It's against the law for government to violate freedom of speech.

If you're telling private citizens or entities that they have to carry or platform speech, you're denying them their own freedom.
I can see what you're saying, but it seems very manipulative to me for the largest search engine on the world, in a culture where we say "Google it" to mean look it up on the Internet, to be manipulating the masses this way. It leads to situations like Elon Musk buying Twitter. It turns into a political war. I just want to learn and if folks are curious about flat earth or some kookie science, they should be able to read about it. I think search engines should be considered utilities like telephones and Facebook messenger. No censorship.

Yes. They are private platforms and are not subject to the 1st amendment.

What kinda commie tries to tell businesses how they can conduct their own, legal, affairs?
Should we tell the government to allow telephone companies to censor our phone calls?

Very bad example. Phone calls are private and protected by law. Social media posts are not.

Google has been censoring and hiding results that they find politically or ideologically offensive.

YouTube has been de-monetizing content in the same way.

Is this acceptable? Should large, monopoly type companies like Google and YouTube be considered information highways that enable free communication of the masses? Freedom of the press?

What are folks thoughts on this?
If we believe them to be real monopolies, dangerous to the marketplace there are a series of laws under which the federal govt can sue to brake them up. There is this one https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sherman_Antitrust_Act. There is this one https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clayton_Antitrust_Act_of_1914. There is this one. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Trade_Commission_Act_of_1914 If those will not cover the specifics here, then Congress can pass something that will.

But your problem is that Congress has done nothing but undermine those laws, and underfund the federal agencies that enforce those provisions for decades, especially since 'Uncle Ronny' and his Cabinet decided that 'too big to threaten' was actually good for America!

What should be protected - phone calls or social media posts?
Search engines and video platforms should be neutral. No censorship. Folks use them as ways to share news, science and political opinions. It's like censoring the press.

Well they, and we, don't much care what you think about it.

You don't support the 1st Amendment and you have no idea what a monopoly is.

This poll sucks.

Wow how nice of you.

But yeah, freedom of speech is vital to an effective functioning country

That's why you've got the 1st Amendment and the government doesn't get to tell companies what they can publish.

Google doesn't publish anything. They provide a venue for already published items to be found.

Same with YouTube, they provide a platform for already created works to be displayed.

Zoom, for example, provides a platform for conversations to be had. It doesn't publish the Zoom conversations.

YouTube and Google both also post original material.

But regardless the 1st Amendment protects companies from the government tyranny over them that you're calling for.

And thank God for that.

But freedom of speech applies to government. It doesn't apply to companies like Google and youtube.

People keep explaining that to you.

I even posted the text of the first for you.

Youtube can ban everything but puppy videos if they want to.
