It looks like Congressman Norm Dicks, Democrat, will take Murtha's position as defense spending subcommitte chairman...He is from my district here in Washington State......Dicks is a fiscal Conservative and a social liberal whom I have voted for the last 30 years...He is a good man when it comes to taking care of the military and although I don't agree with him on social issues I am happy to see him get this position...........He will not betray our military like Murtha did in the last 6 years...

WASHINGTON — The death of the chairman of the House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee is likely to elevate U.S. Rep. Norm Dicks, D-Belfair, into his place.
U.S. Rep. Jack Murtha, D-Penn., died Monday of complications after gallbladder surgery. He was 77. The Marine veteran who became a critic of the Iraq War was for two decades the ranking House Democrat on the defense appropriations panel.
George Behan, chief of staff to Dicks, said he expects the Belfair congressman will become chairman of the powerful defense spending subcommittee. “The committee has to vote, but that will be the case,” Behan said.
