This is going to make Republicans look pretty bad, but not deservedly so. True, in light of the Bush bailout of the banksters, it looks like the GOP is for Wall Street and against Main Street, but that is all on the surface. Many Republicans were genuinely pissed at Bush's bailout, and this is all I personally ask for. While benefits are being cut for those on the bottom rung, benefits must also be cut for those at the top. That would, IMHO, be fair. We must find a way to reduce the deficit, and some ways to cut it are going to be painful. The only way to make it fair is to spread the pain, making sure that those at the top also suffer. Without that, then the Liberals' accusation of "class warfare" is absolutely true.
I will, at this time, take a wait and see attitude, but at this point, I am not against cutting out unemployment extensions. After all, something is seriously wrong if someone cannot find a job in 6 months. It might not be the job he wants, but damn it, it's a job, and it's a tough economy right now, so just take what is available.
Finally, one more note - In this economy, employers who hire illegal aliens over jobless American citizens need to be thrown in jail. Period.
