What I can't understand... is how the EU politicians could not figure out this would happen... and at a minimum, not planned for an absolute worst case scenario due to their open border policy.

This is one HUGE role of governments... national security... yet the EU was caught with their pants down, despite years of indicators of boatloads of people showing up along the EU coasts.

Update: In yesterday's poll (Yougov) the Swedish Democrats are now the largest party with over 28%, 2% ahead of the Socialists and 3% ahead of the Moderates, the least distant thing that Sweden has to a conservative party.

Dearborn, Mi. has one of the largest Arab populations of a city outside of the Middle East and Hamtramck, Mi is first Muslim majority city council, and both of these cities border Detroit. I believe they (Swedes, Germans, Dutch, Belch) thought their lifestyles and belief systems to be so superior to the Islamic culture that their enlightened culture would naturally prevail.

The problem is that the western democracies don't really have a belief system anymore which reflects positively on their societies. They really don't stand for anything. They understand only how to live in a democracy but not how to defend it. That has made them very vulnerable to a takeover, and that's just what's happening.

It may take the majority a few more years to realize it. Perhaps the non-European democracies can recognize this in time, though so far it seems unlikely.
