Jai Alai was once very popular in the U.S. with ten frontons. But now it's down to 2 in FL. Originally a popular sport in Latin countries, Jai Alai has seen better days.

A co-worker at a sales meeting at Trump's Doral club in Miami took an evening off & went to a nearby fronton. He called the sport Jolly Olly. He wasn't bright enough to come up with this himself.

I used to weekend in Tijuana when traveling to San Diego on business. There was a fronton on the main street. That city is filled with petty thieves so I avoided crowded places like that place.

Greyhound racing (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greyhound_racing) is also on the way out. There was said to be 2 dog tracks in WV. Animal rights people killed this 'sport.'

A man I used to represent in chemical sales worked for a Houston-area lawyer who owned a dog track. These places had a continuing problem finding adoptive homes for dogs who passed their peaks. But instead of adopting a retired greyhound, this man dropped $$$ to buy a whippet, a close relative of the greyhound (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whippet). My only thought was that there had to be something in his drinking water that led him to do this.

The stars at night are big and bright...

I have six retired greyhounds that regularly come to my place
With my acreage, and staff, we can actually have a place for them to run and have fun
Normally the aussies are the fastest ones in my groups, but they look like they are in neutral when compared to the greyhounds

they are beautiful animals

A neighbor had 2 but one passed. Beautiful animals.

A couple months ago at the VA hospital I met a guy who had a retired greyhound who was now a service dog. Super nice dog who had a room full of grizzled vets coming over and singsonging "whose a good girl" and such. He said she was trained by inmates at a prison, and that he was not able to leave home without her to keep him steady. He clearly absolutely loved and adored her.
