The same thing that gave the Governor the right to order untested vaccines to be given to our children, after receiving huge campaign contributions from the pharmaceutical company that manufactures it. It's called an executive order.
Luckily for us, the Legislature was able to shut down Perry's vaccine executive order, but the Legislature is not always successful. Perry isn't just out there. He is dangerous.
Your fear of Perry is unfounded and you aren't going to find the perfect candidate in White either.
Perry has lobbyists filling all the coat pockets in his closet. He has seriously threatened to secede from the U.S. He's an idiot who has no idea what he's doing. Let me give you an example:
Our state has no income tax, so we have to rely on other taxes and (something I just learned recently) the lottery. Perry suggested privatizing the lottery so it might run better. We also rely on toll highways a lot, Perry suggested selling tolling operations to foreign companies [Citizen outcry halts rush to sell-off TX hwys to foreign operators] which is just weird as hell.
He's crazy and he claims to be fighting for Texas when he's actually damaging it.
Again, your opinion. I too live in TX and have zero problem with the economy in this state and found it is better keeping what you have than changing course like we did nationally in the November 2008 elections. How is that hope and change working out for you?
Really? Its working out for no one.
In November the country voted for change and look where that got us. It isn't working out for anyone. Now many of these same people want to make a change in TX. I see no reason to make that change.
I don't think this is a Dem vs. Rep thing, like I said before, Hutchison would make a good governor.
Perry just screams "sleazy," I'm really very suspicious of him.
Anyone's better than Rick "Secede from the union" Perry.
That would be awesome. Please just go.
Typical rant from someone who doesn't live in TX. You have no business sticking your nose into what we do here but that doesn't stop a know it all and a true legend in his own mind.

I am just not willing to change right now. Things are better in TX than almost anywhere else in the nation, I know, I travel. Want to see pure misery go to California or the midwest. There is no justification for change right now in this state, IMO.

Spending the last 18 years in the Houston area, I had a chance to see Bill White up close and he did a very good job here but I will not vote for him because of the D after his name. Sad but true as I grew up a Democrat but the Democrat Party left me and I will not vote to give them a "win" in November.
People that are voting need to look at the big picture. We are in a recession and TX has weathered that recession better than almost every other state in the country and based upon that I see no reason to change.
All the allegations against Perry and especially some here in this thread don't hold water in face of the economic conditions in this state vs. the country. I love living in TX, I love the basic independence here, the common sense that most have, no state income taxes, a choice where to live that determines the property taxes I pay, the economy of TX, and the diverse geography here.
Everyone is looking for the perfect candidate and isn't going to find it anywhere. I can find a lot I don't like about Perry but based upon the economic conditions here he has my vote.
I agree that Mr. White has the letter D after his name and is evidently not a turncoat, unlike Mr. Perry who before he saw which side his bread was buttered on was a member of Al Gores staff.
God knows what that sneaky bast**d taught him.
The point I am making is that perry is an opportunist, he has no beliefs other than what suits his pocket best.
With regards to rumors, that is all they are unless they can be substantiated.
But you must choose who you want, someone who (with warts) yet apparently cares for Texas, or someone who does not give a tinkers cuss for anything except his own pocket.
Based upon the economy in the country vs the economy in TX today why would we change the TX Governor? Perry has been Governor for over a decade so we know what we have now. I see no reason to change.
With that reasoning you must have voted for Obama.

IMHO I think it would behove you to check the Financial welfare of Texas prior to believing what Mr. Perry would like you to believe.
In particular one might suggest you look at the income v outgoings for 2010 / 2011.
A very different picture curiously not rose colored appears.
I don't recall Bush being on the ballot in November 2008.
I really am amazed at what an expert you are on the state of TX since you do not live in this state but have such incredibly astute observations and opinions.
I voted for McCain in November, he wasn't my first choice but beat the alternative. Both McCain and Obama were in the Senate and Obama was part of the party that led us over the cliff the last two years. My vote for McCain vs. Obama was solid.
Same principle though.
I live in the Washington DC area. Yet you keep trying to tell me how the federal government works.
Solid? No, based on your impulses, not rationality. Nothing wrong with that, as long as you admit it. But you won't.
How is that hope and change working out for you?
No one should have to tell you anything about how the Federal govt. works, it is there for all to see. Some however are blind, dumb, and stupid.
I made the right choice in November as I saw Obama for who he was, a leftwing radical with zero executive experience who would try and transform this country into a European socialist model society. With all his warts, McCain beat that alternative.
30 years ago I voted for mostly one party but even then couldn't go 100%.
Conservative we not only have the state in common we have the geographical area in common.
Having paid off this house 15 years ago I would like to actually outright own it someday instead of the government so I liked that about Medina but I wasn't quite sure how she was going to shift the cost. Talk about major changes, she would have brought some.
For all the reasons mentioned above I want Perry out but I'm not sure White will be any better, maybe a little. I would like to see Whites stance on all of the things I don't like about Perry but then I only have his word for it and would not know if he backed them up no more than Perry has his till he was in there for awhile.
If Perry ever tries to carry through with that secession I would be leery of the deal he has going behind the scenes for doing it.
30 years ago I was a Democrat but never voted solely for one party or the other. I always voted for the better of the two candidates, those closest to my point of view. That is until the Democrat Party left me as it abandoned all Conservatives. Today the Democrat Party is far left and doesn't represent anything that I support nor the very foundation upon which this country was built.
The Republican Party isn't much better although the Republican Party better represents my issues.
If I lived in Houston, and I don't but live in a close suburb, I would have voted for Bill White. He did a good job for the city but wasn't perfect as there is no such thing. As it stands right now I will be voting for Perry but quite frankly don't have a problem with White. Time will tell. Depends on how close he gets to Obama and today's Democrat Party.
Rick Perry has no intention of trying to secede from the nation. He has however captured a populist view in TX and wants the Federal Govt. out of the state and I don't blame him. TX has a large Federal Govt. footprint however with the military bases and Border control agents along with military hospitals and Federal Govt. offices but it is also very independent and hopefully will remain that way.
I have no intention of voting for anyone that would even promote seceding from the union as that is a very short thinking individual out of touch with reality. I do want TX however to continue being the pro growth, pro business state that it is and operate without that entitlement mentality that other states seem to have. I am extremely happy living in this state and at this point see no reason to change Governors. That could change but not if the Democrats get their claws into this state.
