Why sympathize with rule breakers?

I find it interesting that there were two articles on the Dec. 10 Metro section front about people who think they are above laws and rules. . . .
The second gentleman moved into a development that requires permission for flagpoles. He disregarded the covenants and put up a flagpole anyway. But since he is a battle hero, a retired Army colonel who single-handedly took on three Nazi tanks in World War II, that should make it okay.
Now you have a situation where all residents in that association can challenge its rules, because, if you let one person get away with it, then everyone should be so entitled. . . .
Why sympathize with rule breakers?
