This is not a poll about whether you love Trump like he is your Savior or whether you hate Trump with passion.

Americans are stuck with Trumpism. Should he win the next election, it will be with you all for another decade (my guess). If he loses, it may fade by the next election cycle. Or not. Depending if Trump takes the loss poorly and decides to try his luck again in 2028.

Being stuck with Trumpism, there is a belief that "this too shall pass." Just like McCarthyism passed. Like Reaganism passed. Ok, just like Obamaism has passed (despite the comics on here who believe it is Obama running the White House, not Biden).

It has to pass eventually, though some might say it won't. That Trumpism will survive Trump and become a movement.

I have my guess. Trumpism will diminish only after Trump has passed away. Even detoothed, and aging out in Mar something or other, as long as he is breathing, there will be Trumpism. BUT, that is just my guess.

I am interested in YOUR guess.

If the recent thirty to hundred years is any guide, the GOP was just keep doubling down on the crazy and it will only stop once they lose power for a while. Even then, it will just boil up again a few generations later with some new demagogue as these people don't actually seem to be learning anything.

SO, never? Option 1.

It will just pop up under a new name and technically won't be Trumpism. Perhaps the great great great grandson of Father Coughlin can come back for the next round of fascism and they will just call it America First.

I suspect it will persist even after Trump loses or even dies. It has shown itself in various guises since Barry Goldwater’s unexpected success in the south with dog whistle appeals to “states’ rights” and economic libertarianism, to Nixon’s Southern strategy, to Reagan’s talks of Cadillac driving welfare queens, to Sarah Palin, to the Tea Party and birtherism.

This is unfortunately much more than just about Trump.

What you have to realize is that there is no "Trumpism". Just like there was no tea-party. There is no establishment GOP. It's the same game with a different package. It's merely the intersection of a fascination with celebrity dumpster fires, and the big "conservative" con. The same sorts of gullible people that fell in line behind the southern strategy, whom suddenly believed that the "socialism" that gave them rural electricity was now somehow different, when it meant they had to share prosperity with non-whites....they are the Trumpers of today. Many of these gullible people are delighted by someone that speaks with no filter, and can get away with it. It's happening all over the world right now. And always has been. Hucksterism in this country fell out of vogue with the national problems of the 1930's and 40's. Because it doesn't govern, it has no solutions: its a grift. It's a bait-and-switch. It works on fear and deception. It came roaring back in the 50's with McCarthyism, but died out as few were taking up the mantle, and sputtered in the 60's when the country could recognize Goldwater was a joke. But Johnson's naiveté on Viet Nam (and economic issues) opened the door, and the box has been opened ever since. Notice how Reagan won debates with one-liners. There was no there, there.

Republicans and talk radio have been calling half of the country evil, for decades. 1/6 was inevitable. It was going to happen in some form with or without a Trump.

BUT someone has to light the fuse, and someone did.

It's like asking "How long will racism, populism, nativism, anti-science, conspiracy theorism and anti-democracy last?" Trumpism may go away in time, but the elements that define it will be around forever.

The elements of, however, the movement called MAGA (or, as I prefer, Trumpism) may well die out after Trump is gone. What will be left is something that has existed for the last century - rightwing looniness.

Trumpism is really just rebranded Confederism.

its what it represents

America first
American citizens first
secure border
drain the swamp
stop paying for the worlds problems
less taxes

things like that resonate with many American's

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

In practice, the isolationism, bigotry, and xenophobia it represents are toxic for America’s long-term future.

Trumpism is not going anywhere.

His reactionary populism has a massive following. It is not new, but the former POTUS normalized such behavior.

disagree and that is a major separation between the two parties
Sure. We all have beliefs. But beliefs have consequences, which in practice can be gauged.

This will continue as long as politicians continue to act contrary to the benefit of the public.

Other: MAGA will morph as it always does since the America 1st party of the 30's-40's., JBS, Moral majority, Teabaggers etc. Sometimes more covert, sometimes more overt. but always simmering.
A poll without other ain't a serious poll, IMO. 😇

Trumpism will die with Trump because it is a cult of personality. His followers will then slink back to following non political crass celebrities on the internet and TV and falling for the latest conspiracy theories.

As long as racism and bigotry exist, Trumpism as a totem for white-nationalists will remain for quite some time but probably under a different name.
