No, it would still be Target.
just like Chrysler is still Chrysler, right?
No, it would still be Target.
You're such a tough guy. And you military types never ever complain about anything, ever. Right?
I took it as anyone should just be happy to have any job with any wage, with any working condition.
I could ask you the same question
When working at the airport I got paid double when working on a holiday. I got paid 8 hours of holiday pay and 8 hours of normal work pay which equated to 16 hours of normal pay for 8 hours of work
um, yeah. still not feeling the love for a bunch of under-educated, unskilled crybabies who got upset because they had to go to work at midnight on Thanksgiving. it's not like they had to work all day thanksgiving day.
Thanksgiving last year, I spent most of the day riding in an M1151 escorting a convoy of MREs and Water halfway across southern Iraq.
My issue is there's a thread created to attack people for petitioning their employer for better working conditions.
you did? huh.
Who in their right mind goes shopping at midnight? Was there really public demand for this apparent trend? It seems to me that the whole "Black Friday" thing is stirred up by retailers to drag even more money out of the ignorant.
oops, you are correct. my bad, it was the year before last. thanksgiving '09 not TG '10
Do firemen, police officers, doctors, airport workers and anyone else whose job does not stop just because its the holidays get double or triple time or a an extra bonus?
Yes.
........
were you union?
other than when I was teaching, I have never been union and (with the exception of military) I have usually been paid double for working holidays and if the holiday happened to fall on a weekend, I got triple.
but, of course, I haven't worked minimum wage, low skill, low education, low training jobs since I was in High School
well, i was asking zyph, but why do you find it necessary to look down your nose at retail workers? everybody can't be like you, oscar. people should be treated with respect, extra pay should be granted for holidays, period. right now, employers hold employees hostage.
I completely reject that claim.
the last minimum-wage increase cost the restaurant industry more than 146,000 jobs, and restaurant owners put off plans to hire an additional 106,000 employees
Minimum Wage Increase Impact?
other than when I was teaching, I have never been union and (with the exception of military) I have usually been paid double for working holidays and if the holiday happened to fall on a weekend, I got triple.
I wasn't referring to an increase in the minimum wage.
In any event, there are plenty of examples of wages increasing without job loss. Otherwise, wages would never increase, would they?
Of course there are, like when the economy is good and the job markets are tight.
So you were wrong when you said "Businesses always cut back when they are forced to pay low skilled workers more money."?
Sorry, yes my thoughts were not complete. I was thinking about our current situation which is really what is relevant here. But my point was correct. If Target employee's wished to form a union and strike over this for higher wages, some of them are going to be out of a job.
that would be ok....call me old fashioned, but i believe all but the most essential of services should be shut down on easter, thanksgiving, christmas, and new years day....but, if you insist on staying open , incentives would probably draw enough interest to cover your workforce needs.
Suppose Wal-Mart unionized first. The largest civilian employer now has union employees. Is it really going to lay off thousands? Because it has to pay them a little bit more? They are much more likely to absorb the cost and keep on doing what they do, which is sell alot of stuff and make money on it..
The stores were shut down on Thanksgiving. They opened at midnight the day AFTER which is NOT a holiday.
which is what I have been saying the whole thread. WTF is the big deal about having to work on the day after thanksgiving?
