I've avoided this section of the forum, for obvious reasons  . I have my own way to look at this issue, and no amount of arguing is going to change that.

My concern, however, is this. Do you think if Zimmerman is found not guilty, will there be a riot, like with the Rodney King verdict? This is such an explosive issue - if he walks, I'm concerned that it will get ugly. I have to think that this is also in the backs of the minds of potential jurors, the Judge and the attorneys. I wouldn't want to be in their shoes.

Isn't that unfortunate? I mean that we even think that way? I hope the jury will be sequestered. In this kind of trial, it's impossible not to be influenced by talking heads who tell us what to think.

To the bolded: Yes, I do. I think it's one of the reasons why there has been so much kid glove handling of this case, and I think it's a damn shame.

I do think the jury will be sequestered, which will help them. Won't help the rioting if Zimmerman is acquitted, though. :(

Seminole County, Florida, is 78% white.

I think there is a huge possibility since the race card is being played heavily in this case. Maybe not to the extent of the King ones but of course that was LA not Seminole County as Superfly pointed out.

Your concern is reasonable.

If riots, chaos, tumult, etc happen, I PLACE THE BLAME SQUARELY ON THE HEADS OF THOSE WHO USED RACE AS A POLITICAL WEAPON.

It is possible, but I doubt it. And any rioting would likely be minimal and easily contained. The cases just aren't the same. Keep in mind, with the King case there was actually video of him being beat that the whole world saw. And the people doing the beating were law enforcement officers. Zimmerman is just a private citizen.

Very true, with the over-publicity of this case, I'm not sure it is possible even for a fair trial.

They are still questioning the jury, David. I was wondering the same thing - how are they going to find someone who hasn't heard of this?

Marches, speeches, no riots.

Most of us who grew up in and around Los Angeles have had a dislike and some even a hatred for LAPD spanning generations. Unprovoked shootings, unprovoked beatings, planting of false evidence, framing of suspects, stealing and dealing narcotics, bank robbery, perjury, and the covering up of evidence of these activities (Rampart scandal). LAPD in the 1990's were some of the worst in history.

If you take a step back and look past the skin color of Rodney King and Trayvon Martin, you will notice these two cases are nothing alike. Sanford is not Los Angeles in the 1990's.

May god have mercy on your soul.

Many Americans do not watch or read the news. Stop being so dramatic.

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

I can believe that seeing as how we elected Obama twice. Uninformed and ignorant.

Any excuse to loot will do. It will be a sad day but one of the reasons, we have the Guard is to protect citizens from Civil Disorder AND an armed citizenzy. If it were Russia with a minority looting and burning the city, they would be shot on sight. The majority has all the high cards. Chips will fall where they may. Many shop and house owners will form their own self defense units, too.
We have constant threats of looting and burning, Perhaps it is time for the minority to see what little power they really have.
All citizens are expected to obey the law of the land.

I think that’s a pretty valid concern. Honestly, I’ve wondered that myself. I have no doubt that if he’s acquitted there will be protesters (people have gotten far too involved in this case for that not to happen) but it’s hard to say how violent they might get.

As violent as the Government lets them be.

Yup, I believe there will be, but I'm not sure how large scale it will be.

I asked this a few months ago and it seemed like everyone said riots, nooo. Now people are not so sure. However based on the inability of Zimmerman to use pertinent evidence (my opine) I think the fix is in against him anyway and he's headed for 20 years of life behind bars.
