It was clemency...Not a pardon

no pardon? do you have a link on that? does it depend on the definition of pardon?
In case there are retards out there;
pardon: 1. kind indulgence, as in forgiveness of an offense or discourtesy or in tolerance of a distraction or inconvenience: I beg your pardon, but which way is Spruce Street?
2. Law. a. a release from the penalty of an offense; a remission of penalty, as by a governor.
b. the document by which such remission is declared.
3. forgiveness of a serious offense or offender.
commute: 1. to change (a prison sentence or other penalty) to a less severe one: The death sentence was commuted to life imprisonment.
2. to exchange for another or for something else; give and take reciprocally; interchange.
3. to change: to commute base metal into gold.
4. to change (one kind of payment) into or for another, as by substitution.
To reduce from over a 100 to 47 years for a crime of a 16 year old is not unreasonable except for hypocrites who haven't taken the time to find the facts.
You can quibble about the semantics, but out is out.....
Big difference.
If Governor Huckabee had wanted Clemmons out of prison he could've just pardoned him and been done with it.
No one could stop him.
Instead Governor Huckabee reduced his sentence to 47 making him eligible for parole.
The five members of the parole board voted unaminously to recommend his release. Plus the trial judge agreed with that vote.
Without the parole board recommendation, no one in his right mind believes that Clemmons would've been released from prison.
And in regards to Dumond, there has never been any evidence that Governor Huckabee took any actual actions to cause his release.
Case closed.
It appears that your being offended is misplaced. Huchabee was obviously acting upon the information and advice he had at the time. Do you really believe any governor would release someone expect to kill cops or anyone else upon release? Of course there was Dukakis.
He got the ball rolling in both cases enabling their eventual releases....
Case reopened.....:2razz:
Actually, Governor Jim Guy Tucker reduced Dumonds way excessive sentence years before Governor Huckabee was involved in any way.
I'll put it to you this way.
How long should Clemmons have served in prison when he never harmed anyone in commission of a crime?
Be honest and not this "habitual criminals should be locked up for life BS".
The man was a five time CONVICTED felon, and my being offended is misplaced? Who wouldn't be offended by this? He did it on the word of a man saying he found JEUSE. He gave a clemency to a man that thought he was JEUSE.
He did "CLAIM HE FOUND JESUSE"Except that is NOT TRUE.
1) Clemmons never claimed to have found Jesus. He mentioned being raised in a Christian family but never made any claim in his letter of being a Christian or turning to Jesus in prison.
2) Clemmons didn't claim to be Jesus or some kind of God until YEARS later. Well after he left Arkansas.
Look, everyone here feels for the four police officers murdered.
And everyone should be honest and admit that Governor Mike Huckabee never would've reduced the mans sentence if he believed the man would murder people regardless of how religous he claimed he had become.
He did "CLAIM HE FOUND JESUSE"
Alleged Cop-Killer Still on the Loose - CBS News
Quite trying to pass the buck any would think this man would have killed people is an idtio are a partisan hack. Six people have died because of Mike Huckabee.
You can quibble about the semantics, but out is out.....
Your link doesn't say that.
In any case there is no evidence he made those kinds of claims WHILE IN PRISON IN ARKANSAS.
Goodness.
People are as bad as the Bush haters sometimes.
And this is why Huckabee commuted the sentence of a killer, right?Huckabee should advocate for the The Christian Amendment that has been defeated so many times.
The Christian Amendment
We, the people of the United States, humbly acknowledging Almighty God as the source of all authority and power in civil government, the Lord Jesus Christ as the Ruler among the nations, His revealed will as the supreme law of the land, in order to constitute a Christian government, and in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquillity, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the inalienable rights and the blessings of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness to ourselves and our posterity, and all the people, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

What was he convicted of prior to Huckabee's action?I am sorry you can't read, it so totally makes a difference that Huckabee terminated the guy's 90 year sentence by clemency rather than a pardon. [/ end of Major sarcasm]
I'd bet you watch fox news too they have been covering his ass 24/7 on this. Fair and balance my ass! Even the red states, are saying this is his willy Hurton. I won't violate criminals in prison were they belong, and I am a democrat. Your just as bad as Huckabee blame the Justice system when it was his clemency that let this person out. He took a gun to school, he committed burglaries, among other things. I find funny that you think 95 years was to much for the thug. "When you do the math on all of them, it all comes to 108 years,"
Once again.
The Arkansas Times is not credible and hasn't been for 20 years. Take it from someone who actually lives here.
And no evidence has ever been provided that Gov. Huckabee secretly tried to influence the parole board to release Wayne Dumond.
How hard is this for you people to understand?
What was he convicted of prior to Huckabee's action?
Yeah, and none of those point to murder. But if you want to criticize Huckabee for having mercy on a guy he thought was being unfairly punished because he's black, you go right ahead. He was convicted of robberies, burglaries, thefts, and taking a gun to school, among other crimes.
It leads up to about 108 years, he was supposed to be in jail, but he only got 60 years. You do the crime, you do the time that is my motto.
What in the hell does Wayne Dumond have to do with Maurice Clemmons anyway?
And this is why Huckabee commuted the sentence of a killer, right?
Yeah, and none of those point to murder. But if you want to criticize Huckabee for having mercy on a guy he thought was being unfairly punished because he's black, you go right ahead.
:rofl You really think he was being unfairly punished because he black. The was Arkansan law . It wasn't because he was black, so your bring the race card into this. Figures, that Huckabee would do this. It has nothing to do with race he was CONVICTED FELON. He was given those at 17 I believe, to think be that young and having that kind of rap sheet wouldn't lead him down to this is a morn or a hack. This man was given a 95 year sentence at such a young age should have given Huckabee grave doubt in letting him out.
And yet the trial judge agreed with him being paroled.
