GOVERNMENT PAYS FOR IT!
More control = less freedom
More control = less freedom
This would be a separate debate ..why are there poor people .. ??I live in the so called "Ghetto" people are poor for a reason! They make themselves poor by getting pregnant, smoking dope, selling dope. I mean come on there are always going to be the poor and the rich nothing can change that. The only way to help people is to cut them off and let them make there way in life on there own. * survival of the fittest.

The reasons you give are caused by poverty; but intolerance, hatred, fear cause the poverty.....and some people are not strong enough to overcome this...
Do you think these people, or any people wish to live as they do ??
Has anyone , in the history of man, ever bothered to ask this question, AND listened to the answer ???
Survival of the fittest ... pertains primarily to animals, not humans....of course, there is an effect...
Oh Jesus ****ing Christ.
Lets not blame the poor people because they are poor, lets vilanize everyone else for them getting poor instead.
It IS possible to overcome being poor, you have to want it. Nobody is going to give it to you, and taking it (robbery) doesn't work so well. So much for the rappers attitude.
Did we, or did we not use slave labor ?
Did we or did we not steal the land from the natives ?
Do we or do we not practice racism and intolerance toward dark skinned minorities ?
I know that we did....
I think the "poor people" problem can be solved, but it will take thinking and re-thinking...and an attitude change...
Yep, I was poor once. In a sense I still am even if im not as poor as someone who can't afford a cheap 50 dollar phone. I made myself NOT poor by making the right choices at that pivotal time in everyones life that decides how the rest of their life will turn out. 18 years old.Again ...Have you even been poor ?
Yes. Yes it is. I have seen a poor black kid from a poor neighborhood get accepted into Harvard University because he worked hard and stayed out of trouble, because he had goals in life. Good parenting helps, but its even possible without good parenting as long as the individual is ambitious.Villanizing others is not so off the mark as you may think.
Yes, we did, over 150 years ago. So what?Did we, or did we not use slave labor ?
Yes, we did, nearly 400 years ago. So what?Did we or did we not steal the land from the natives ?
No. Check the Office of the President of the United States of America.Do we or do we not practice racism and intolerance toward dark skinned minorities ?
Did yes, Do? No.I know that we did....
Yes, its called giving people a reason to be ambitious and removing this entitlement mentality. That will only happen by removing entitlement programs such as this one.I think the "poor people" problem can be solved, but it will take thinking and re-thinking...and an attitude change...
:roflMaybe you did, but I had nothing to do with any of that ****. See, I'm under 200 years old.
Hillarious. I went into a woman's home who lived in public housing assistance (projects) one time and she had a 40 inch flat screen and her vehicle was the 2007 Buick parked out front. She also had more decorations and fancy wall displayed china stuff Ive seen in any wealthy persons home, even if it did look tacky. And even if you want to argue that the sins of the father are passed down seven generations, my ancestors didn't get to this country until the 1910's, where they were (coincidentally) discriminated against and actually poor, not this "40 inch flat screen and two cars-poor" that you see nowadays.
Well said sir, well said.Yes, because no other ethnic/cultural/social group ever made something of themselves without the other groups stopping and thinking of how best to integrate them into society and change their own attitudes.
Is this something the government should be subsidizing? Is this something our tax dollars should go to?
Will people take advantage of this like some do every other government program?

I always used to think this was the case when I was younger. Then, when you're at school, all your professors tell you about how that's just a myth created by the Republicans, how poor people actually don't live like that, how it's a stereotype borne out of prejudice, etc. You hear that enough and you actually start to believe it.
Then you get out into the real world and work at a job that brings you into contact with these actual people and gives you an absolute and perfect inventory of their income, bank statements, properties, expenditures, cars, etc. And lo and behold, you find out that the vast majority of them spend their money on the dumbest ****.
I can't tell you how many deadbeat dads I've heard complain about how they can't make their $125/week child support, yet they
1) Own houses in FL/AZ,
2) Earn >$60k year under the table, or
3) Have >2 cars that cost more than $25k
It's ****ing insane.

The only example that I can think of, in which government might be justified in providing cell phones is in the case of victims of domestic violence, with a substantial risk of ongoing harm, who might need access to a phone for emergency services. And the phone should call the police and no one else.
