    The why'd he resign?

Why was he condemned by his superiors?

All the cops in question have to do is say the key phrase...."...I was in fear of my life". And somehow that usually justifies any action taken after that.

Btw, Lutherf admitted the cop was "heavy handed", he just can't bring himself to call for reprimand.
    re: keep the pressure on

    Absolutely!

There already are citizen's groups dedicated to filming the police, which is now easy to do with everyone having a videotaping cell camera.

And more & more bystanders & passersby are stopping & filming random police action.

Today, whenever an officer comes into contact with a citizen, they are now cognizant their action may be on camera, perhaps even surreptitiously.

This is good for everyone, including the officers - we have reached the point of becoming a transparent society with all the good & not so good that entails. In terms of police malfeasance, it's definitely good IMO.

I've never seen affluent kids doing it in my neighborhood.

There's some truth to that, I believe.

But in my over half a century on this earth, I do believe I've seen a militarization of our police, along with an erosion of our constitutional rights.

Irrespective of whether these abuses are increasing or not, the good news is: thanks to the technology every good citizen now has in his pocket, we now have evidence leading to the weeding-out of the bad eggs.

    That's a very good thing!

I mean all the kids who need to go back to their own part of town.

If I were renting an apartment in that place, and thugs from south Dallas kept showing up, I would not renew my lease, and I'm sure many share that mentality or else they would not live in McKinney. Therefore the property values go down. Is that fair to the owner of the building...now his investment is worth less because some punks wanted to use his pool that he built.

Your priorities are all mixed up.

If these kids want to spend time in a place like McKinney, they need to get jobs and start saving up

But not if the good citizens keep filming, and the media keeps carrying the stories.

I do admit that most departments regs & procedures are stacked against the citizens, but little-by-little the pendulum can swing back back a bit. I suspect that's already happening - no departments want the political heat, loss of public confidence, and eventual financial loss that occurs when these videos surface.

Remember, the SC copper was just indicted on Murder - that's a big deal. You can be sure his fellow officers are thinking a little harder about what circumstances are appropriate to pull the trigger. And thinking a bit more conservatively, I'm sure ....

I'd say because he didn't maintain control of the situation. Cop did go a bit Rambo when it wasn't really necessary. Notice the other cops did not act like this guy.

Gee, that sure is a change of tune from the bone-headed "Cop did his job" you posted earlier

Arriving to break up the fight and disperse the trespassers--doing his job. Losing his cool and acting like a nut--not so much.
