Right. So people should stop going around saying numbers like "35-40 million."
We don't know how many (though there are plenty of estimates out there) but we do know that not everyone who doesn't have health insurance today lacks it because they can't afford to pay any of the premiums.
You're right... could be 60 million. After all, the average income in the U.S. in 2007 was a bit over $50,000. That means most of the country could qualify for insurance subsidies.
You are also right that many who don't have insurance are able to pay for it. Under the health care reform bill though, they will get federal subsidies whether then actually need them or not. A family of four making $88,000. should be able to afford their own insurance premiums.
