Just curious if parents should be held accountable when their kids do something stupid that causes injury or fatality to others?
It depends heavily on the circumstances.
Depends upon the age of the kid and the likely cupability of the parents. Mens rea operates differently for children.
It all depends on the age of the child and on the situation. If you're asking about a 17-year old and an action done outside of the view and control of the parent, probably not. If it's a 5-year old and done while the parent is present, absolutely.
What about Columbine? Those two boys planned that action in the homes of one for sure and maybe both and it was months, not a few days. IMO, those parents should be held accountable as they knew those boys were not right. it was not Kmart's or Charleton Heston's fault
I'd say the parents should have been held accountable for not acting when they knew there was something going on, but not held directly accountable for the Columbine shooting.

Agreed, that was pure negligence on their part
I know of no shooting in our past that would compel me to blame the parents to such a degree that I would hold them accountable.
I can't even fathom such a hypothetical that isn't completely over the top.

Would really depend, I would say that in most cases....no they shouldn't.
The Columbine parents deserved something, those boys planned that in their home for months even stock piling weapons with deliveries made to the home. No way that goes on with a good parent.
And why is that? because it would require them to be parents?
That's assumption, you'd have to prove in a court of law that they knew what was going on.
You would have to an idiot to not know what your kids are planning in your house for months. Stupdity is not a defense
Interesting.....I'd say the parents should have been held accountable for not acting when they knew there was something going on, but not held directly accountable for the Columbine shooting.
Meh, if you can prove it in a court of law, then by all means. But in general I'd likely not hold parents criminally responsible for the actions of their kids.
Interesting.....
True, of course, that the parents cannot be around all the time.....and parenting is never 100%.
Then society must help.....and does NOT by allowing guns to be too easy to acquire.....And if that works not, then at least we have tried..
Today, we are not trying hard enough...
