This is one of the oldest jobs in the world. ever since the days of the cave men, women have been selling their bodies for the sake of the men to 'have at it,' and then they keep the dividends for themselves. then, the fathers of these women were selling their daughters since i can think of, and that was all fine and good. hell, even in the bible they quote people as selling their daughters to other people - saying that the religion is against prostitution is a fail, as it clearly supports it as 'just the way it was.'

Then, there is the legal aspect of it - women getting into drugs and then selling their bodies for the sake of getting drugs. this is quite common for hookers, but then so is selling drugs themselves.

Personally, i think some women want to be hookers to look cool or impress their friends. this activity starts in lower school, where girls will get gifts from boys to be their girlfriends. i know at some schools girls get rings from their boy friends and wear all of them after school, seeing it as a status symbol or so. this is not out and out sex, but it leads to dating, and, we know during dates men spend money on their women, or, buy their women. this is similar to escorts, where escorts accompany men in exchange for money and then maybe sex for more money.

So, can we get rid of prostitution? i don't think so. can we tax prostitutes for the sake of welfare? yes, i think so. this activity is unbeatable, and, if we accept it we can make other people's lives better from it, yes?

Next time you buy some woman a bouquet of flowers, are you trying to buy sex?

I never understood the absurd notion of sanctioning something just because you can't eliminate it. Somehow, relativity eludes the defeatists.

I have never understood the absurd notion of banning something exchanged between two consenting adults based purely on a moral disapproval.

No, usually it is to buy forgiveness.

...

So she'll have sex with me again.

...

Never mind.

tax prostitutes for the sake of welfare? what does that even mean?

It means a tax on the business of sex.

And why do you assume that I'm invoking morality in this topic? Countries that already suffer from declining populations and an epidemic of STDs have no business facilitating sex even more.

I don't understand why the same activity is allowed for free just not if money is exchanging hands. That is the most absurd part about it and what proved that it is the moral objection that causes it to be illegal.

Refusing to illegitimatize a behavior and facilitating it are not the same thing. If the government was giving hookers tax credits you might have a point.

Don't forget supper.

Well.................In my case anyways. ;)

Jeez you got off cheap. I once lost my wedding ring at a ski resort. This after being warned by her that carrying it - it was our last day and I didn't want to leave it in our luggage with the concierge - while skiing was not my most brilliant idea ever.

Our rings were designed by my wife and we had them custom made. Some incredibly kind soul found it and turned it in to the lost and found who contacted me (I had previously left my name with them) when we got back home.

During the very very long drive home you have no idea what I had to promise the woman to get her to stop crying and stop wanting to kill me. Suffice to say I'd still be paying for it........

I feel somewhat qualified to speak on this subject, seeuns how I partook of the pleasures over many years.

That being so, I can tell you quite truthfully, there was ONLY ONE lady who was doing it to pay her college tuition. She was in San Diego, and was an actual student "working her way through college".

However, the other 99.999% were crack users. As soon as I paid them, they were dialing their phone to get that next rock.

Also, almost all of them were very nice ladies and did not look like the typical Hollywood stereotype. They looked like normal women you see every day.

There were also some I drive right past because they looked like they would slit your throat in 5 seconds, and not bat an eye. They had the street-hard look that I avoid.

Margie and Mary Jane were my favorites. Margie called me once, and asked if I wanted to go to the zoo. I said sure, and we just enjoyed a nice day.

Mary Jane ....well.....let's just say I find it funny some men pay thousands to others for what Mary Jane would do for $40.

Once a new girl ripped me off, and I told Margie about it, and she and a few other girls showed the new punk the error of her ways. Margie said when one person does customers bad, it makes it bad on everyone. The mood on the street gets mean, rather than fun and enjoyable.

Ever since the days of cave men. Really? Cave drawings? Thumb drives with photos?

I've met hundreds of non-druggie prostitutes over the years. Drug use is extremely common in street scenes, but street scenes are on the decline.

Geeeees.... I am happy that you got it back.

Decriminalizing a practice is a form of facilitating it. Besides, even the most staunch supporters of legalizing prostitution acknowledge that governmental regulation is paramount for keeping the industry safe. That, too, would be further facilitation.

Fair enough. I was improperly defining facilitate and was thinking more "encouraging" or "approving of." Decriminalization doesn't imply approval but to your point it does make it easier.

There are a lot of things wrong with encouraging prostitution. The ones that come to mind are unethical in religious contexts, like churches or mosques. But sex is dirty, and the law says we can punish people for being dirty unless they do it in missionary position, in wedlock.
