqi War veteran to illustrate my point, that the media and law enforcement are downplaying racial violence against whites by blacks. I could list dozens more of these attacks, but I know the end result would be me getting called a racist ironically, by those who don't want such stories talked about.

I don't believe that BLM members are really doing this because they feel unwanted and unloved by whites. I don't think most of them really care what white people think about them. And if they do feel that way, who cares? Who feels loved and wanted by everyone? They need to grow up and be adults if this is really their motivation.

You mentioned Blm a lot, what about the media? Why do they only cover these stories as run of the mill crimes and not as racially motivated hate crimes? They are very quick to put "unarmed black man" and "white police officer" in the very title of any story involving a white cop and a black suspect. Yet the race of victim and offender is never mentioned when it's a group of blacks beating and unarmed white person into the cement.

And why does law enforcement not charge these kinds of offenders with a hate crime? Are they being instructed not to?

I'm less concerned about BLM and more concerned about the complete lack of care that the media, law enforcement, and our president have about this issue.

White lives are the most valued lives in this country, LOL. Anybody who says otherwise is either dumb, ignorant or a white supremacist.

The logic in this post makes my head hurt.

Statement: Dumb, ignorant, and white supremacist are 3 qualities that are not valued.

Therefore, if we get all the white people to believe their lives aren't the most valued in this country all white people would be dumb, ignorant, or white supremacist. If they believe their lives aren't the most valued, they can't be a white supremacist. Therefore they must be dumb and/or ignorant. Their overall value goes down because let's face it, that's not desirable.

But, then they would be correct in their belief that whites are not the most valued. Accordingly, they wouldn't be dumb or ignorant anymore - they'd be correctly informed. So, then their value would go back up - making them dumb and ignorant again...

If you feel there is institutional bias against white people you are of course free to start your own movement and protests to high light that fact.

I'm kinda confused they complain the media makes certain things racist then complain when certain things aren't made racist. They want to protest race baiting by race baiting?

No, I'm just pointing out that black on white hate crimes are not given the same amount of attention as white on black police shootings.

Yawn! Why is it that there are so many people that can not comprehend the Black Lives Matter movement? It just goes to show you just thick skinned far too many are; how firmly entrenched in our culture racism remains and how much distance remains in the journey toward fairness and racial equality.

... and black man shooting a white man (nor a white man shooting a black man) does not make it a hate crime.

I'm not sure what the deal is either. It's apples and oranges. On the one hand we're talking about institutionalized racism - government agencies discriminating in the way the exercise their responsibilities versus instances of black private citizens committing hate crimes against while private citizens. The are different things.

I don't think it is really a case of white lives don't matter so much as it is that behavior doesn't matter if you happen to be black.

Black on white hate crimes are a far different thing from white on black police shootings. One is a case of private citizens committing crimes against other private citizens. The other is a case of society - we the people - through our elected officials allegedly committing crimes against a group of citizens. They are radically different things.
